Did all the assignments! My goal is really eating stability - not weight loss, but the Beck strategies work for me too.

I wanted to do the October Reboot, but then I got really sidetracked mentally and physically. I was in Germany on vacation until October 7, and I'm pregnant. I have just been so tired and couldn't muster up the mental energy to adapt the program to pregnancy. But after this weekend, I decided I need to. It was my birthday weekend, and I was very gluttonous. I can't keep eating that way for myself or for the nugget, so I'm starting the (a?) Reboot today and will try to catch up a little bit.

So here are my new advantages, since none of my old ones actually worked. I may blog them later:

1. I'll feel good knowing I'm giving the baby what it needs and not what it doesn't.
2. Baby needs a healthy home for the next several months.
3. I don't know what baby experiences in the womb, so I don't want it to get hooked on sugar or whatever else.
4. Easier labor.
5. Stretch marks will be less.
6. I'll bounce back quicker if I gain only what my doctor says and am fitter physically.
7. I'll feel better physically.
8. Pregnant bellies are cuter on skinny girls.

I'm 4'10.5". A normal BMI for my height tops out at 121.

I tried Beck earlier this year and managed to lose some weight. Fall has arrived and all those wonderful baked goods are tempting me so I thought I would restart Beck in order to keep me on track. I'll see where my cards are and post my reasons later on this week.

Advantages to losing weight:
1) I'll look and feel better
2) I'll have more energy
3) I will be healthier and able to do all the things I want to do
4) I'll be able to go on longer and more challenging hikes with my husband
5) Clothes will fit better and as an added bonus, I'll be able to fit in my older brand new clothes just hanging around in the closet
6) I will be a good eating role model for my kids
7) I will not be a slave to food

I am late to the party, but I took some time to gather up all of my diet journals, notes, old ARC cards, etc. Now they are all in one spot, duplicates tossed, and in chronological order in one expandable folder. Quite a history of me, I must say. I am reviewing the past to study and learn where I've gone wrong. First and foremost, I have never gotten past Week 3 in Beck. The first time I started Beck, 10 years ago, I lost weight so quickly I didn't follow through with the rest of the book. Then I had two more children over the next 8 years, and I really allowed sabotaging thoughts to control my thinking.
I am here at the beginning and I will stay the course.
I created ARC 1, posted a few in various places and set reminders on my phone. I spent 30 minutes on my stationary bike, ate only until mildly full, and drank at least 8 cups of water. I am excited to begin again, with a new, realistic, perspective. My ARC 1 ends with: "If I want different, I must do different - Every Day." Best wishes to you on your journey, Teammates!

I have been through the Beck review 3 times in the past; my advantages are in the note pad on my phone and I had an alarm set to remind me to read them. It didn't work so well because I just cancelled the alarm and didn't take the time to read them. This time through I will write them on note cards and post on the bathroom mirror, the fridge, and my computer monitor at work. No missing them that way!

Updated advantages:
1. Become more healthy
2. Reduce back pain, knee pain, and plantar faciitis
3. Enjoy hiking without huffing and puffing; without losing energy and stamina.
4. Present a more polished image at work.
5. Be there for my family

But for now my advantage card:

2.I'll look and feel better.
3. I'll be more active,more flexable.
4.I'll be able to breathe better and have more energy.
5.I'll feel more confident.
6. I'll be happier when I see my reflection.
7.I'll be proud of what I accomplished.

This is my second time doing this so I am giving it my all.

Look at all the participants for this review. Very impressive!

I rewrote my reasons recently and have them posted on my Spark Page. They have changed just a little bit, but not much. What I need to do this time around is read my ARC faithfully and actively reflect on how important these reasons are to me.

