Yesterday was kind of different. I had low blood sugar and ate too much with that. I'm going to have to figure that out. It's the first lbs I've had for a long time.

Today is Day 11 Differentiate Between Hunger, Desire, and Cravings

I've noticed that I'm very hungry between lunch and dinner. I'm hungry about 2:30 and get progressively more hungry until dinner. We've had dinner between 6 and 7 for quite a while. If I drink enough water, 8-12 glasses per day, I'm not as hungry.

Dinner went exactly as the chart in the book.

Wow Berta! 4.2 rocks! How's the less spontanaeity (sp??? LOL ;) going? Still feeling committed?

I do think it helps to make a serious committment. I like the sparkpledge. I have it printed out on my fridge and try to mentally make it every day. Although when I'm tired, I feel like quitting... so that's why I think the pledge helps me :)

I have to give up some spontaneity. Did I tell you I'm retired? I have the time, and am going to make a serious commentment.

This morning my weight is down 4.2#, yah me!! It's working. Dieting takes time and energy. Dh and I discuss what we'll have for dinner while we eat breakfast. It works for us.

I hope I'm in the right place. We decided to stay here, didn't we?

Right, nothing like fresh washed air!

I can't believe we're wrapping up week 1. Thought I might just change the title to week 2...

How was week 1?

Week 1 was ok for me except exercise... trying to see if I can switch morning to evening exercise while my schedule is wackadoodles for a week or 2... the Give Yourself Credit is still my fav skill from this whole book....

I've been looking for my bracelet, guess I'll have to make one. I wore a rubber band today. We went to get groceries today. We drive 40 miles and had lunch at McDonald's. I decided on the grilled chichen salad and it filled me up. I don't have the groceries done yet, but will in a while. We have rain today, also. It feels good not to have to chase irrigation water and stay out of the garden for today. Things really grow with rain better than irrigation water. It washes the nitrogen from the air.

I'm doing well, bought a pink bracelet to help remind myself to give me credit when I do something well and when I don't do something that is unhelpful!

We are having rain again! oh how it makes everything grow!!! LOL ;)

The detour took longer than I thought. We put bird netting on the strawberries as they are being eaten. We have a lot of critters here.

Anyway, to continue with what I started, I used to eat like my dad, but over the years, I've started eating much faster and with much less thought. My weight reflects that.

Being visually satisfied is a big thing on our plates. I love the vibrant colors, also. I harvested some radishes today, I gave them to my sil. He bought the seeds and only 4 came up. I think the seeds were eaten by birds, or night creatures. I planted more and they've come up. I put a scarecrow up and pinwheels. I don't know if that's the reason they've left them alone or there's more for them to eat.

How'd it go last night RunGirl? I understand! & Woohoo for choosing to participate and enjoy a treat with others... & Woohoo for stopping at one!!! And woohoo for deciding it was just a choice and ok and not a reason to beat yourself with wet noodles!!! *yay* u :)

Berta, there is something to day 5... the normal eaters I know also tend to eat more slowly than me. I tend to scarf when hungry and totally not pay attention when if I"m also doing other things, like talk to others or other tasks...

My sabotaging thought with this... is I don't have time. I can't... Why does it matter, isn't losing weight more about cals?

I do think there is something about being visually satisfied too. I never thought colorific freggies would make me drool & now I adore seeing a rainbow on my plate... Who knew? I just never anticipated that!

Day 5-EAT SLOWLY AND MINDFULLY

There's somethign to this. My dad ate slower than anyone that I've ever known and was thin his whole life. My kids used to bet between themselves which would be the longest chewed mouthful he would have during his meal. They would actually count and see who won the bet. My dad didn't ever know it. Sometimes he could chew his oatmeal 100 times.

BBL, dh needs me.

I'm really bad about saying or thinking anything positive about myself. I did have 1 treat last night, but I don't feel bad about it. It was with the whole family and I only had that one, not several. I've already had my 1 treat for today so I'm a little nervous about this evening. Need to read my cards!

Day 4-GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT

Today I gave myself credit for not eating out of the fridge and eating while sitting down, and it is easier than said than done. Giving yourself credit is something we don't do naturally. It is a good lesson, Jules. We all do a lot of things that are right, but focus on the things we do wrong.

Wow, those are wonderful cards Berta!

