I have used all these great principles in the past and was quite successful.
Here I am on day one re - learning and absorbing all the wonderful tools again.

1. The feeling of losing extra weight so my my other body parts gain from it (knees).
2. I want to have more energy from 3:00 - 9:00 pm each day.
3. I really want to wear the stylish smaller size clothes I have and discard the size I'm
currently wearing - never to return to again.
4. I need to get excited about food again while making healthier choices.
5. Realize it's important to be proud of myself no matter what stage I'm at.
6. Live longer by choosing better options
7. Change my thought process on eating the RIGHT way.
8. I want to be stronger at saying NO to poison foods and many other things in life.
9. I will look forward to rising at 4:30 am each morning and exercising one hour before work.
10. I will finally realize once and for all Mountain Dew is very unhealthy for me and contains
way too much sugar.
11. More to come....

I will print multiple copies and make them very visible so I read many times a day.

I find comfort in all the similarities between my list and others.

I'll be able to wear smaller clothes in any style.
I'll feel pride - not guilt - in what I eat.
I'll like how I look; others will like how I look.
I'll be healthy and disease-proof, giving me greater odds of living a longer, more quality life.
I'll feel joyful when I step on the scale and look in the mirror.
I'll be confident in how I look - at home, work, and the beach.

my focus is on loving my WHOLE self....no longer interested in changing me....accepting me as i am today.
for me this translates into kindness, food choices that are made in love. :)
losing weight is not my goal but a byproduct of caring for me like i would my gbabies:)

Beck provided a list of benefits in her book ... and after doing some soul searching ... I added things to make my own personal list of Advantages of Losing Weight:

I値l be in better health ... physically and emotionally.
I値l have more energy ... to live my life more fully and do all the things I am missing out on.
I値l feel better ... physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I値l like myself more.
I値l feel more in control of my behaviors and emotional eating.
I値l increase my self-esteem ... feeling at peace with myself.
I値l feel better in my own body.
I値l feel more freedom.
I値l live longer ... to be here longer with my beloved healthy hubby.
My bionic knees will last longer.
I値l be able to wear the clothes I already own.
I値l be able to purge existing clothes and have only the clothes that fit me on hand ... forever. No more multiple sizes ... past, present and future sizes.
I値l be able to wear the clothes I truly like ... no more passing items up coz do I buy it in today痴 size, next size down coz I 菟lan to lose weight or my dream size so I can own it forever.

Loved reading other's posts. I'm adding in "will no longer avoid having my photo taken" straight away!

Here is the rest of my day 1 list:
REASONS I WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT


1. I will give myself the best possible chance of living the life I want for myself

At first it is hard, doesn't have to be perfect.
I wrote a rather general list to start with, then revised as I discovered new advantages.
Now, after years my favorite advantages are being free from cravings and overeating, and that dieting is quite easy.
Some Sparkers put on the list some activities that they will be able to do once they lost X pounds, or being able to walk without pain.
Time will tell!

Hi Everyone

What I've read here has been so constructive that I'm encouraged to share.

My motivation is:

Health related - I need to be better friend to my liver (NASH).

Work related - I fast-fix snack and sugary food under stress and as procrastination. This is totally what my liver does not need.

Social - 5 grand babies aged 7 weeks to 3 years. They deserve a Nana who can share activities...and they are only going to get bigger and faster.

Personal - Dealt a low blow from someone dear and my self-esteem has taken a battering. It would help to feel and look the best I can.

I still have a lot to offer! I would like to feel stronger, healthier and more in control.

Looking forward to the Beck journey. :)

Oooooh, your "not hiding from the camera" one went straight to my list too. It is an important one because friends and family WANT us in their pictures, we are part of their memories, so dodging the camera makes me feel badly.

Really late to the party!
Day 1 of the BDS. Here are my advantages of losing weight:

-I will feel in control of cravings and overeating.
-My clothing will fit better and I won't have to buy clothing in the next size up.
-Food thoughts won't rule my life.
-I will feel more confident and have more energy.
-I will learn how to cook/bake healthier meals and snacks.
-I won't have the "well I ate that so I might as well binge then start tomorrow." conversation so often.
-I can buy some new less frumpy clothing.

