I am glad you enjoyed it. I will go see it early next week. I have other things to tend to fist. I did read some of the reviews. My hometown paper only gave it an 88. Metacritic I believe that site was called gave it a 90 overall.A few papers gave it a 100. So not too shabby.

Yep, 7pm! I've watched the trailers and clips many times. Probably will watch them in order today at some point. I'm heading over to my local theater around 5pm'ish. I've been waiting for this since ST:Enterprise went off the air.

Can't wait!
I'm starting to put together how I think the story line goes, based on the clips + some of the interviews (very telling was one of the Leonard Nimoy interviews).
Thursday 5/7 cannot get here fast enough!!

Hello all, I caught this at a special preview screening in London almost three weeks ago (I work in film post-production). I'm more an old school Trek fan (TOS and ST: 2,4&6, but I've enjoyed some TNG and DS9 eps) and I wasn't sure about this reboot before I went in -
But it's very good. Pretty action orientated, great cast, some funny moments and they do pay homage to the old series in many ways.
Great effects (space battles and aliens look great), editing and sound design (you'll recognise many old school blips and other sounds). Cast-wise, Kirk was fantastic as was Spock and McCoy - hell, Uhura and the others have more to do in this than the older versions ever did. But, as there are some changes - it may not be for everyone, but they work for me.
Not going to say more as I don't want to spoil it - but if you want to be then just drop me a sparkmail

Got mine last week. Two of my friends are joining me at the 7pm show on 5/7! As near as I can tell, this is the first time I've ever attended a premiere show for ANY movie (including Star Trek). Took 52 years, but this should be well worth it!

32 days and counting...I watch the latest trailer at least once a day to see if I see anything that I did not see the last time. I'm beginning to put some pieces together on the story line, so it'll be fun to see how close I am when the movie debuts.
I'm thinking I'll go see it the first time in a "conventional" theater and plan for the 2nd time at an IMAX theater (I have the feeling the IMAX theaters are going to be wild on opening night!). Plus, the nearest IMAX is 90 minutes away!

Now that I've seen the trailer, I'm really looking forward to it. Or have I just said that twice? Must be caught in a plot device, uh, I mean time warp.
Anyone remember the Star Trek parody on the original Saturday Night Live? "Plot complication coming up on screen now, Captain."

Me too. I'll be seeing only two movies next month. Of course Star Trek but also Angels and Demons. I have read the book. So I can't wait to see how Ron Howard made that movie. He did good with Davinci Code.

Star Trek gets a Sequel Greenlight By Rodney - March 31, 2009 - 05:14 America/Montreal
Star Trek is getting so much positive buzz lately that the powers that be are greenlighting a sequel before it even comes out.
Latino Review shares:
Story is still in the embryonic stage, but the trio are aiming to deliver their script to the Melrose studio by Christmas for what would likely be a summer 2011 release.
“There’s obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn’t even come out yet,” said Lindelof, co-creator with Abrams of ABC’s “Lost” who produced the upcoming “Trek” but did not contribute to Orci and Kurtzman’s screenplay. “But we’re so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed.”
As for potential storylines, Kurtzman stressed that the writing team will wait to take a cue from fan reaction about which direction to go.
This seems to be more the standard lately. Hollywood is willing to take the chance on a movie they already anticpate will rake in the coin instead of waiting til its over instead of getting around to it later when schedules work out causing a 4 year delay.
And I do like how they admit to be waiting for fan reaction. This is obviously the best way to handle the direction of the film but I hope they don’t let it railroad them. I imagine George Lucas quietly re-writing JarJar’s part in Attack of the Clones after the fan reaction.
But the slate will be clean, and they can do whatever they want with Trek now without having to resort to a team of consultants to make sure nothing conflicts. I hope that this movie lives up to its buzz, but I also wonder what they are going to call the sequel. Technically this is Star Trek 11, but its not. So will this be Star Trek 2.. again?
I say, BRING ON Now hows that for all those Trekkies out there?!

Lots of cool links - gotta check them out. Thanks for sharing them! I can't wait to see the new movie, more out of curiosity than anything. I grew up with TOS so it'll be interesting to see how this one meshes in the grand scheme of it all. Lorraine