Yesterday day 3, Eat while sitting down... easier said than done... samples in the store, shared foods walking with friends whereever... but it sure illustrates to me how food is just everywhere in my life, and i don't need all of it... or even most of it, lol ;)

Today, day 4 is Build your confidence/Give yourself credit... this has to be my all time fav lesson from her that really helped me the most and change my focus from what I was doing wrong to what I'm doing right... Luv! Luv! Luv! this!!!

Tomorrow, day 5, Slow Down and Be Mindful... that is as tough for me as day 3, Eat while sitting down... i guess i just tend to be interested in what else is happening, but I can't tell you how many times i look down, it's gone & i don't really remember eating it, so good practice for me :)

Day 3-EAT WHILE SITTING DOWN

Today I made more cards. ' Eat only while sitting down'. 'Just this once, turns into way too often.' 'Make sitting to eat a life long habit'. 'Don't take samples at the grocery store (WalMart or Costco)'. 'Don't take food from the refrigerator while getting something else.' 'It's important to see all of your food spread out in front of you at meal or snack time, so you can be more visually satisfied'. and 'Don't forget to drink water'.

All of these are things I need to work on and not forget. When I'm around my sister, I see how many BLTs (bites, licks and tastes) she has and how many calories it adds up to. It's an easy to fall into and I don't want to do it. One thing I've found out from repeating the Beck Diet Solution is that I have forgotten some of the most important things Dr Beck is teaching, like EAT WHILE SITTING DOWN. I'm going to have to be mindful and read the card a long time after this is over if I want to be successful.

Day 2 was a success! And I have my meals planned out for today so I feel pretty confident about today going well too. It's the weekend I worry about. On the No S plan, Saturday's and Sunday's are "S" days which means you can have a snack, sweet or seconds. My problem has been that I went overboard on the sweets every weekend. I also didn't eat the healthiest meals. I've decided I'm going to treat the weekend just like weekdays. I'm not too worry about tomorrow because I have to work, but Sunday might be full of temptations. Will have to keep telling myself, "Oh well, no choice!"

Rungirl, I think it's great that you count calorie. I quit doing that and look where that got me. That is the only way I can do it. Once I quit, it seems to be a license to eat.

Made my response cards today and ATLW.

Hi everyone, nice to see new friends & old :)

emoticon Day 2, are you ready to commit to a plan. Are you still looking plans over or already going? There are so many kinds of plans, sometimes variety can be helpful, sometimes I like a jumpstart kind of plan. Any healthy plan will work, sometimes I think we just have to find what truly suits us (& our mood, lol ;)

Sounds like most of us are ahead of the curve here... I'm doing a food exchange (counting) kind of plan because i prefer the flexibily, and am working my plan today...

emoticon Day 3, will have to remember to eat sitting down...

emoticon Day 1, advantages of losing weight.

Whew what a huge day! Well, I started my ARCs and list... but will have to add to it as things come to mind. The majors are easy! Better health measures, more fit & move easier... I can't wait to shop in the regular stores!

We were away from home all day yesterday, but I did pretty well eating out. Tried just to do regular foods and not make it a food vacation! We're headed out again, so I'll be back tomorrow to chat more.

Today I hope to get to the grocery and get the fresh fruits & veggies from the new sales. I find if I have them ready, I tend to eat them. My diabetic food exchange plan tends to arrange food like the myplate.gov picture with 1/2 a plate for freggies... This morning I had a nice stirfry mixed veggie egg scramble, watermelon & piece of toast... so off to a good start.

emoticon this summer will be spent close to home & helping my parents... moved in the last 2 days, as long as needed, so no vacations until after, maybe fall.

Berta, your garden sounds awesome, i've never known anyone to do an acre! That will surely keep you busy!

Well, I need to scooch, times flying! Cheers, jules :)

Day 1 went well. Actually stayed within my calorie range for a change. I hate that I still count calories, even just mentally, but I'm afraid I'd get out of control if I didn't. I know if I kept my meals "healthy" I probably wouldn't worry so much, but yesterday for lunch instead of eating the carrots I packed I bought a bag of Parmesan Garlic Pita Chips. That turned my lunch into 700 calories instead of 350 so it lead me to planning out the rest of the day, dinner. I got pretty hungry around 3:30, but I didn't give in. Went home and ran and ate my dinner, that's all. I craved a sweet treat after, cause I usually do, so brushed my teeth and chewed some sugarless gum instead. It worked.

