I know I am late to day 6, but I have a real problem with this one.

I am not willing to ask someone else to do something I would not be willing to do and I know I would be a terrible coach, so am not willing to be one for anyone else.

That being said, I will just use this group as my coach. I have set a calendar reminder to check in every Saturday when I should have time to write something up.

Like many of you I will get lots of support from this team and from fellow Sparkers but I can see the advantages to having a personal diet coach. I thought about asking my hubby to be my diet coach. He is very supportive and is on Spark also. Although I already have my doctor, my husband, my Mom and my two girls in my cheerleading squad I'd really like to add to my support system. I have reached out to someone who is looking for a diet coach also so I'll see where that goes.

I started a coaching class in January that will continue through May. And I hope there will be a summer session I can join as well. This class is not Beck based, but is a lifestyle/weight loss coaching class and it seems to fit well with Beck (so far). I am also blogging and doing a journal here on SP to reinforce what I am doing.

I enjoyed reading the diet coach ideas and approaches here!

I use this team and the various threads as my diet coach. I have a reminder set to check in every Saturday.

My wife is my primary diet coach. We've been married for 35 years and she has maintain her physique throughout that time. She's never been on a diet and she's very adept in giving me advice and "constructive" criticism. Additionally, I use SparkPeople, including the people in this group to give me motivation and encouragement.

Day Six - Find a Diet Coach

Without a doubt, the BEST Coach I have had on this weight loss journey is Spark People. The support and resources are phenomenal and they are there for you 24/7 giving encouragement. As a member of Weight Watchers I felt that the support given by leaders was pretty textbook. My sister (who I could call on a moments notice) also struggles with her weight however when she gets "off plan" I find that it is easier for me to justify doing the same. I am a premium member of Spark People which also includes Spark Coach and I get a lot of motivation and support from teams and Spark Friends.

On my first Beck round in Oct 2016, I asked an experienced Beckster whose blogs I followed and enjoyed if she would be my Beck coach and she agreed. She was awesome. We have different styles of finding support on Spark. she blogged daily and got her support from comments on her blog and she had a personal Beck coach who commented every day besides her regular blog followers and a half a dozen Becksters who also commented on her blog. She had a blog community. I prefer to get my Spark support from supporting specific teams and team members. She asked me how she could support me as a Beck trek coach and I said, I would send her, via a spark goodie, a weekly recap of my journey and she read it over and commented and encouraged me. Being available in case I had a specific scenario during the week that I needed help with was also part of the deal. And I did use that life line once, and it was great to have it. Sending weekly recaps was good for me both in working through the material and being accountable to someone and therefore staying on track, not falling too far behind, finishing the trek.

On this my second Beck round, I am going to use this thread and two other team threads to summarize what I am doing and get ideas and give support to others on these threads and trek.

Despite my hesitation to bother someone, I did ask for a coach this last fall and this has made all the difference for me. Especially at times when I was struggling, knowing that I was going to report weekly to her, kept me focused and prevented me from giving up. Upon reading Day 6, I realize that I should also ask for help when I find myself struggling during the week, to prevent binges.

Every time I read Beck I get some new help and insight, even when I thought I knew every chapter well.

In 2015 I read Beck Diet Solution alone, and my Diet Coach was SP community, friends who read my blogs. Plus I gave my Advantages Response Cards to my husband, explained him what I'm doing and asked him to remind me of these advantages if I struggle (it did not happen, but it was good to know he would support me, and I received many helpful comments on my blogs too.

In 2016 Oct/Nov I read BDS together with members of this team, and paired up with a Spark Friend, and I reported to her weekly on my weight, struggles and successes. I found personal support and accountability more powerful than "just" blogging, and we still exchange emails weekly.

If you prefer email communication over a real life coach, you may check out our team thread to pair up with someone and be diet coach for each other, and I think there are a few open offers!

I have a friend who lost 100 lbs with paleo and has struggled with maintenance. I sent her a message about spark people and the beck diet solution. She and I will be a support for one another. I'm not sure she is up and running here yet. This diet coach step is hard for me. I have been a weight watcher member this past year and was never able to get my head in the game. I was mad, ambivalent, and did not follow the program. The leader is the best leader I have ever had and is totally amazing. I have made some really warm and good friends out of this group. I have seen and heard 11 or 12 people hit their lifetime goal. What the... I guess I am really in need of the cognitive therapy piece and personal reflections. I have had some health issues which have been an obstacle and gotten me sidelined as well. When I started back on spark, which this is not my first rodeo either, I said to myself I would track calories and eat a healthy diet without points, to see if I can follow through. I have been thrilled to see if this program will work with any diet. I was just contemplating dropping my membership with weight watchers yesterday and today I'm reading about support groups. Not sure where I'm going with this, so I guess I'll just leave it here.

