I never got to chapter 2. Having a hard time getting to where I want to be in that book. I know it is a must read for me, but I am having such a difficult time making time for that book. Well, I am doing well, but I probably could be doing better!! Jen

I'm about to go for a "quick" run and then read Beck. Restarting the program - well practicing the steps daily. Ready for results... don't mind if the come slowly, I just want RESULTS!

i am doing Weight Watchers as well and I am doing the "old" method of Points Plus where I follow how many points to eat (i am at 26) and I track everything. It works better for me

Doing weight watchers, but not sure about the Simply Filling options. I feel like it counts on people being able to just eat until satisfied, so many foods don't have points, and I'm feeling a little lost. Did lose 1 lb this week even with stumbling with cravings twice. Thinking about switching to the Points Plus.

I love the Elliptical, its my favorite piece of equipment.emoticon
I have been so tempted to buy one, but, they are all so different. I seem to favor one brand, of course the Gym has commercial grades and I can't afford that but figure I can still go to the Gym to use one
Are YOU joining the Biggest Loser Challenge??

I like that they have a Floater status, if for some reason a person ends up there.

I went to my cross fit workout this morning. Had a protein smoothie and then went with my daughter to the YMCA. I read people magazine and did the elliptical slowly but for 40 minutes. We picked up some lunch and then hiked about a mile to a nice beach, ate, walked, walked back. And, I've been faking alertness ever since. I am completely wiped out and will sleep great.

I made my favorite summer dinner tonight...corn on the cob and fresh sliced tomatoes. that is all. sooooo good. Will have a tomato sandwhich for lunch tomorrow. yum

she suggested I lower points just a tad and mix up my eating a bit. BEcause I work full time I tend to eat the same things for breakfast and lunches so she suggested I figure out a way to eat something a little differently as your body gets used to the same foods

Hey, Gwyn, please be gentle with yourself! Maybe think of what you are doing RIGHT and how you could do more of it? One of the many things I love about the Beck approach is that we can be scientist. There are no "bad" results, only experimental evidence that leads us to form new hypotheses and experiments. One that was very helpful to me in the past was to shift my emphasis to nonscale goals. Steps per day, minutes of exercise, tracking everything, get those hydration glasses down, etc. Praise yourself for meeting these goals. Make your aim health and enjoyment in each day! Then the scale seemed to take care of itself.

OK, Gwyn, what do you think is going wrong? Think hard about whether there are some ways you are not making the choices you want. If you are not, then try to tighten things up and choose better. But if you really do think that your choices have been fine, then you need to try to ignore the weight. Sometimes the scale does not tell the right story. All you can do is make good choices. You cannot control the rest. (I hope this helps.)

I am still not quite on track. I do well for hours and then I do something to wreck it. I am just not in the right state of mind. I am about to go on a trip, and I will have a lot of quiet time on the trip, so maybe I will do some reading and writing and thinking!

I think Muki graduated one year earlier than I did. (That was such a long time ago! My poor brain is foggy on that.) No one came from quite that far away, but we did have people from Florida, California, and Colorado. (And someone said Hawaii, but I don't think I know what that was.)

I had a really good time last night. I saw a lot of people that I had not seen for a long time. I ate some things that were probably not the most healthy for me, and I ate standing up because there were only a certain number of tables with chairs, and then there were those high tables where you stand next to it.

I am really tired, but glad I went!

I lost track of my posts, but I am back.

I had gained a couple of pounds when we were babysitting Max. Then I lost those. Then I gained a couple of pounds from some big eating last weekend (bridal shower, for one thing.) And I have not lost that yet. I have been eating too much cereal (my sweet snack).

Tonight is my 40th high school reunion. I plan to eat there, but I will be careful not to pig out. I should prepare myself for some emotions! (In addition to just seeing some very old friends, I have heard that one of our classmates is dying. He is trying to make it to the party, but I'm not sure if he will.)

i quit smoking about 17 years ago -- it was really hard for me. It took 2-1/2 years and it didn't get easy until i reached day 4 without a cigarette. I was very aware that I was not smoking

i can feel the energy of this group! I am back on track today; yesterday i ate out of spite for not having lost more the previous week. Really brilliant!!!.....

The silver lining is that i bought a whole bunch of oriental pastries and kept eating them until i felt agitated; since i had not had much sweets in the previous week, i could FEEL in my system the the agitation coursing through my body and my veins.As if i was on drugs.So this felt experience should help me remember that sugar is actually a drug, and that it harms my system.After a short debate with myself i threw away the remaining pastries.