I'm going to try the No S plan. I've been listening to cutthefatpodcast.com and also want to try a lot of the suggestions they have for eating such as the Primal Blueprint. As for exercise...I've been very sporadic lately and haven't been doing much. I'm going to shoot for consistency and try to do at least 30 minutes of exercise everyday.

Day 1: I decided to follow a 1200 calorie diabetic exchange diet. I don't eat sugar and it's easiest for me just to have exchanges and plug in the food on hand . I've done South Beach for a few years and am tired of 4 1/2 c of vegetables daily. I love vegetables, but I need a break.

What do I expect from the summer? I have a LARGE garden and work in it daily. Most of the summer is planned around it. We have a large lawn to maintain and work outdoors at least 3 hours daily. I have tendonitis in both achiles tendons and am pampering myself with that. Dr told me not to squat and take Advil. I'm thinking of doing something different, just don't know what.

We don't have any vacations planned until September.

The Beck plan worked for me a few years ago and hope for success this time. I need to make it a way of life and not go back to the old ways of thinking. I have to CHANGE MY THINKING or train my brain to think like a thin person.

The greatest advantage to me is to regain control.

As I've already mentioned in a previous thread, I'm doing 3 meals per day, no snacks, sweets or seconds. If I am really truly hungry I'll have a liquid snack like a low cal protein shake. I may need those if I work out after work as I don't think I'd have the energy for a good workout having not eaten for 4 hours or more. I have to stay away for sweets for at least 21 days. As Beck talks about, I don't think I'll break that habit if I keep giving in the cravings every weekend. I really have to remind myself daily of the techniques she talks about. I tend to give in to the WTH thinking way too often and have to learn to just accept that it's OK, and expected! to not be perfect.

I've always exercised pretty consistently so I'll stick to at least 5 days of cardio (at least 30 min) per week. I try to do some strength training the other 2 days, but I haven't been as consistent with that.

Really hoping I'll see some good results at the end of the 6 weeks!

I had the pink book for a while. I borrowed it from the library and even ended up paying a fine for it. I was really not with it and had a lot going on. I think I was trying to go too quickly and then just crashed.

My plan is to really take these two weeks to focus on what works for me and what doesn't. My biggest issue is that I binge, I'm an emotional eater (for any emotion), I'm yo-yoing and gaining for the last year. I low carb out of choice but then binge on carbs..you see the pattern?

My plan is to do the following;
At least 30 mins exercise a day (one day off allowed a week) - I do that anyway
Eat 3 1 course meals a day with 1-2 snacks if needed. During the week my meals will be 1/2 a plate of veg, 1 portion of fruit, the rest carbs/protein combo. Trying to have smoothies on days I don't feel like having breakfast.
Friday night and Saturday are days I allow myself more leeway. 3 course meals but at least 1/2 my meal has to be veg/fruit combo.
ice cream/other treats allowed on weekends and special occasions.

Write in my Sparkjournal how I felt during the day and what I did. Today I didn't binge but I ate all the wrong stuff for lunch because I had a job interview this morning and I was apprehensive (whether I get it or not)..that's what I mean by emotional.

what are other people planning on doing?

The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your
life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on,
rely on, or blame. The gift is yours -- it is an amazing
journey -- and you alone are responsible for the quality of
it. This is the day your life really begins."

New goals:
Eat Positively
Exercise daily (that one is already achieved)
Experiment with 3-5 meals a day
Avoid binge for at least 3 weeks.

emoticon Hi everyone, we can talk about the day here but the team has all the individual days with gr8 comments of those who've been there done that! Remember to check those out too :)

emoticon Day 1, Week 1 starts Wednesday, 5/30 with weighins on Wed. Day 1 seems to be about motivation & pondering why we want to lose weight, starting our set of cards & lists!

emoticon The book has us start our mealplans now with our first weighin in 2 weeks, & then we can post weight or just change in weight, as you prefer.

emoticon Has everyone chosen their mealplan? What will you be doing?

emoticon Any of her books or workbook work fine. I'm using the pink books and it's ok if you don't have both, either one or the other color works fine :)

emoticon 6 weeks, we'll be way into summer! Imagine the possibilities! Beck can help us stay focused when all the summer temptations call... What is summer normally like for you & what would you like to happen this year?