The 10 Reasons I Want To Lose Weight:

1. I want to be at my goal weight once and for all.
2. I want to eat to live instead of living to eat.
3. I want to be master of my food.
4. I want to get rid of the rolls I see on my body.
5. I want to increase my strength so I can do push-ups and lunges.
6. I want to be proud of myself for doing what I said I would do.
7. I want to feel like a heathy person - Fit * Active * Balanced * Strong!
8. I want to feel mentally comfortable around all kinds of food.
9. I want to feel that I deserve to join the Maintenance Team
10. I want to be a healthy example and roll model for others.

I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow and will be done for a week which I am sure will be full of challenges and sabotaging thoughts. My ARC should come in handy many times a day!

This is my second time through this book. I lost 15 pounds the first time. I got thrown off by getting pretty sick because my life got real stressful and I got ulcers. I had to go into survival mode and had to eat things that didn't bother my stomach... gained 7 pounds back, but I am 100% again and am learning to say, no.

My new goals. Choosing the right foods will help me...

Lower my blood pressure
Lessen the pain with my arthritis
Raise my energy level up
Have clearer thinking
Feel Younger
Be a great role model for my kids
Have more control over the foods I eat
Lessen mood swings, less talking! :-) Too much sugar = talk talk talk..
Have More Confidence
Look Younger!

I am so looking forward to doing this with everyone! I know this works. I feel stronger just being apart of this group!

This is my 3rd time thru Beck and I have simplified my Advantages. After maintaining my weight loss for 2 years I gained 7 pounds this year after having surgery with complications in February. I got sloppy with my Beckniques but I know I can get back on track by using them again.

I want to:
Be proud of myself
Look and feel healthier
Be able to do more
Enjoy eating and food
Stop feeling guilty
Be less self conscious
Enjoy my clothes
Be an example
Have more energy
Enjoy life more

This is my 2nd trip through the book. My reasons remain the same, but I will highlight a few key thoughts.

I spent the last 4 days in NYC with my mom and 2 of my sisters, walking and enjoying the sites. This trip reinforced my desire to be healthy and fit. Getting the remaining 'uncomfortable' weight off (10 pounds?) would make me feel so much better - knees and hips less achy. At my last blood check, I was classified as prediabetic... emoticon ...I must do something about this.

My main reasons to want to lose weight:
1. son's wedding 11-11-17
2. Other son's graduation in May of 2018
3. Feel like myself again - not controlled by food
4. Be happier with myself and appearance
5. Easier on my body - feet, knees, hips
6. Feel proud again of myself

Looking forward to October and Beck!

This is my third time through the book. Mine have always been maintenance goals and my ARCs have evolved since pass #1. Last time through, I boiled my ARCs down to a handful of reasons. When I found myself rattling off my reasons without even noticing what I was saying/reading, I fleshed them out to describe what it would looked like in my real life.

Reason 1: "I'll feel more in control" means I don't feel compelled to snack when I get home from work. I resist cravings for chips and candy. I control my emotions, keeping things in perspective, and deal with strong emotions in constructive ways that do not involve food.
Reason 2: "I'll feel less bogged down (mentally & physically)" means I'm energetic and alert so I can try new things, complete my daily tasks, keep learning, maintain a positive attitude.
Reason 3: "I will not be frumpy" means I walk with energy. I have good posture. I carry myself as if I care about myself and about life. I live in the present. I fit into clothes that look good so I can look good. I won't be old before my time.
Reason 4: "It's good for my brain" means I can learn new things, follow complicated conversations, ponder current events, keep up with the world around me, challenge myself, keep a fresh outlook, change if I want to, enjoy new experiences.
Reason 5: "I'll be able to stay active" means I can run, kayak, bike, lift, zumba, play tennis, walk, hike, climb. Nothing stops me from playing when I want to play. Daily exercise is a motivator and something to look forward to every day. Variety keeps it interesting and keeps me injury free.
Reason 6: "I'll influence my health as much as I can to ward off disease" means I am in the best position possible to live a high-quality life no matter how many days the Good Lord gives me. My brain is well fed and it can properly control every function of my body. I am not sick. I don't have any dreaded diseases. I can heal well if I am injured.
Reason 7: "I won't fall and break my hip" means I have good strength, stamina and balance so I don’t worry about falling. I am not frail.

