A recurring these of yesterdays talks on the Diabetes Summit, was about Gluten / Diabetes connection and by extension, intestinal causes of Diabetes.

Also, I did not realize that other glands such as thyroid and adrenal, can also have such a big impact on diabetes.

But the main theme was Carbohydrates and how low carb diets are a must to control Diabetes and perhaps even eliminate the Diabetic drug roller coaster.......

Has anyone else been listening to these talks?

I was up most of the night listening to yesterday's talks at the Diabetes Summit 2015. I forgot about it earlier in the day, and the talks are only available on line for 24 hours so I had only a few hours to listen.....

Boy am I tired emoticon this morning. I was going to tune in for todays talks, but I think I need a nap first....

Today's subject is mostly about low carb diets for diebetics, so I really want to listen. I hope it won't mean I will be up all night tonight again....

I am listening to "The Diabetes Summit 2015" right now. It started yesterday but I was not able to tune in. Luckily, I am able to access some of yesterday's talks today but there are also some presentations today that I also want to listen to..... So it could be a long day on the computer.....

Has anyone else signed up for this Summit? If so, what do you think?

Because I have lived in apartments for the past 45 (or so) years I have not been able to have gardens. So this little indoor tabletop garden should be good for me. I can hardly wait.....

oh yummy herbs and tomatoes! Let us know how that goes! I really have to get my garden started. The chard came back so that's one thing I won't have to worry about! I do want to plant my lettuces, spinach and beets, maybe I'll do some tomatoes too. Other than that, I just don't know.

BIL took me to Safeway this morning but their water dispenser was out of service. So we picked up my laundry and went to Sis's and I got my laundry all done for another couple of weeks. Oh, those stairs are so hard to climb..... Her washer and dryer are in the basement. It is hard for her to climb stairs as well because she has MS.... At some point in the afternoon, BIL had to run over to one of the stores while he was out working, so he also picked up some tomatoes and cucumbers that were on sale. Great ! I can have fresh veggies again.

After supper when BIL was driving me back to my place, we stopped at the Safeway store closest to where they live so I got my water and I will have lots to drink for another week....

Yesterday, I finally got my parcel from AeroGarden and now to get the table moved to where I need to set it up. I thought I knew where it would be going, but when i read the directions and care guide, I realized I could not leave the table in front of the window because of the baseboard heaters that run the length of the room...... Because I was not home today to do it, I will have to get it all set up tomorrow so I can get my herbs planted. For the first time,m I am also going to try cherry tomatoes and leaf lettuce which can be grown in the AeroGarden. Here is hoping it all grows great and tastes even better.....

I wasn't feeling good lastnight so I didn't want my blood sugar to drop lastnight so I didn't take my night time bolus insulin and still woke up with a FBS of 5,2

Hello all,
So, I tried to increase my carbs at lunch and dinner for a couple of days. One night I ate a whole english muffin, and my blood sugar rocketed above 160! In the past a half hasn't significantly impacted my measurement. The thing I'm wondering is if some people just can't have much grain, like their body is hyper sensitive to that particular source of carbs? Maybe I should try fruit or a bit more starchy veggies?
I'm finding myself very resistant to this 'experiment' the nutritionist suggested, because I get so freaked when my BS goes above 140. Mostly I'm just being a cry baby tonight. Thanks for reading.

I love a small piece of fruit and either some nuts or a bit of cheese. I love prunes for their digestive health benefits but strawberries or plums are my favs, with nectarines a close second (or third) I LOVE nuts, either cashew or peanuts but I have to really watch that I don't overeat them....

Sometimes I will have a piece of celery with some peanut butter or I might have a boiled egg (deviled egg = yummy).

I used to enjoy Stone Wheat Thins crackers or a small pan bun with cheese, but I am reducing wheat so I no longer have those.

I am afraid I am not very adventurous when it comes to my snacking.... Somewhere I have a list of snack choices but put it aside. I guess I better start looking for it to bring some variety back.....

Thanks LittleWind,
she started out suggesting three snacks and three meals, I sleep better if I don't eat for three hours before bed and I dont really have enough time after work to fit in a third snack, so we agreed I'll just have two 15 carb snacks as long as I get the increase worked out for lunch and dinner.
no specific snack ideas, i told her I usually have crackers or veg and cheese or a nice piece of fruit with a few nuts. What are your favorite snacks, if they're part of your plan?

Hello All,
Glad to hear that Spring is arriving for you LittleWinds, it does make it so much easier to get out the door for our walks, doesn't it? The dietician suggested I should have a short walk,15 minutes, after each main meal.
Yes, I finally got to see a nutritionist! She liked what I've been doing so far and suggested that I try to up my carbs to 45g for lunch and dinner. I'm to test 2 hours after each meal to see if this is too much for my system. I just got home and had lunch, I had to add an orange to get my carbs up to 33...and have to come up with more! Maybe some crackers...
I'll report my BS in that thread in 2 hours

I'm loving our little "warm wave" here. Snow is actually melting. Yesterday when I looked out the window, I thought it had been raining, but I guess it was just all the melted snow wetting down the sidewalks and street....