I have my Advantages on a phone app with pictures of myself living healthy and I look at it almost every day.

1 I want to maintain my weight loss because I want to continue to reap the benefits of my hard work
2 I want to be able to walk/jog/hike/exercise and have energy for fun in my everyday life
3 I want to be able to enjoy eating and cooking in a healthful way
4 I want to be able to fit in all my clothes from year to year
5 I want to keep my blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and weight in a normal range
6 I want to feel "normal" , not depressed, and live longer, happily
7 I want to have less hunger, fewer cravings and "know" that I don't have to experience the aftermath of a binge ever again
8 I want to be at peace with food,

I am late starting too. I have read Beck Pink book twice but haven't stuck to it. This time I am committing because, after visiting a dietician yesterday:
1) I have been eating badly--too much chocolate, too much Diet Coke, not enough veggies, etc., etc.
2) As a result I feel tired but can't sleep from all the caffeine
3) I haven't shifted any of the 30 pounds I have gained in three years

How will Beck help me?
My dietician says that I have to find alternate ways of "comforting" myself than chocolate and Diet Coke. Beck will help with that if I focus.

This is my first time reading Beck pink and am late starting the reboot of Oct 2016. Here is my Day 1 task. I致e been in maintenance for a year (or try to stay in it), so my advantages list is about why I want to follow the Beck Diet solution during maintenance:

It will be easier to stick to a healthy life style
I値l feel more in control.
I値l be free of cravings and overeating
I'll not squander the important accomplishment of losing weight.

Why I want to maintain weight loss:

I値l inspire DH and kids to be healthy
I値l stay healthy and strong, so I can play with and care for my kids
I'll live longer
I値l look as if I am in control of my body, feel confident, and be able to wear the clothes I like

PS: I'm putting all my ACRs in to an app called Quizlet on my phone. It allows me to access them from anywhere with internet. I will also have a hard copy in my bag though.

In reviewing my monthly progress for September, I realized that some of my strategies from Day 1 of BDS were a bit flawed. I read and reflect on my ARC every day before breakfast, but I realize I also need to do this when I come home from work. That transitional time is fraught with temptations, and my resolve is low. I am now motivated to make this small but significant change and expect to have better success dealing with cravings and snacking decisions.

The reasons for maintaining my weight essentially boils down to these four ...

1. Love the feeling of being 殿t home in my body again!
2. Feel better in so many ways physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually
3. Reduced risk of disease / improved health
4. Easier to move leading to increased physical activity and improved functional/recreational fitness

My Advantages to losing weight

To look better
Increase self-esteem, confidence
Stave off diabetes, heart disease (both in my family)
Move/exercise/hike easier and better and with less chance of injury
Wear fun clothes
Reduce BP, cholesterol.

My first newbie post on Sparks, the Advantage Response Card:


1. Taking care of my body honours God.

1 Corinthians 3: 16-17: Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person; for God's temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.


2. Losing weight and exercising will help me with some health conditions I have been dealing with: joint pain, bursitis

I am restarting Beck also

Great insightful advantages lists!

Mine is a bit strange, as I'm in maintenance and I have been practicing Beck skills since early last year - so it is about why I want to continue.

Why do I want to maintain my weight by sticking to my plan?
-I'm free from cravings and overeating
-I'm not worried about hunger, I know it is fleeting and mild, as long as I eat my 3 planned meals a day
-dieting is quite easy and I'm in balance as long as I practice my skills
-I'm strong, healthy, confident and enjoy good mood
-I look good in simple clothes

Day 1 The advantages of losing weight.
I want to reach goal weight, then I want to stay there plus or minus 5 pounds.
I am currently 10 pounds from goal weight, the last 10 are the hardest to lose.

1 Feeling more energetic and capable, have better balance, flexibility, strength and endurance, to be able to work harder and enjoy playing and exercising more.
2 Having a better strength-to-body ratio, to be able to do more chin-ups and be a better rock climber. Rock climbing is my passion.
3. Looking sleeker, having a better silhouette, losing the menopause belly.
4 The three above goals I achieved when I was at goal weight in 2011 for 6 months - I want to achieve them again and keep them for life. I want to achieve and maintain a balanced, healthy, fit, disciplined lifestyle. I don't want to yo-yo or rollercoast. I want to gain the mental side (thinking like a thin person) of weight loss and maintenance.