My hubby is a great support ... to any endeavor I take on. I don't want a watch dog ... but I do need moral support.

I would appreciate any support, motivation and kick in the pants y'all can offer.

I want to surround myself with like minded Sparkers.

I am going to use this team, Beck Diet Solution, as my diet coach.

1. I set an appointment reminder in SparkPeople to post a weigh-in and update every Saturday.
2. I will post daily in the Day 1-42 topic threads.

Today I read my list of reasons to lose weight, I ate everything slowly and mindfully while sitting down. I am giving myself credit for these things:
a. I got off the bus one stop early
b. I took the stairs
c. Opting not to eat the afternoon snack that I brought to work (too rushed). Instead tolerating hunger by waiting until after I arrived home, when I could eat my in a relaxed manner.
d. Tolerating evening hunger; going to bed feeling hungry

Two friends and I started working on Beck last Fall. Now we meet once a week for coffee and talk about our successes and challenges and text one another when we need support. When one of us misses the meetings, if she can, she calls in on Skype and joins the meeting. I can't tell you how wonderful this support has been for all 3 of us!

Congrats to you all who have found a coach! This one's a toughie for me. Can I defer this step for awhile? I can't think of anyone in RL I'm excited to have my back on this one, so I'm hoping that, with time, I'll get to know people who are working on the same things as I am, and we can, you know, do some reciprocal coaching, or something.

And here's a shout out to the other introvert(s) here who are working on this one!

in my two previous beck journeys my diet coach has been DH and my blogs and the support from others. i'm afraid i am guilty of not wanting to impose, not wanting to be turned down. DH is probably tired of hearing me talk about beck and my weight (maintenance) issues, but he is pretty good about it anyway.

I like the idea of a diet coach, someone to be accountable to and to confer with, that is motivating to me. I asked a Beck Sparkteam member who has a lot of experience, and am thankful the reply was yes. The plan is to email once a week with my scale and non-scale victories and ask for a perspective on some of the Beck directions.

Like Kriszta, I have not had a Beck coach. But, unlike Kriszta, I have not completed Beck Pink. I am, however, aware of CBT and have used it successfully for years. What interests me about the Beck Books is how CBT techniques are applied to weight loss.

I do not blog regularly. Much of my thinking, honestly, gets kept to myself. Part of that is time constraints and part of that is the fact that I'm introverted.

Reading the blogs of others, engaging as time permits and as I feel safe to do so has been incredibly helpful to me. I never imagined that engaging in the online community here at SparkPeople could be so supportive.

Honestly, still find it scary sometimes ... emoticon

For October Beck Reboot I asked a Spark Friend to be my diet coach, planning to report to her weekly and in case of trouble (that is, if I struggle with eating on plan or with completing my daily to do list tasks for whatever reason.

Also you, Beck team members and other Sparkers who read my blogs and leave comments are my supporters.
Sharing my progress (so far) and struggles (sooner or later) helps me to stay motivated, accountable and you can get support and advice from you all.

Being a diet coach for someone or for each other is good for both parties.
It is really discouraging when diet buddies don't show up - but that is the nature of this journey, many of us start but not everyone goes all the way.
I hope you will find a buddy here in the team or elsewhere on SP, or in Real Life!
If not, I can be your coach via weekly spark mail or email, plus you may post about your progress in several threads of our team: on the Beck Days, or daily check in thread or weekly Beck checks.

I didn't have a real coach, instead I posted SP blogs, in addition asked my DH to be my real life coach in case of emergency. But he didn't have to step in, the support and advice from my SP buddies was sufficient, and sharing my journey held me accountable.

This is a tricky one for me. As Judith Beck wrote in the sabotaging thoughts, i do not want to impose on others. Also, from previous experiences, when my diet buddies stopped showing up, i felt let down and my motivation broke.

So i am afraid of asking for help and also afraid to be let down. (life happens, and diet buddies have their own challenges and won't necessarily be there on a regular basis). This is why i actually went back to the Beck team, so that i would not be faced with this problem.

And I had forgotten about " finding a diet coach". Now i do not know what to do.

Feel free to come up with ideas. There is a good and constructive Overeater Anonymous group in my neighbourhood, but i do not adhere enough to the 12 steps philosophy to want to join.