The exterminator is coming today to spray the public areas of the building. They won't be coming into my apartment, though..... I guess this may become a regular thing now. They don't want to let the bed bugs population grow - there were a couple of apartments in the building that were so badly infested they had to throw out all of their furniture..... and at least one unit where they are still coming in to spray in the unit.... I don't know why the pests are still hanging around in there.

I signed up for Facebook on the weekend. I was almost in tears because I I got stuck on one page and could not get out of it. I had to phone my sister and she had to walk me through it but even she couldn't figure out what was going on. We ended up getting her daughter to help us.... It is not easy when you can't see very well. I decided to join because my nephew and his wife are expecting twin girls in June and with the older girl they posted a lot of pictures there and I missed a lot because I didn't have Facebook...... So this time I will be able to see them as they grow..... Also, another nephew is getting married so I will be able to see their wedding pictures now as well..... I am slowly learning my way, but I still have a lot to learn, such as posting and accessing links, etc.

Hi everyone.

I am doing ok. I am axiously awaiting spring and for all the snow the melt off the sidewalks so I can get out walking again. I may only be able to go to the end of the block and back at first, as I have to build up my strength again. It is horrible when one has a fall that puts them out of commission for several months.....

Days are already longer, and we change clocks ahead on Sunday (I think I may sleep through much of church that day....) but it all means that Spring IS comming ! emoticon

Yeah Babygirl for successful restaurant navigation! My brother and I went out Sunday - he had pancakes, extra bacon and a giant glass of milk. I had an egg white omlete and fruit with black coffee. Oh and I snitched a bite of bacon LOL!

It makes sense LittleWind, the high carbs making you hungry, I've heard that sugar (face it simple carbs are only a step away) is an appetite stimulant.

How did your anniversary dinner go? Did you check online for menu options before you went or were you able to find something suitable once you got there?

I am sorry that you are hungry all the time. Did you up your carbs as you said? Has that helped? Have you been to see a Diabetes Nutritionist? She may be able to give you some ideas.....

I find when I have a carb heavy meal, I get hungry within a couple of hours. (And as much as I love fish and chips = or spaghetti, or..... , they are carb heavy meals and I am always hungry an hour later) I do find adding protein and fats helps me. On the other hand, I could have just a steak and salad and find it filling and will hold me over until my next meal.

The best thing to do is to find a meal that satisfies you and then test your blood glucose so you know how it affects you. Being hungry is NOT a good thing because people tend to stray from their eating plans. But too much carb is also NOT a good thing because carbs have a direct affect on the blood glucose levels.....

If you have not been to see a Diabetes Nutritionist, maybe you could ask your doctor for a referral. I don't always agree with everything they say, but they can give a lot of valuable insight in trying to design an appropriate meal plan. Good luck.

Going out for my anniversary dinner tonight with my boyfriend :D My blood sugar was 6.9 before lunch and will check blood before dinner and will do my insulin also so. Keep you all posted what I had for dinner and how it goes and what my blood sugar is after dinner before bed ok :D

FBS was 4.9/88.2 this morning and my blood sugar was 10.0/ last night and I gave myself 80 bolus bedtime insulin units to get that number this moring. Lowered it 5 points.

Next weekend is my anniversary with my boyfriend and we are going to a Steakhouse called The Keg and as a diabetic with slightly high blood pressure and keeping the calories low with the meal what do you guys recommend getting on the menu there? Any suggestions? Id love to know

Do any of my fellow diabetics like Starbucks coffees? What do you get there coffeewise? Whats the best coffee to get there for a diabetic?

Hey everyone its been a while but things are good. I am still working part time at a resteraunt and doing good with keeping a check on my blood sugars and insulin. Nothing has really made my sugars run low or high and keeping active at work has been helping keep my weight at bay and down so that's good. Keep you all posted :D

Yesterday was a disaster for me eating wise.I have to go back to 45 carbs per meal and 15 per snack. Trouble is I am always hungry any suggestions???

NEVER GIVE UP!

I was proud of myself on Friday. Fasting BS was 118. Reading at lunch was 106. Had Smsrt One Chicken Fettuvine for lunch. Made some Tacos for dinner. Bedtime bs 225. Fasting bs was 135 next morning But the thing I'm most proud of is that I didnt buy my usual I ususlly buy some breaded.chicken tenders from this cafe in my bldg for lunch and then go home and order a pizza on Fridays. If i can cut back on these two my bs will get lower.