I created my cards and detailed descriptions.
I wrote them down and have posted them where I will see and read them.
I implemented a reminder system. I will read them in the morning. I will also read them before I leave work, in the car before I start my drive home, and upon arriving home, because the transition time between work and supper is a HUGE trouble time for me.

I went through the full Pink Book series earlier this year... but always a good idea to continue reviewing to keep the concepts fresh in my mind. I kept my notes from the earlier session and will re-post my daily comments with updates if I have anything else to add

When reading these advantages, I need to reflect on WHY these reasons are important to me

I'll be happier with myself and feel proud when I look in the mirror
Other people will notice and feel respect
I'll be able to wear a smaller size and button/zip clothes easier
I'll be able to wear or try all types of stylish clothes and feel good in them.
Shopping and trying on clothes will be more fun
I'll be healthier and feel more energetic
Stepping on the scale at the Dr's office won't be an ordeal
I'll be stronger and better able to participate and exercise in classes at the gym
I'll be lighter on my feet and it will be easier to run faster
I'll feel more in control and be in a better mood
I'll be happier and feel like doing more activities
I'll have more confidence and self esteem
I'll feel more outgoing and social
I'll enjoy my food more
I'll be a good example to my family
Cooking, shopping and planning meals will be more enjoyable
I like looking lean and fit with waist definition
I won't be at the mercy of food cravings.

WORTH IT MOMENTS

1. Coming home from vacation and maybe not losing; but not being worried about stepping on the scale.

2. Being in a social situation and going home knowing I made good choices.

3. Being able to wear nice flattering clothes.

4. Feeling proud when others compliment on how I look.

5. Feeling worthy and confident.

6. Traveling and being able to do physically taxing activities
.

The Beck Diet forum has started today with lesson #1 being YOUR true soul searching advantages to losing allll these pounds / living a healthy life. Mine are basically the same:

Live a long, healthy life with hubby.
Being able to participate fully in life … with hubby.
Changing my relationship with food … while keeping the best relationship with hubby.
Watching my 3 gorgeous children with their spouses raise my 9 more-gorgeous g-kids.

My Day 1 ARC Advantages of losing weight

I am not at goal weight. I want to reach and maintain goal weight.
I want to feel good and be healthy, fit and strong.
goal weight - my fittest weight - where I have optimal health, energy, strength, endurance, balance, flexibility, agility

I want to feel good and be healthy, fit and strong physically and mentally.
On the mental side, I want to use the Beckniques to change my mindset to think like a thin person

On a wider scale, I want to use Cognitive Therapy techniques to prepare my mind and environment, to plan, set goals, solve problems, change distorted thinking and create healthy responses and routines in other areas in my life.
Cue/trigger --- response routine/habit --- reward!!

Every day encouragement to motivate myself and counter sabotaging thoughts - People act according to how they feel

Checklist
Created the Advantages Response Card - Yes
Wrote, recorded, or posted these advantages elsewhere - photographed them on my cell phone - posted here
Implemented a reminder system - tied them into 2 everyday routines, - before breakfast and after supper

Where you end up is more important than how fast or where you start out.
- Improved fitness and nutrition, energy and confidence are my rewards.
It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
A PH (personal high) is the main goal, a PB is the sometime icing on the cake.
Never underestimate the inevitability of gradualness.
Sopra le nebbie delle valle e le vicende della vita sorge una promessa di luce e serenita.

I am revising my ARC slightly from what I wrote on sept 3 2017, not too long ago and I am changing the "will" to "want". I find it will give my ARC more traction.

