Cindi said something that is also true for me. I stop tracking when i am out of control. So this time, I am eating way too much, but I have kept on tracking it. And it is actually much less than other times when I have eaten a lot and not tracked!

One son and gf left today. Other son leaving Tuesday with DH to go to Arizona to work on selling house. My DIL is staying here with me because she is working in Chicago on her research for the next couple of weeks.

So far I've been mostly consistent 6 days. Today I got on the scale and had the best weigh in since last fall! I hope it keeps up! I'm going to stick with the tracking!

Been getting myself in the tracking habit. Going well. One of the things I realize I have to do is have some control over what and how much I'm eating. I give up on tracking when I have lost control.

I tracked today and stayed in all of my ranges!

My kids all arrived safely today. We went to some fireworks. It was fun. Tomorrow we see my mom and my sister's family.

I hope to be really tracking during this visit because it is too easy to rack up lots of calories if I don't make myself watch!!!!!

I'm tracking. It definitely helps. I feel more in control than I have for several months.

Chocolate is my biggest challenge as well, but right now (knock on wood) it is not calling to me.

Laura, I know the struggle about the chocolate. I am trying so hard to stay off sweets. I know I can do it because I have done it before, but lately, I manage a few days or even a few weeks, and then something drags me back.

But I figured out something important for me. Even when I am eating more than usual, I never, ever get to these ridiculously high numbers of calories unless I am also eating sweets. For me, the key is to stay off the sweets.

I have been eating some werther's sugar free hard candies that take a really long time to eat. You get five of them for 40 calories. I am trying to eat those instead of sweets and never go over five per day. I'll let you know how it goes.

I stayed on track yesterday! emoticon

Tomorrow ought to be interesting. I have a late morning appointment out of town, and then I need to stay in town to take someone to a doctor appointment later in the afternoon. So that means I'll need to pack a lunch or eat out (which is always scary for me, because I can't plan what I'll eat). By the time the appointment is over, it will be time for dinner----so I may need to eat dinner out, too. emoticon I don't know how I'll be able to stay on track!

That is great, Cindi! I hope you will like this place to post how it's going. I find that coming here to tell about my food has kept me more in line.

Tonight, I am just about to track my last things ... I'll open a window and do that and tell you how it turned out. (Deciding and tracking in advance would be a much better choice for me, but I have not gotten back to that quite yet.)

Everything in range! Calories, fat, carb, protein!!! I even got in a little exercise today.

I've been getting back to tracking. My problem is that I get off track. (no pun intended) Either, I get busy or I start eating a lot of other stuff and lose control...and then I get discouraged. So, this is part of my new focus. Tracking.

Today, my good news is that I passed up some very tempting desserts at a luncheon. The bad news is, I have tracked in my food so far, and I have really eaten a lot. (I can just imagine if I had added the layer cake, the chocolate fountain, and the personalized m&m's. YIKES)

I had my weigh-in yesterday. No gain, no loss. I'm hoping that means that I'll have a big loss next week! emoticon

I stayed pretty much within range yesterday, even though I did eat a couple of things that were unplanned.

And I'm not really craving chocolates like I used to! emoticon It's really amazing to me!

Exercise has been much better than usual for me. I signed up for the SP Virtual 5K to take place the week of July 29. I'm really excited about it! And now that I'm training for it, it gives me a real purpose for exercising. I love it!

I saw my dietitian yesterday and told her about my eating this week, my "Aha!" moment, my increase of exercise and signing up for the SP Virtual 5K. She was astounded at my sudden change of attitude toward eating and exercise. She said, "Who are you, and what have you done with Laura?!" LOL

Today, when I was out and about, I did think for a minute about getting something to eat like a candy bar or something---something quick, because I was very hungry. But I stopped to think about it: Was I truly hungry, or just craving chocolate? And I decided that I was experiencing true hunger because it had been many hours since breakfast. I also decided that I didn't need to get that chocolate bar just because it was there in the checkout lane. I had a nutrition bar with me, so I ate that and felt much better.

Yay!!! I'm making my resistance muscle stronger! emoticon

I am doing much, MUCH better. It has finally "clicked" in my head that food does NOT give me the love and acceptance I've been craving. And I think that is why all of the chocolate I ate wasn't making me feel satisfied.

Yesterday, the only thing outside of my food plan was a chocolate chip cookie (an experiment of sorts to try out my new way of thinking about food). But it didn't kick off a binge as it would have done in the past! emoticon

I can already tell that today is going to be different from my past. emoticon

I really know what you mean, Grace. It is very hard to get on the right path.