I will continue to think and look. And hope that i can find a solution to my dilemma.

Hi, it is really important to have a diet coach.
I did it in a tricky way: shared my progress here on SP with my friends regularly, and asked my husband to be my real life coach after explaining what I expect of him.
Mostly I just kept with my "coaches" and turned to my husband only 1-2 times, but it was good to have his support.
I wish you success with the program, and I'm here for you if you choose me as your diet coach. did the program in Jan-Feb2015, and still practice.

OK... so this is the main reason I didn't join this group a week ago, before I started the Beck plan ... again!

I really do think I should be able to do this on my own. after all, I know EVERYTHING there is to know about dieting. ;-) But after reading and re-reading day six in the workbook and listening to my audio tape, I finally decided that I TRULY want to succeed this time, and I'm asking for help. I need someont to hold me accountable. Someone to help me problem solve when I struggle and celebrate when I am successful.

Is there anybody out there that would be willing to give me a little bit of their time and offer occasional words of advice and encouragement?

I am on day 15. I'm taking this slow. We can check in with emails daily or once a week whichever works for you two.

Oh! If it's possible we can set up or locate the daily check in here on Beck.

Up to you two.

The pink book recommends a diet coach. I was blessed to have one. The green book recommends a diet buddy. That seems more comfortable to me. Her new blue book does not suggest either, although she has you discuss a couple specific points with a friend. I suspect that is best of all!

I don't like the word "diet coach"...I have a diet buddy..we talk about food and food related things almost every day.
I also have a few other people that I can call at any time about food related things...I'm thankful for these people being a rock for me when I need them.

I am also grateful for AnitaJJ who has graciously chosen to start the same time as I have, it's good to know that someone else is working on the same thing as you are!!

Thanks Ani

Hi everyone! I'm just wondering if there is anyone here who would like to be my diet coach when I start The Beck Diet Solution (pink book) on Sat 28th March?

Naturally I'm happy to be a diet coach too if anyone needs one! :-)

Hello, Leanie64 - Are you loving the Beck book like I do? I am a few weeks ahead of you but have gained so much from it. I don't have a "real life" coach either and use this group as a coach and I think it works well. I hope you enjoyed that time on the recumbent bike. My exercise of choice is walking, outdoors when I can but on the treadmill listening to an audible book when weather is bad or time gets in the way.
The daily check-in thread gets more traffic so please come join us there.

Hi...I am on day 6 of Beck..I have pondered thorough out the day..who could be my coach. I have many excuses why so and so can't ..and why another wouldn't..and well, I have run out of options..Or so I thought. Till I read some of your responses and had this light go on..You all can be my Beck coaches. I don't feel intimidated, or ashamed by speaking about my trials for the day..or successes. I feel comfortable sharing my inter most feelings..since I struggle with similar challenges , as you do. So ..welcome to my world.
Today I have read my response cards (2x's), consciously ate slower, stayed within my calorie range (1200), and I am just getting ready to do my 45 min. on the recumbent bike. I have done good!
I do like how each day is planned and explains how to accomplish the plan..along with sabotaging thoughts and then the helpful responses..Boy do those help.
Hope you are all doing well and getting healthier..I'm off to the recumbent bike.
I will check in tomorrow ..

I'm happy to be a diet coach if anyone wants one. I have buddied up with several people for WeightWatchers etc. I see a diet coach (haven't got to day 6 yet!) as just someone to encourage us? Someone you can contact if things get hard? Hubby is super supportive.

As for people leaving their husbands when they lose weight... well I suppose Lisa-120's hubby may have got that from the fact that maybe when people leave their husbands they lose weight, so it's kinda upside down thinking if you see what I mean?..... I certainly will not be leaving mine! Part of the reason I'm losing weight is so I can have a longer healthier more active enjoyable life with him! :-)

Day 6 is the first challenging day for me. I am leaning to using this team or a spark buddy for a diet coach. My thoughts are that my DH would be awesome IF he was willing to do it. It might help him not encourage me to have another specialty coffee or go out for dinner. We already have a challenge of his belief that people who lose weight leave their spouses. My mom is super supportive, but I doubt she would hold me accountable. My sister has lost a substantial amount of weight with WW, but she isn't active and is already super busy with her family. I have had a friend offer before, but she is a little opinionated and I think she would be upset if I didn't do things her way.

I would love to hear the experiences of people who have done this already with their diet coach. What worked? What didn't?

