I haven't been to a convention yet, but I am planning on going to one this summer with my family. I really want to dress up as a character, but still trying to decide who. Probably need to tone up first though since those suits don't hide anything!

I used to go to quite a few. Met many of the stars and even did the video thing in Florida once upon a time. Today we went to a small toy & collectible show in town. Really enjoyed the ST Experience in Vegas both times I went. Once I get settled in my new place I have to go thru my stuff...and I will have some of my wall decor up. When I used to go I was a Vulcan so you could have seen me in several different outfits. One of my favorite memories was Shore Leave. It was the year the first tree ornament came out and they asked me to pose by the table. I also got my picture taken with Nicole DeBoer once and that was in Starlog magazine.

We were the Gorn couple. My husband was the Elvis Gorn. It was our first convention and so much fun! We had so many high points. This year looks like a lot of fun as well, but we're having a baby Gorn about that time so we'll be home. Then back to my spark journey. :)
Sorry about the weird reactions from folks!

Sorry I did not reply sooner. I have been slacking in a big way. I was a TOS Orion. I wore the costume on Saturday morning for the costume record and went back to the room to take it off around 2 p.m. I didn't like the strange attention it brought...wierd reactions that made me feel uncomfortable. Oh, well, live and learn!
Were you the Gorn couple? I loved that costume!!!
I was asked to be one of Mudd's women this year by a friend, but finances are causing me to doubt if I can make it this year! We need to meet up if we both get there!
I have some friends that left Vegas headed for Dragon Con also! That must have been a blast!

How fun, Morgan! Go for it! Those TOS costumes are some of the best! I was a Gorn this year... but I think I'll move towards an Andorian in the future. Now if I can only get the antennas to move. :)

POECHI- I was at the Vegas con in 2010 too! Good fun :)
I went to Dragon*Con this year and had an awesome time. I'm definitely going back next year! I have dreams of making some elaborate TOS dress someday, maybe one of Mudd's Women. Maybe next year I'll be able to pull it off!

We go to Starcon in Denver occasionally. This last April we made it our 10th anniversary trip.
We don't really dress up. There's no costume that totally appeals to both me and my husband - though, he keps wanting me to get a TOS uniform...

Just putting the final touches on my Orion slave girl costume. I have the airbrush and the green body paint. The dress made, jewelry, and makeup ready. Shoes decided on. I think I am just going to spray my hair black instead of wearing a wig. So, its a go. I have less than a month to be psychologically ready to do this.

I was at the second Star Trek con ever held, the one that almost got shut down by the fire department of NYC because the tickets had been massively oversold. Being young and silly in those days, I was painted completely blue... I met my ex-husband at a Star Trek convention. We were both dressed as Klingons. We should have known... ah, well, I got a wonderful son out of it. Anyone know of cons or groups in lower New Hampshire?

I was at a Star Trek convention several years ago and met Patrick Stewart. I even presented him with a portrait drawing I had done called "the Three Faces of Picard" featuring him as the Captain, Locutus and Dixon Hill. It was pretty cool. The next convention I went to I met Nana Visitor from DS9 and got her autograph. She has a wicked sense of humour. Really wish I could get to more events. Hopefully this year we can make it to the convention in Vulcan, Alberta. If you haven't seen Vulcan...check this out www.vulcantourism.com/

So not a con, but I am going to W00tstock in 2 weeks! It's a 3 hour show of silly geekery, featuring Wil Wheaton and Adam Savage! Should be fun :)
I've never had the opportunity to go but I think the cons are such a terrific way to meet others with an interest in Star Trek in all its forms.

I love going to cons, and as you can see from my photo, yes I do dress up.
I have been going to them since 1985.
I try to hit Shoreleave every summer in Maryland.
I have seen the entire original cast, everyone from Next Gen but Wil Weaton and Colm Meany. All but Colm again from DS9.
Voyager I think everyone but Kate, and I am not sure about Enterprise. But I did meet Scott way back in 1988 when he was on Broadway in "Romance Romance"
I also volunteer at the New England Fan Experience (formerly United Fan Con) doing registration and running programming (usually fan panels)

I just attended my first con. I liked it! I've been to some academic conferences about SF with con flavor, but never an all-out fanorama. I joined in a Trek panel on time travel and I think I made sense, so hooray!
Unfortunately, I won't have time for another until at least next year. But I'm certain I will go to others.