Going through the book again:

WALKING
* Weight loss helps heal my feet and my hip (bursitis and arthritis) so less pain
* Being able to walk more
* Which means being able to have a dog!!! emoticon emoticon
* I'll be able (with healed feet) to dance and do zumba and aerobics.
* I can take long walks with my husband.
* I can take long walks period.
* I can stand on my feet longer; better for my job
* Cleaning the house, doing the chores will be so much easier.

FLEXIBILITY
* I will be and feel more flexible
* I will be more fit
* I will feel less heavy
* Turning and bending will be so much easier

HEALTH
* I won't have so much pain in my feet and hips and body overall.
* I will have more energy and more stamina
* I will have a better blood pressure and this is better for my kidneys, too.
* I will be healthier and have less risk of diseases such as heart complaints, diabetes, cancer and strokes.

PSYCHOLOGICAL
* I will feel like I am taking good care of myself.
* I will feel good doing what I really want to do with food and having conquered my weight problem.
* I will feel FREE!!!

APPEARANCE
* I will feel better about how I look
* I will look better
* My clothes will fit and I will look better in my clothes
* I won't dread seeing my reflection

PRACTICAL
* No worries about personal hygiene becoming a problem
* Fitting into chairs in restaurants

* * *

Advantages of not overeating / bingeing and sticking to a food plan:

* Avoid a roller coaster of bingeing / overeating and then being 'good' again.
* Having the time and focus to occupy myself with other areas of my life beside food.
* Better sleep pattern
* Better sleep means better moods
* Clarity about what to eat when and how much of it.

So, and what are my reasons to overeat / binge? Just feelings and thoughts like 'I can't stand it.... I need to have something... I need distraction.... I want this now... I have to have this... Just this once won't hurt... It s too hard.... I will have this now and be good later..."I don't care". Lies! Lies! Lies! emoticon

Over time, I've recorded 26 advantage responses, some rather trivial, some significant, some specific to certain personal situations, and some more broad. I boiled it down to a few that sum up the whole ball of wax. Basically, all my other responses expound on one of these reasons:
>1>I'll feel more in control.
>2>I will not be frumpy.
>3>I'll feel less bogged down.
>4>It's good for my brain.
>5>I'll be able to stay active.

So we are ready to start a new session with Beck Reboot of October 2016! I hauled out my old ARC cards and reviewed what I had written for Day 1 - Why I Want to Lose Weight. The reasons I posted back when seem to still apply, but I remember that they seemed to lose their power almost as quickly as I wrote them. They were the "same old story". This time I need to come up with only a couple of reasons that will give me that POW feeling for motivation when I read them every day. So this is what I have come up with:

1. I want to be a WINNER.
2. I want to look in the mirror and be able to say to myself "You look darn good, girl!".
3. I want to be proud of myself for accomplishing what I set out to achieve.
4. I want to be within my goal range so that occasionally I can eat certain foods without feeling guilty and/or the need to make excuses.

After reading Day 1 again, the most important thing that I took away with me was that I HAVE TO DO MORE THAN SIMPLY READ THE WORDS! I have to think "How important is this to me?" This is key to internalizing your reasons and committing them to memory.

I just started last night and made out this list
1 I'll be more confident
2. My face will look thinner, less under chin fat. I'll have a neck!!
3. I will lower my risk of cancers and heart disease
4. I will live longer
5. I will feel better- more energy. Less pain
5. I will l like seeing myself in pictures
6 I'll enjoy trying on clothes because things will fit better and look better
7 I'll get a really cool haircut and my face will be thin enough that it doesn't look ridiculous.
8. Lower risk of diabetes

Day 1, I have been putting off starting but I finally feel I am ready to begin because the longer I wait, the harder it will be to jump in. I am not sure I will be able to post on line for all days. We only have a hotspot for our internet and when I log on hubby complains about the data going down too fast. But it is OK for him to use the data.

