hey guys!

I'm looking for a Beck buddy to get through the next 12 weeks, I'm doing a challenge. I'm setting a goal to lose 10 pounds but (honestly, I'd like to lose 20 if I could. But I'll consider it a SUCCESS if I Iose even 10 pounds and can keep it off. :)

I'm going to blog on my spark page hopefully daily to keep an account of what I'm eating, what I did well, what I can do better... and hopefully I'll get a good flow going and get the weight loss rolling.

I'm 28 - turn 29 on 7/23 - in fellowship (I'm a dr - been on spark since I graduated college - and I just want to improve my health and FEEL better and more energized. I'm mentally preparing for a 1 year journey of weight loss and fat removal. I probably have 40-50 pounds to lose to get back into the "healthy" BMI

I suspect my diet is going to have to change a lot and that will likely be the key to my success. I don't mind working out at all but with my ankles broken I am somewhat limited in my exercise. I have a new gym with a pool and I'm going to do more walking. :)

I think this is a great book and am going to reread it again. When I follow all the guidelines, I can be very successful. We all are working towards the same goal and all the support we get and offer to one another is very important. Thank you everyone for that!

Hi Hopes n Dreams,
I'm part of this team and I so truly believe in this book. It is the reason I have lost over 30 lbs and have kept if off. Let me ask you this, do you make time to watch a favorite TV show? or to read a regular book? or do you go on a trip and you are the passenger? Take a little bit of the time you are doing those things and use it to read the book. Every little bit helps. I was the same as you...I bought the book and read it off and on, didn't follow it, just picked it up and read it every once in a while after I first got it and then just completely set it down... A couple of years went by and meanwhile my weight was still a problem. I finally decided to get really serious. I was frustrated with Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, I'm a smart woman, I knew what I needed to do, I just wasn't doing it...it was a mental/emotional issue. So, as the holidays were approaching in 2012, I knew I would be in frustrated, demoralized and unhappy if I gained yet another 10 lbs come January. That's when I committed to reading the book and following it for the first 14 days. I kept telling myself "the steps are easy, there is no reason I can't follow them. It is just 14 days. Besides, what is the alternative? that you don't do anything and keep gaining 10-15 lbs every year?" That last sentence is what kept me going. I lost 5 lbs in the month of December! And I can tell you, it DOES get easier. I never did re-join WW or JC, I did use my FitBit tracker to help motivate me and to track my food and calories (which I did for a short while and I still do it every once in a while to check my calorie and carb/protein intake). And I also hired a personal trainer - but I only had 1 session per week...so it was really up to me to make this transformation happen. You can do it too! Don't give up. I did eventually read and follow the whole book. And I still listen to the CD while at work. Read chapter 13, my favorite useful technique.

I never got to chapter 2. Having a hard time getting to where I want to be in that book. I know it is a must read for me, but I am having such a difficult time making time for that book. Well, I am doing well, but I probably could be doing better!! Jen

I'm about to go for a "quick" run and then read Beck. Restarting the program - well practicing the steps daily. Ready for results... don't mind if the come slowly, I just want RESULTS!

i am doing Weight Watchers as well and I am doing the "old" method of Points Plus where I follow how many points to eat (i am at 26) and I track everything. It works better for me

Doing weight watchers, but not sure about the Simply Filling options. I feel like it counts on people being able to just eat until satisfied, so many foods don't have points, and I'm feeling a little lost. Did lose 1 lb this week even with stumbling with cravings twice. Thinking about switching to the Points Plus.

I have been planning and following meals, reading my cards, and charting hunger/cravings. Only 2 days into the program. I am following the weight watchers "simply filling" program as the restrictions are minimal and it's all about learning to eat and learning when to stop. Let's see...

MCCRAEE NICE workout.
I love the Elliptical, its my favorite piece of equipment. emoticon
I have been so tempted to buy one, but, they are all so different. I seem to favor one brand, of course the Gym has commercial grades and I can't afford that but figure I can still go to the Gym to use one
Are YOU joining the Biggest Loser Challenge??

I like that they have a Floater status, if for some reason a person ends up there.

I went to my cross fit workout this morning. Had a protein smoothie and then went with my daughter to the YMCA. I read people magazine and did the elliptical slowly but for 40 minutes. We picked up some lunch and then hiked about a mile to a nice beach, ate, walked, walked back. And, I've been faking alertness ever since. I am completely wiped out and will sleep great.

I made my favorite summer dinner tonight...corn on the cob and fresh sliced tomatoes. that is all. sooooo good. Will have a tomato sandwhich for lunch tomorrow. yum

she suggested I lower points just a tad and mix up my eating a bit. BEcause I work full time I tend to eat the same things for breakfast and lunches so she suggested I figure out a way to eat something a little differently as your body gets used to the same foods

Hey, Gwyn, please be gentle with yourself! Maybe think of what you are doing RIGHT and how you could do more of it? One of the many things I love about the Beck approach is that we can be scientist. There are no "bad" results, only experimental evidence that leads us to form new hypotheses and experiments. One that was very helpful to me in the past was to shift my emphasis to nonscale goals. Steps per day, minutes of exercise, tracking everything, get those hydration glasses down, etc. Praise yourself for meeting these goals. Make your aim health and enjoyment in each day! Then the scale seemed to take care of itself.

OK, Gwyn, what do you think is going wrong? Think hard about whether there are some ways you are not making the choices you want. If you are not, then try to tighten things up and choose better. But if you really do think that your choices have been fine, then you need to try to ignore the weight. Sometimes the scale does not tell the right story. All you can do is make good choices. You cannot control the rest. (I hope this helps.)

I'm still eating too much and I am about to go on a trip, so that does not seem like the best time to turn things around. But I am going to do some work on making some plans to keep the eating reasonable.

Focus on what you are doing - eating well and exercising - and try not to focus on little changes in the scale. See what is happening on the scale from one month to the next.

I am still not quite on track. I do well for hours and then I do something to wreck it. I am just not in the right state of mind. I am about to go on a trip, and I will have a lot of quiet time on the trip, so maybe I will do some reading and writing and thinking!