Today, I decided not to track. We had a funeral and shiva, and I knew that my eating would be hard to keep track of. One decision I made ahead of time was to stay away from the sweets. I am happy to say, I stuck to that plan. Tomorrow is another day.

I just finished tracking everything, and I stayed in my ranges today. (My fat grams went over a tiny bit.) For my night snack, I had cereal and yogurt. It is a "sweet" treat without being a dessert. The trouble is, sometimes it makes me think about having sweets after it.

So tonight, I was just about to go eat candy. I was watching a rerun of The Closer and Brenda is such a sweets-a-holic. So I saw her eating some chocolate cake, and she gets this look on her face. I thought, I can eat candy and feel that way... But I stopped and thought about that crazy sabotaging thought. How would eating the candy help me? I managed to talk myself out of it.

Laura, I think you really need to add more food to your regular plan. Let me know if you ever want to "consult" about this. I am very analytical and maybe I can help you figure something out.

I'm glad the medication change is working for you. That is GREAT to be down six pounds.

I ate some candy today. I just "felt like it" and then just a few minutes ago, I ate peanut butter. So other than those two things, my eating was great today. But those are enough to blow it out of the water. I don't know why I do it.

My eating has improves but it took a second dosage of metformin to do it. The medication does not allow excessive fat consuming. If you indulge in extra there are some unpleasant side affects. I am down 6 pounds. I have had difficulties tracking on the computer school is out. So i have tried to track on paper.

My eating yesterday was fine. Today, all I have had is breakfast. I am having trouble deciding lunch because lately I have been eating a big salad, but we ran out. Today we will shop.

I have been doing a new thing with making a huge amount of salad in advance and keeping it wrapped up tight in a green bag. It stays for at least a week. (I put a variety of lettuces, cucumber, red pepper, carrots, and celery. I leave out a few things to add at the end, such as avocado, onion, egg white, nuts, and a "main protein food" such as chicken, beef, or cheese.)

I will figure something out for lunch and then I'll get back enough energy to get out to the store. (I didn't go in the morning because I had a student.)

Those foods that lead us into overdoing it are the toughest! It is good to plan our some kind of strategy. For me, not much works when it comes to sweets. I mostly have to just say no to all of them.

I do have a new distractor for my sweets problem. I found some werther's sugar free sucking candies, I bought caramel and also chocolate-coffee. They are very little but take a while to suck. I'm having those now, and so far, no other sweets.

Last night I overate, but for some reason, the scale was friendly to me today. It is about time, because I have been eating right and exercising and getting nowhere. So maybe I am going to start moving down. I hope so!!!

i am on track as welel.

as to cravings I learned something that is working great for me: controlling my cravings. I love Pizza, bagels, and Jelly beans. I allow myself to have Pizza and bagel on pizza and bagel day at work and adjust the rest ofmy calories to accomodate those foods on those days. Once a month I go to the store that sells bulk candy and buy a small amount of jelly beans -- eat them at work and throw the rest away. then i don't go nuts

Today I went over on my calories and carbs. I ate an extra night snack (actually I started with one small thing and then ate TWO more things.) Right at the moment it is happening, I don't stop myself. Why is that? Anyway, I tracked it. Tomorrow is another day.

Today I went out to dinner with friends. It was a vietnamese restaurant. I have to try to track it in, but my thought is that I did not do too badly. They included a free dessert, and I chose the fresh fruit!

The brunch was beautiful, but as expected, the calorie range was pretty high up there. She had an egg quiche, which was good but full of salty bacon and fatty cheeses. There was homemade granola served with Greek yogurt, which I didn't try. There were cookies and scones and fruit and veggies and a lettuce leaf salad. I can't remember everything that there was, but I know everything was good. Anyway. That's water over the bridge.

Meanwhile, chocolate still has its hold on me. It's gotta stop.

I tend to do better when I weigh myself regularly. When I don't it sneaks up on me.

How's your eating lately, Gwynnie? Mine is better than it was a few weeks ago, but still not quite good enough to get me to lose weight. (At least I stopped gaining.)

I ate a little too much at Mah Jongg tonight, but it wasn't too bad. Just a lot of popcorn and some sugar free hard candies. My totals were OK, with fat just a little over range. I did not get to the pool today. Maybe tomorrow!