My father and I went to several Conventions in Cleveland. I even got Patrick Steward's autograph. It is so wild to see people get so into it. The money spent. My dad and I would just get into discussions about the future and if such things could happen. I used to date a young man just out of high school and he got dressed up like spock right down to the ears. Made his own production company and one of his films were shown on tv during the breaks. LOL one of the skits someone beamed down into the body of a car! wild!

I live near Detroit and the convention would come here 2 times a year until trek was not as popular. Then the convention planners decided not to come any more about 2 years ago.
Before they stopped coming, we had the entire bridge crew from each of the series except McCoy. He had passed before I got on the scene.

I've always wanted to go to a Con. I was very young when we lived near a "Convention-Friendly" area. Now that I'm older (wiser) and can drive myself I might make an effort to go sometime. Do you guys enjoy them?
Good luck everyone!

Hey Crystal... I'm Klingon by nature, too I'm a member of the IKA, and we just signed an allied agreement with IKEF. I'm techincally a member of KAG, but I could never get in contact with anyone in my area, so I finally gave up, although I was published in Visions of Victory (major props to Major K'tallia sutai jechwI' for getting me my KAG membership, she's the only one who ever responded to me. BUT I'm happy in the Army, and I've made some awesome friends. We're small, comparitivelly, but growing, and we've got chapters all over the world, and a cyber division.
On another note... I'm heading to Un-con-ventional in Dayton in August, and to Marquis Gras in September, and then Starbase Indy in November. Anybody else hitting any? Those are all pretty cheap, $25-$40 for the weekend, plus cost of hotels. And Starbase Indy I live around the corner from, so I don't need one ;) Love to meet some of you there! I'm working on my costume now (OK so really I'm just researching it even MORE till I get some money on Friday... that's always my excuse). Gave up waiting on losing this weight, gonna have fun while there's fun to be had!!

Hi! Starfleet is a huge group, and what I get out of it is that each Chapter is always doing something. Like this upcoming weekend, in Dallas, there is a Regional Summit. Basically, a casual get together to discuss Star Trek.
If there isn't a chapter near you, there are Correspondence Chapters that are exclusively online. Also, some meeting chapters (those that do face to face events) don't mind members that don't live locally. The more fun people the better. And the good news is that you have a place to vacation and visit your friends.
I'll be forming a Chapter in Baton Rouge, LA by the end of summer. We welcome everyone, regardless of location. If you are a member of SFI, you can be a member of us. You just need to like sci fi. Easily enough?

SFI looks cool - they don't have a chapter in my state though.

Have you seen Bob O'Reilly and JG Hertzler together? They are so funny...such opposites. Can you tell me more about your Star Trek chapter and SFI? Honestly, the only group I've ever tried to affiliate myself with thus far is KAG & IKF. Klingon by nature.

Shore Leave rocks. Its like a three day party with guest stars. My husband and I used to go all the time before we moved. My former Star Trek chapter will be there in force this year, as they are one of the local SFI chapters. (If anyone wants info on them, PM me or post here)
On my agenda is BabelCon, which is featuring Bob O'Reilly (Gowron). Should be a lot of fun, and can't wait. Which is why I'm trying hard to lose weight. I love to get into my old Romulan garb and get my picture taken with that Klingon!
hugs, Trisha

I didn't know about either one of those cons! The only cons I have gone to are Slanted Fedora cons, but since the guy who did them is kinda in jail now, and his business is bankrupt, I haven't had a chance to go to one. The only ones I get wind of are Creation Entertainment cons, and they're so expensive!! Post some links, please!

I've done a Xena con, 2 X-Files cons (back in the day... heh), a couple anime cons, and even did Dragon*Con a few years back. I'm a cheapskate so I've never dressed up, but I loooooove seeing other folks in costumes. I'm always jealous of folks going to any cons because it's soooo much fun!

Yes, yes, I am jealous... super jealous... insanely jealous. LOL I think there are a few people from my fan group that are going. **sniff sniff** I wanna goooo!!!! If I had the money, I would, too **evil grin** leave the kiddos home with hubby and I'd be GONE :)

Two of my sisters are going to Shore Leave. I'm so bummed that I already had plans that weekend because I love Nichelle Nichols! Also Claudia Christian (Susan Ivanova from B5) is supposed to be there too.
I've actually never been to a Star Trek convention (but I have been to other cons).

Do you go? Do you dress up? What's your favorite? Who have you seen?
I have yet to get to go to one, although I was hoping to go to Shore Leave this year (Nichelle Nicholes and Peter David will be there... I SO WANNA GO!! ) I'm definately gonna try to hit Marquis Gras, though. Still working on my uniform.