My goal in not really to lose weight but to gain control over my eating the right foods.

One of the advantages is helping me deal with my frustration in life. I know that I have a better attitude and less mood swings when I eat healthy.

Advantages:
1. I only live once and I want to get the most out of my life.

2. I do not want to suffer from chronic diseases that can be prevented by the foods I put in my mouth.

3. I like being able to move without aches and pains.

4. I enjoy physical activities, like running races with my grand daughter (I have a secret motivation to beat her best time)

5. I want to nourish my body so that if something happens it will be able to repair itself quickly.

6. I will lose excess body fat. Although I am at my weight goal, I am carrying too much body fat.

7. I will feel good about how I look and confident .

8. I like the idea of being independent in old age.

9. I will be free of the SUGAR SALT AND FAT trap that the food industry has set.

Advantages of weight loss:
* Physical complaints (foot problems, arthritis) may be less bothersome or who knows, heal...
* Better for my blood pressure and therefore for my kidneys (slight disfunction).
* If my feet should heal I can take long walks again, dance, do aerobics and other forms of exercise that require standing and walking! Also my job will be easier and I could maybe work more and earn more (my work requires standing on my feet).
* I will probably have more energy and stamina
* It will be easier to move and bend and twist!

Thanks for the support! I am starting to actually enjoy the preplanning of meals which is a miracle as I am quite spontaneous and not terribly structered or routine based.I had a good walk in a boreal forest admist birch trees and wildflowers today too ! Happy day to all!

Here goes....insomnia relief for anyone reading!
1- Be stronger and more heaalthy ( decrease risk of diabetes and obesity related disorders)

Maintenance Lessons Learned:
-go on with the healthy lifestyle learned in weight loss phase
-just add healthy foods gradually to stop losing
-work out every day - 30-60 minutes is enough to maintain weight and good mood
-do not try to balance overeating by extreme workouts, it is not going to work
-avoid overeating, instead of satisfaction you get stronger cravings

A very long list, but here goes the Reader's Digest version.
I'll do my job better.
I'll age slowly and gracefully.
I'll not have to worry about how to dress myself.
I'll have a peaceful relationship with food.

Where do I start?

1. I will be slim at my kids weddings (my oldest is 21)
2. I will be a cool grandma a few years down the line and run around in the playground with my future grandkids
3. I will look strong and slim
4 I want people to believe me when I say that I exercise 5 times a week and exercise with 4 kilos in my arms or leg weights (When you are overweight people don't believe you)
5. I will be at peace with food
6 I will save time by not spending it on eating out of control
7 I will fit into all my clothes and buy new ones to show off my succeess

稗eing able to comfortably walk for miles each day on vacation, to feel confident in unknown surroundings not worrying if people are staring at me, to not feel out of breath walking, handle 10 days of walking 10+ miles without feeling miserable, so my thighs dont rub, less body acne, my clothes will fit better, to protect my knees and my old-growing body, less back pain, more stamina in all activities, enjoyment of outdoor activities more, not feel like i need to wear frumpy clothes until i reach my idea size (im tired of always waiting to buy clothes), feeling comfortable trying on clothes, not always feeling like the fat friend or the fat one at the office.

I can see the backs of my legs when I shave them.

I can squeeze into small seats on Japanese commuter trains.

I can climb on to the window sill and dust the curtain rail.

I can buy normal sized clothes even in Japan.

I so appreciate reading through everyone's reasons and advantages. The depth of humor in some is so inspiring and joyful :-)

I'm going to go work out, eat a healthy breakfast and put some thought into articulating my own reasons. I truly need to bring some grounded purpose and attainable goals back to my life窶ヲ

My reasons for losing weight fell into four categories and I made an Advantage Response Card for each one:

Health
Fitness
Appearance
Self Image

While thinking and writing these I had a revelation! There is one that matters a lot to me, even though it's a bit silly. No more Fat Knees! lol

The only time I don't have fat knees is when I am really, truly slim. I'm 67 and that hasn't happened since I was about 57. So there's a goal for me, hmmm? No More

The things you learn about yourself when you begin to write. Sometimes I don't know what I think until it comes out my pencil.