I have found a diet coach on team 55+ladies. We are discussing the book there too.
Most of them are using the spark coach but I don't have that. I am rereading and reading this book because I didn't do everything to start with so on day 6 in one team and day 18 on the other. I have made my response cards bigger this time on neon index cards...so they are in my face all the time.

Periwinkle if that works then work it. I'd never use my hubbie. LOL. Well hear goes after being at spark what I have learned about trying to get exercise/diet buddies???????????????? Many folk work and I am a SAHM been that way for years by choice! I can get on the computer in the early morning and late at night when the kids are gone to school. Now in the summer that is a struggle. Now most 52 most in my neighborhood of color don't exercise diabetic or not. I see many none minority exercise. They work I don't. In the beginning of joining spark I thought I had to have a spark workout buddy. Others have more issues then I do and end up quitting. But after many attempts it did not work for me. Some are not committed to exercise. Yep i am still working on my eating. I'd love to have a workout buddy. But being some are not committed that has made me reconsider trying to find one. I am a lone wolf when it comes to exercise. I do not talk while working it is distracting to have some talking all the time. It slows me down. Probably sounds mean but when I workout I want all my energies focused on getting the job done. Ladies at the gym talk so much I do not see how they get anything done.????????????? So I have decided to use this team for supports. I probably could go to the help line more though.....................lone wolf gotta learn new trick especially when I need help.

I am going to use my husband as my coach. He is usually very supportive and encouraging, but also willing to hold me accountable. I say usually because I suggested we get a treadmill and he totally blanched and told me that it would be a waste of money b/c I'd never use it! I think that's more reflective of his penny-pinching than his lack of support for me. In general, he's very interested to hear about my weigh-ins, has helped me put together my vision collage, gets my exercise accoutrements ready before I need to work out and always reminds me to keep positive. This was an easy choice!

My problem is that I'm usually the coach but...find it hard to be accountable to others. It took me a long time to admit that I binge. I admited to it in one of the forums I started and only recently admited to real friends that I have a problem. Including friends that have known me for years.

I think I will continue to use the teams in peertrainer that I belong to as there are several people on the same sort of diet as me and there is one team member that is working through the Beck solution book.

I am going to use you guys as you seem great and have been very helpful and motivating.

I might use my 17 year old daughter if she agrees. My main concern is for her not to have hang ups or food issues. She is slim and eats sensibly. She can have chocolate lying around her room for days on end and it won't tempt her.

I started out with Atkins almost a year ago so I have a group that is still active although a lot of us moved on to other diets and we remain accountable. Mention our "cheats" according to Atkins and encourage each other. I am going to continue using that group as my sounding board.

I am following a primal template diet as my main diet and what the dietitian recommended as a backup plan.

The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your
life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on,
rely on, or blame. The gift is yours -- it is an amazing
journey -- and you alone are responsible for the quality of
it. This is the day your life really begins."

New goals:
Eat Positively
Exercise daily (that one is already achieved)
Experiment with 3-5 meals a day
Avoid binge for at least 3 weeks.

I agree with you! The best part about this site is that there is always someone or an article or a blog or something....to help provide support when you need it. Glad to hear this time around you realized what wasn't working for you in the past and you are making changes.

This is where I fell down when I did Beck before. I couldn't find any support so went to first Weightwatchers and then Slimming World for support. Neither worked because I don't work well with either diet. On Spark I have found buddies and spark friends who have really encouraged me. And I love that I can get on here whenever I like for as long as I like. And encouraging other people helps me too. I don't think any of my buddies eat and exercise anything like I do, we're all different, but we can all be there for each other. And there are so many ways to encourage and be encouraged. Emails, comments, likes, topic posts etc etc.

I am feeling great! I have dedicated some extra time today & I have completed day 4,5,6.

So, my hubby & I had a dispute during my first couple of days about going out to eat together for fast food. Despie my argument, he has agreed to be my diet coach. He has promised me to be supportive & helpful in my journey to a happier, healthier ME.

For my own sanity, I am also using the W8Watchers Forums & Sparkpeople as my backup diet coaches. I think hearing what other people have gone through is helping me stay focused & not lose sight of the big picture.

I feel like such a lucky girl tonight.

XOXO

A commited Diet Coach can be hard to find!

I have a good support system in my family even though they do not understand the highs and lows or stuggles people that have had WLS have.

I also have a Site that is very supportive and encouraging that I consider to be my WLS Family, they are not familar with TBDS though.