It was after such a realisation that i stopped smoking cigarettes, literally from one day to the next, without even as much as one withdrawal symptom.(when i felt like smoking,i just needed to remember, for the first few days, how awful i felt in my body, to stop longing for a cigarette)

I did not win either, but might go back at some point.
Exercise and food were on track today, so i am pleased.
Tomorrow is my weigh in after the first week.I realize that i have to stay in range (1200-1550) in order to lose weight, even if i do exercise more.

we have casinos here in Minnesota -- the closest to us is about a 1/2 hour drive from our house on the reservation. I save my change and every 3 or 4 months i exchange it for bills and head to the nearby one. some times another farther away. I do slots but never win

I had a nice day with my mom today. We ate lunch out at a chinese place. I took half home. Also I ordered white rice instead of fried rice. I'm somewhat on track, but life is still too hectic. Bridal shower tomorrow!

It was fun at the casino.I never went to the tables, but played (and lost) at the slot machines.It would have been fun to play at the tables though.
I had been to casinos in France and the Bahamas, but never really played. I guess
Afterwards we had supper at the restaurant and i overdid it, but it was worth the calories.

I love going to a casino! We have not done it in a while. I like to go to Atlantic City. I have resisted going to the casinos that opened up nearby on boats. I am afraid that I would be compulsive. So for me, it involves going on vacation to get there! I like to play blackjack. I also learned craps but I have to remember how to play that. And of course, slot machines.

I guess i will have to stay in the "old" range, which for me is 1200-1550 cal if i want to keep losing weight!

Ha ha! this is easy to figure out. I'm frenzied! I am taking care of a one and a half year old which I have not done in over 20 years! It is amazing how babies can make me crazy! They have all the power!!! (I am taking a short break right now while my husband is watching Max. But then he going out for the rest of the day, and it is just me!) We have had him for three nights. He is going home this afternoon, so life will go right back to normal!

And this is a VERY GOOD baby! But, he is in perpetual motion! And he has his own ideas about things!

Now, if I had a little one around ALL the time, I would clearly need to analyze this more! But until my own grandkids get born, I'm off the hook!

Off to a good day for us all.
Interesting observation about eating more while taking care of Max. Sometimes we are triggered and it is hard to understand the meaning of it. What works sometimes is to take the time to tap into the feeling and try to identify what it says.
In any case, let's have a good day!

I did the 3 mile walk (WATP) but went 200 cal over....
was upset over something and ate too many carbs
well, tomorrow is another day.
hope you ladies did better than me.
At least i can already feel an improvement in my stamina when doing the walk.

Good job Gwynnie.

Rachel, I always look at my other nutrient counts. I personally keep my carb target much lower than spark would say because I have issues with blood sugar (pre-diabetes) and I do better with a mix that is closer to the Zone 40-30-30. As a result, I do often go a little over on my carbs but it is still way lower than they would say.

I had a good eating day. My calories were in range. Carbs and Protein on track, with fat a tiny bit over range. I also got to my exercise class today. (I hired a baby-sitter for our little visitor!)

i went to the movies tonight and indulged in 1 scoop of chocolate icecream. After the movie i wanted another one. Fortunately for me, there was no ice cream parlor on my way home. And once at home i satisfied my sweet tooth with 1 graham wafer, covered with greek yogurt and jam.

I am happy about the day, but worried about my tendancy to actually completely forget about my goal at certain times.Have to develop a strategy, because if i had come close to an icecream parlor, i am not sure that i would have remembered my commitment.... emoticon

Actually it helps to report and acknowledge my stumbling blocks;.....especially when i did not fall.....

In range + Leslie Sansone 2 miles.Did my walk first thing in the morning before it became unbearingly hot.
Went food shopping tonight and almost caved in, but found a 110 cal Skinny Cow Wafer that hit the spot without going overboard.

I will be on vacation for the next 5 weeks so will have more time to plan my food and exercise.I really want to make a dent in my weight.
Accordingly, I adjusted my tracker for the next 10 lb.

So this time my goal is 2 pounds a week, plus exercise every day.According to the new weight and calories tracker, the calories intake is adjusted every time you exercise.My range should be 1200-1550.
I will report here daily.
Anyone interested to join me?

yes it helps to have a plan. at my book clubs no one "serves food" but leaves food out on a kitchen table and just says "have some if you like" -- so no one feels obligated to have any

I just had a bite or two of what was offered and put my plate in the sink. We were all standing around in the kitchen. I'm not supposed to eat standing up, as you know!

So funny this has come up because book club is again tonight. A different women's house. It is likely to be cheesecake or some such. And, we'll be sitting in her living room. She is a good enough friend of mine that I think it's ok for me to say that I'm watching what I eat and could I just have a sliver. Then, as long as I really enjoy the sliver I don't feel bad. I am fullfilled and I can let her know how yummy it was.

I'm not in a book club, but I play Mah Jongg, and that used to be a major eating event. Over the years, most of us have moved toward a little bit healthier snacks. But for me, it depends on my mood. If I am not feeling like doing well, I get into chips or cheese that adds up to too many calories. The one thing that saves me is that I do not ever eat any of the desserts! (Just fruit)

I am in two. The one book club never has anything to eat. the second book club generally has healthy snacks available such as fruit and veggies. and they always have water and diet soda to drink