I am FED UP with being overweight (at least I am not obese anymore and I want to resume my healthy progression)

I want to be slim, it is appealing to me
I want to feel strong

Thank you Kriszta for leading this.
I will be able to walk easily, be healthier, have more energy and a fuller life.
I will regain confidence that I can reach my goal and maintain.
Losing 20 pounds will reduce my foot or knee pain. Every 5 pounds will improve my ability to walk without pain.
To move towards a higher level of fulfillment, joie d vivre, I have to first complete the physiological need to be right sized and physically well.
I want to attract friends who are also fit and who value wellbeing.
My beautiful skinny clothes will fit.
I will feel proud and pleased when I look in the mirror.
I love the complements I get when I am thinner. People are surprised to see me. They think I have a new haircut. Then they tell me how young I look.
Losing weight will slow down the aging processes in my body.
Life is so much more fun if I comfort myself in creative ways instead of seeking comfort in food.
The act of resistance begins to be pleasurable when I practice it regularly. It is delicious to feel mentally strong and tough.
I will develop my sense of efficacy.

Well I could do that but why would I want to?

For reinforcement, I took a photo and posted it a couple of days ago, but, like some others I've done this multiple times, and my advantages response card has evolved. It now has less about size/weight, more about health.

* I won't have to buy new clothing due to "outgrowing" it.

* My knees, ankles, lower back, etc. won't take on extra strain of pounds regained.

* I will feel better on a daily basis.

* I smile at what I see in the mirror.

* I will know that I am doing what I can to prevent / delay the onset of the diseases associated with age and excess weight.

* I will avoid the after-decision debates of justification versus blame and guilt!

* I will feel like my best self.

* I will fit in "Eliza the Sleek" (my wetsuit)

My plan to review is first thing in the morning before I head down to breakfast, and at the critical time of leaving work in the afternoon. And of course, as needed!

Great Advantages Lists!
emoticon

It is important to remember why we want to lose weight and keep it off,
writing the reasons down and reading them daily helps to focus in difficult moments.

First time readers: the first 14 days are about learning basic skills needed for successful dieting, gradually, actual "dieting" (changing the way we eat) starts on Day 15.

I have been doing this for some time, so my Advantages Response card is about why I want to continue.

Why do I want to keep up my healthy habits?
I'm free form cravings, overeating and hunger
Dieting is easy, I'm in balance
I'm haooy, healthy and pretty
I'm satisfied with amount of food thin people eat.

I'm going to read this twice daily: at breakfast and at dinner, my reminder will be my food mat. When I see it. it is time to read my card which is next to it anyway : )

I will feel more in control of my life.
One less thing to worry about--how my weight is affecting my health.
I will lose some fat around my hips.
I will be more mindful about eating food that I really enjoy rather than just stuffing my face.
I will feel happier when I look in the mirror or at a window reflection

Daily affirmation:
* I am a good person, and I deserve respect.
* I choose to respect myself today by refusing to engage in verbal or emotional self-abuse.
* I have been successful at many things I have set out to do, and I can learn to do better at the things that give me problems.

Hi Everyone! Pleased to meet you!

I have a bunch but will mention some really important ones for me:

1-Your cancer, diabetes, stroke risk is higher when you are heavier. Cancer runs in my family.
2-Really tired of being overweight and then skinny over the course of one year and then the cycle repeats itself the following year. Want to get a handle on my bad habits.
3-I love the energy I feel when I eat clean, get enough sleep and exercise. I want that to be consistent.
4-I want to look good in my skinny jeans and shorts again.
5-Tired of having a bulging tummy while in my bathing suit.
6-I like BDS strategy when it comes to cravings and hunger.

Thanks everyone!

Here's my ARC, or as I call it "The Reasons Why". It's a little wordy, sorry. It's a note on my phone, and I've set reminders to read it. Sometimes I have Siri read it to me, which is a little hilarious...

Because I want my joints to feel good when I wake up in the morning. I don't want creakiness in my right hip, right shoulder and elbow.

Because I want to fight inflammation, as it has links to dementia and heart disease.

Because I want to feel great in my skin again. To look great in clothes, including lingerie. I want to feel sexy again.

Because I have spent most of my life knowing that I look really good, and I haven't felt that way as much lately. I want that confidence back.