I am going to use this board as my diet coach as well! I thought about using my boyfriend, but I have no problem telling him to buzz off when it comes to eating something outside of my plan! emoticon

So, this is a fun step for me because I am super social anyhow. I will of course be checking in with this team everyday so that is a big help. I now have a spark buddy that I will be emailing back and forth once a week....at least for the first few months and hopefully longer :) I have my mom who also wants to lose weight but I don't think she can really be my coach. We are kinda bad for each other....when we eat together it is always like some crazy overeatting....and Lord knows we don't need to go to food shopping together! But, I think that if we can both get commited to this then maybe we can start helping each other. I am also going to be joining a Weight Watchers meeting here so I am sure I will meet some people there. YAY for setting up a support team!

Be blessed,
Dawn

I got a coach! A bit of a different approach, I've bought a packet of training sessions from a personal trainer who does everything from weight loss coaching to bodybuilding competitions. While I'm not looking for the latter, I truly believe that strength training is SOOOOOO important to weight loss and fitness - and I'm excited to have the "coach" be about "building fitness" instead of "weight loss". My first session in June 6th - and just having that scheduled has energized my motivation to stay on track with my eating plans

for some reason, this is a tough one for me -- I don't feel like telling anyone about my re-focusing for weight loss. but you guys know so maybe that's enough, eh?

Hi Elly. This is a great group for support. I'm going through Beck for the first time and KNOW I wouldn't be as faithful to the program as I am without all these great folks cheering me along and offering guidance and accountability. Welcome and Best Wishes for Success!!!!

Hello Sparks!

I am new to spark people and new to Beck. Today is my Day 6. Everything is making sense so far, not easier to change habits and to make myself sit down / eat mindfully etc - BUT I'm trying and I will get there.

I don't really have anyone who could be my diet coach so I'm hoping people in this group will hold me accountable and give me a kick up the bum when needed.

Have a lovely day. x

I have not looked intently for a SparkBuddy, and I don't yet have one. The SparkPeople group is helping me a lot, though. The Teams have taught me so much that I am piecing into my lifestyle. The articles are great.

I talked to my husband this morning and explained what I will need from my Diet Coach, and he accepted the challenge. I think he was surprised (and even a little pleased) that I asked him. I know that I can depend on him to support my efforts and call me out on my mistakes. He is a really special guy!

I'm starting the Beck Solution again. I'm going to count on my spark friends to keep me accountable.

I have two diet coaches: (1) my Spark friends and the Beck Spark Team for immediate and daily needs, and (2) a Health Coach through my employer's Wellness Program. She and I check in every two weeks.

I decided to ask my sister to be my diet coach.
She knows me better than anyone else. She said she should be the person to do it because if I needed to talk to anyone I would go to her anyway. She is right.
hopefully it will get her in the mood to eat healthier too.

Yesterday was not perfect, but good enough I am moving on to Day 6.
I do not see a diet coach in sight.
I am very close to my sister and she is next door and available. She is overweight, but dieting is not a priority for her a this time.
My husband knows just enough about nutrition to set me off. He is more of a food police than a diet coach.
This has hurt my feelings and caused me to overeat in the past. I am not going there.
I love him very much; but I do not want a food police!!!
I have said all that to say this:
I NEED A DIET COACH BUDDY!!!!!!!!
I use the nutritional tracker.
My menu is made for the day.
I follow my menu and if things change, I revise my nutritional tracker.
I am 70 years old.
I need to lose 30 pounds.
I sometimes eat emotionally.
I enjoy eating what I consider a healthy diet; with a few less healthy food choices.
(Bacon,Butter,etc in moderation and counted)
I am sugar free now for 81 days because I am a sugar addict. The only bite I can control is the first bite.
I have decided I must cut my calorie intake.
My menu total for today is 1236 (less than usual)
Contact me, if you think we can work together.

My son lives with me and has agreed to help with the coaching. He has OCD and tends to get too involved (obsessively). So I will be depending on this team to help me out some of the time.

I'm going to have to ponder this one. When I tried this before I asked my best friend. At the time she was very busy traveling for work so it was a chore to check in with her.

I am going to use my husband and my mom. They are both supportive and both easily accessed.

Hey, does anyone want to be Beck Diet buddies/coaches with me?

I'm 29, and I'd like to lose about 20lbs. I started a blog to keep me on track ( lizzy-beckdietsolution.blogspot.com/ ), but it would probably be more effective if someone actually read it!

Anyone with similar goals?

- Liz
