I did not exercise today. I think I will get out tomorrow. I did eat some leftovers today, but I counted it all up and I did well.

Now let'ts talk about the day AFTER Thanksgiving! In the past I have sometimes been able to resist on a bit day, then overate in the next few days.

What's your plan?

I didn't love our stuffing so I plan to not eat any more of that. Other leftovers are all healthy enugh in moderation. I do have some bean pie I picked up at the farmer's market. Plan is one piece a day at the most.

AND I plan to MOVE today

Beck Diet Solution
Wednesday Thanksgiving Sabotage: Since itís Thanksgiving, itís okay to eat whatever I want. Everybody else will be doing that, too. Response: My body doesnít know or care what day of the year it is, it processes calories the same NO MATTER WHAT. My body also doesnít know or care what anybody else around me is eating, it only cares about what food I eat MYSELF.

Hi all! I'm glad to see this thread here, I was thinking about starting something to talk about holidays in general but T-day is where it starts, right?

My potential downfall will be the carbs-- when I over eat on those, even for one meal, it can trigger cravings again. We are cooking a small dinner for ourselves but dh wants mashed potatoes AND stuffing AND bread. That's fine. I'm roasting non-starch veggies to have around and we have green beans.

We get a full turkey too. I don't eat the skin but I'll eat light and dark meat. (I figure since I don't eat red meat or much meat in general the dark is fair game, so to speak!) I make a great stock from the bones too and always make a soup with the bits and pieces of meat that are leftover. We got a huge turkey for just that purpose. And I do plan to freeze some of the meat and probably most of the soup as well.

No desserts planned this year, although I did pick up a couple of mini bean pies and the market today. mmmmm

I find it much much much easier to eat more normally over holidays when I'm at home and can control the options.

I hope links to outside links are allowed. Here it is. Soooo yummy! I don't bother with the avocado cream, but I bet it would be crazy good.

For me, one big key is to not eat sweets. This is not the answer for most people, but I do much better in general when i am not eating sweets. A few months ago, I completely fell off the wagon, and I have finally gotten back to where I can just say "I don't eat that!" So I don't want to mess with it on Thanksgiving. If I take small tastes, it could start a whole new problem for me.

On another subject, turkey, I did something unwise. I am not cooking this year, but I really like having turkey leftovers. So I bought a turkey to cook! So, I think I will give myself one or two days where I eat bad parts, but then the only parts I will store are the healthy parts. I like to take the turkey and put it away in measured amounts to eat later. I keep it in the freezer. So, unhealthy parts - LIMITED - healthy parts - store to enjoy later as often as I want.

Sparkfully Yours, Judi

I love this idea

"So we can sort of make a game of exercising that resistance muscle on Thursday. How many times can I resist?"

and this

"Tonight I drank water between bites at dinner and it really slowed me down and caused me to eat less. I was full pretty quick."

Isn't my coach smart? ;)

I will be home so I can check in often. One of my problems is that I let myself drink more wine than usual, which really inhibits my ability to resist food. Not sure what to do about that. The obvious response would be to not drink, but I know that won't happen. I love relaxing with my friends and family and having a good time.

I remind myself that Thanksgiving is one day, one meal. Lol, how much damage can I do at one meal? For me, one meal is not a problem. I allow myself to eat want I want BUT in moderation. Super small servings of certain foods. SparkPeople is teaching me that the key to a healthy lifestyle is moderation, and that moderation means setting limits, applying portion control and making choices based on long term goals.

The day of Thanksgiving my mantra will be moderation. Lol, and throughout the day before putting food in my mouth I will exercise my resistance muscle to avoid eating mindlessly and remind myself to practice moderation.

Here's to a Happy Thanksgiving.

I wanted to go out but the last experience we had while eating out thanksgiving I opted not to go out. Things were so hurried at the place we went. We stood in line until my feet hurt and I became ill because my feet hurt. We got a table with folks who smoked emoticon and a man kept blowing his nose at his table. GROSS! it was terrible and I want to be relaxed and not in a hurry.

emoticon emoticon emoticon we are going out to a buffet, so everyone can have what they want and I don't have to cook anything. Then when we come home, I won't have ANY left-overs there to keep eating on for the next week. That is what I get fat from.

The other night our women's group at church had a thanksgiving potluck. I took very small servings, like tablespoon or two, of the things that I thought really looked good. I had some broccoli salad and that kind of bloated me up and I was too full to finish my biscuit and even my sliver of pie that I took.

I will not be cooking on Thursday so that helps because I would pick at the food as I was getting it ready. You know Judith Beck talks about not building the resistance muscle. She also talks about saying no to unplanned food.

So we can sort of make a game of exercising that resistance muscle on Thursday. How many times can I resist?

Challenge our self in that way and eat slowly, enjoying every bite then we will get full faster.

Tonight I drank water between bites at dinner and it really slowed me down and caused me to eat less. I was full pretty quick.

thanksgiving will be tricky....I think key for me will be not to cook too much food and have it lay around. Turkey of course, stuffing, potato salad or macaroni cass, Collards greens or green beans. I have not planned any desert but I think blackberry crumble would awesome. I have to count things...my twin tends to think that if it is not counted or posted it does not count. emoticon emoticon

I don't want to count every single calorie I'm eating during Thanksgiving dinner, but I don't want to totally blow it either! Obviously turkey isn't a problem, just turkey breast and no skin. I'm going to make brussels spouts so I can really fill up on those and take just small spoon of mashed potatoes. But other than that I'm worried about making good choices.

Can we toss some ideas around?
