Boy this is one of the hardest steps, but pre-tracking for the day is THE BEST way to avoid this bad habit. If its not written down, then how can I want it? I always include an special "extra" (extra as in the sense its a pleasure food and in my case Slow & Creamy Rocky Road Dreyers ice cream) for the end of the day, always counting it in advance to not exceed my calories. Don't feel deprived.

I was looking in my book and this is day 16. I'm going to go to the Day 16 discussion and post my resolve today. I think I need to do this and make it my plan for this week.

It's easy to think you're alone being the only one to deal with an issue. I'm sorry that others struggle with this too. I am happy though that this team exists.

I didn't pick a diet coach because I'm on here using my journal / blog and have a whole bunch of coaches for support. To us! to success. A steps forward, a step or two back makes for a more interesting dance.

extra food is especially hard at work when we have pizza day or treats at work. i am normally okay except if i have to gonear the break room -- i just need to remind myselef to say no

I have to admit that eating extra food is one of my problems. I'll have to work on this myself.

Hi Sparky, you sure do deserve credit for saying NO to extra food and for taking the steps you did.

Just saying NO to extra food is easier when I plan ahead and make meals I enjoy. When the urge to continue eating because something is so delicious I remind myself to wait 20 minutes so my brain gets the message that I'm comfortably full and that more food will be available at my next meal or snack. Lol, finally knowing the difference between the desire to eat and actual hunger helps.

Hi Judi, you're not alone. I plan and track my meals each day, lol, even on the days I choose to indulge.

Hi Sparky,
You are reminding us of important things! I have been in a habit of giving in to the extra food for the last few months. I am really tired of behaving this way, and this morning, I pre-tracked the day. I am sticking to it.

In the past, I used to feel deprived if I had to say no to extra food. Then when I started Beck over three years ago, I learned to feel differently about it. I figured out that I wanted to make the good choices because I would be glad about it later.

I did very well for the first year or year and a half. Then I slacked off to some extent. But I maintained the loss. Then about five months ago, I got off track, then on then off then on then off... and I gained four or five pounds. For the last month, I stopped tracking food, and did not continue to gain. I just lost and gained the same one pound over and over. But it was "nice" to have a break from tracking.

But today, I decided to try tracking food again and try being more careful of my choices. Some of my recent eating episodes did not leave me feeling so great. So even though I didn't gain weight, I felt it was time to make a change.

I wish us all luck!!!

I'm on Day 15-start your diet. Lunch was hard. I really had to remind myself to "say no to extra food". I wanted more and I'm not hungry. I know I will regret it later if I eat more.

So I am distracting myself by posting here! I can feel the desire to eat more beginning to wane. I think brushing my teeth will help or drinking some more water.

I weighed myself before breakfast and was down 1.5 pounds from last week so there is something to give myself credit for. I didn't eat the extra food so I am giving myself credit for that as well.

I know I will be happier next week if I don't eat that extra food. Plus I will be proud of myself, and rightly so.

I hope you are managing as well. No one said this was going to be easy. The more I practice doing it right, I will build up my resilience.

The desire to eat more food has abated finally! Thanks, fellow BDS team members for letting me share.