I want to know I am in control. I don't want to end up like mom, out of control. I'M in control.

I want to buy myself lots of cute clothes.

I want to be physically ready for all the work that is coming down the road. I want to be stronger, leaner, more flexible.

I want my neck and arms to look better. I want my flat stomach back. I want to be able to look in a mirror from behind and see the difference in my behind!

I want to feel strong. Like I know I really am. So my outside will match my inside.

I want to be as healthy as possible, for my hair. Dr. Northrup says carrying excess weight can add to hair loss.

I want to be a positive role model from my daughter, to show her the power of choice, determination, commitment, perseverance.

I want my man to be proud of me, and I want to feel that he's proud to be seen with me.

I recorded my reasons to lose weight. I placed them on cards to place in my purse, also in my daily book to be read each time the book is opened. It is what I call my book of everything. It contains the actives through the day. I use it a lot.

Day1- Advantages of Losing Weight

I"ll be more in control of my mind and body
I'll nip this pre-diabetic thing in the bud and improve other health issues.
I'll stop feeling the first impression people have of me is how flipping big I am.
People won't see me and my athletic husband as a mis-matched couple.
Take physical intimacy to a new level.
I'll do more things with the grandkids
I'll fit in. Into things like theater seats, restaurant booths, plane seats, chairs with arms, tight spaces and more.
I'll enjoy shopping for clothes. Less frumpy styles, more stores, expand my choices!
Looking in the mirror will be much less painful!

So, since I just recently rewrote my ARCs, I didn't have any advantages to add to them. But I did write a Response Card to remind myself to read my response cards and set up my cell phone for the reminders. I'm also really happy and grateful to reread the chapter, because I remembered some important things, like reading them twice a day until you no longer struggle with dieting--I haven't been reading them as often as I should AT ALL. I also took the idea of reading them "Daily, at scheduled times" to heart more. I was never good at reading them at the same time daily, though I did read them twice a day.

And here's my list (warning: it's incredibly vain emoticon )

1. I like feeling small.
2. I'll have more fun going out and will want to more.
3. I'll have more fun shopping for clothes and will be more stylish.
4. I'll be happier when I look in the mirror.
5. I'll get hit on more, which is fun.
6. I'll look younger.
7. I'll be the prettiest.
8. I'll be able to wear a smaller size.
9. I'll have more confidence.
10. I'll feel like I deserve to buy expensive clothes and potions to look younger and good.
11. I want to be able to eat at maintenance on purpose.
12. I'll feel younger.
13. I'll have more energy.
14. Food won't be so important, and I won't think about it much.
15. I'll live longer and be in better health.
16. I won't be self-conscious.

I'm 4'10.5". A normal BMI for my height tops out at 121.

Day 1 - The advantages for the Dawg to not let the weight creep up and to stay in maintenance.

I’ll live a longer, happier, active life with Dan.
I am carrying less weight on my injured back and hip.
I no longer have constant pain or discomfort.
I can run again - as much as my hip will let me.
I’ll be able to compete in the NJ Triathlon come July.
I feel like I accomplished something important.
I look better in my clothes.

For those interested, I blogged about Day One. www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

Day 1 task: write out the reasons I want to diet, as a reminder of why I'm going to all this effort:

•I will feel more in control of my life and my body
•I will reduce chance of diabetes
•I will be less likely to have a recurrence of cancer

I went to the library and found the book! Mind if I join in?

Why I want to lose weight:
1. I'll feel good about myself again.
2. It will help me with my horseback riding.
3. It will boost my self-esteem and confidence.
4, It will help me maintain a running program (just started).

Day 1
I want to lose weight so that
I won't feel so self conscience/ashamed around other people
My mirror reflection will make me feel happy and proud
I will look and feel better about myself
I can wear my small clothes
I will like myself again
I can be proud of myself
I won't be so angry at the scale
My blood sugars and blood pressures will stay down where they belong

I like that I am setting a good example for my family
