Hi...I am a little late posting on this chain but I have the same problem..I just started taking some digestive enzymes yesterday. So far, no change...guess I need to be patient and let it start working for me. I want to find a person I can talk to about natural options...anyone know how to find a reputable one? emoticon

Hi, I just found out I have Candida in my intestinal track and I am Hypo. I've always thought it was my thyroid acting up but I've found a new doc and said its Candida he ran a blood test for it. I have the budha belly, brain fog, mood swings, anxiety, and many other things. He said to take Floristor, cut sugar, processed foods, dairy, etc. It is hard but I think I am feeling better. Does anyone have anymore info and tips about Candida? Thanks!

It all depends, how old are you and if your in your mid 40's to 50's, many women going through Menopause usually wind up with large stomachs if they don't start watching their diets and exercising regularly! Also think back, Did your mother have the same problem? Sister's Aunts? it also can be inherited too?

But if it's a thyroid issue, then what everone keeps telling me is that your not getting the right dosage if your getting the correct amount then everything in your body should be normal. If you still have weight issues, then start checking your diet and exercise, Menopause, then Inherited issues.

Something to think about, I know, My Mom keeps reminding me that alot of my weight problems is Inherited, but I've not really been that Fat, I found Pictures of me when I was younger and I looked skinny! when at the time I thought I was fat? So if I was getting the right amount of meds then? There's hope that I can find that skinny person inside again!

I

Peggy

Thank you Scarkitty. :) Today I go to see my new ob/gyn and I hope she is kind and helpful, unlike the other one I had went to on 7/3 who was rude and frigid. I will pray that things work out and that she gives me some helpful input & info. Maybe I will eventually be able to conceive after I lose some of this weight. Hopefully I will find out if I am able to ovulate before I turn 35 on 9/21...that would be a great b-day gift! If not, then we will have to think of adoption.

I totally understand you and I am glad for your success. You must feel great and I hope you continue to see many more accomplishments & to reach any goals you may have. I am now feeling what you mentioned that you went through...the depression mode. I am feeling as if there is a grey cloud over me that I do not know how to get over and I am totally in fear of the unknown. I guess I am just depressed, but I guess I have to keep on praying and being positive.

I hope all goes well for you, Annakoukla! I had a bit of a long road, but I am starting to enjoy some success now. My energy levels are climbing every day. I'm back to exercising regularly. I've managed to start losing weight which, with subclinical hypothyroidism, didn't seem likely at first. But it seems that the weight I've lost has stayed off! I was also quite depressed before, and sometimes just not interested in anything. But now, I feel back to my old self again! Except for my extra pounds, of course :) Working on it!

I am doing quite well Melvinthegreat. How are you? I am still trying to get rid of this big stomach, but even when I lose weight, the stomach is still bigger than ever, still hangs & instead I lose weight elsewhere such as, my face, fingers, back side, etc. I despise when people always say, "Your face is so thin." I feel like saying, "Yes, I lost all my ten pounds there!" LOL! Anyway, thanks to Scarkitty, I will see if I can ask my new ob/gyn on Wed. if I possibly have that stomach candida yeast infection (I still do not know what that is) & also if I have metabolic syndrome. It sure sounds like I do. Perhaps there is a helium balloon inside my belly? Hmmm....

SCARKITTY, that is a good point - I neglected to mention that I also have had problems with subclinical hypothyroidism. I'm happy to update that my "Buddha Belly" has significantly decreased since I treated the candida yeast. My metabolism is up now too since I'm taking thyroid supplements (through my Naturopath). ANNAKOUKLA, how are you doing these days?

ok i did a little bit of research and found a couple things to think about.
Subclinical Hypothyroidism and Metabolic Syndrome
hypo can lead into metabolic disorder. Read here
thyroid.about.com/od/heartdisease/a/
me
tabolicsyn.htm

Also found a link with 6 steps to rid the belly.
zenhabits.net/2007/08/6-steps-to-los
e-
the-buddha-belly/

But over all i have been reading that this buddha belly is the first place to gain and the last place to lose it. Also heard cinnamon could help.
Not really sure tho.

No problem. You can also ask a doctor about yeast in your intestine (they can test for it), because it may be harder to get rid of than just taking acidopholus. But once it's gone, you can have sugar again without getting the stomach fat effect :)

I will have to try the acidophilus in either pill form or just by eating my yogurt (which I love), so that may help me. Thank you for the tip, I need to definitely stay away from sugar anyway. :)

I have had belly "fat" for a long time, and it got much worse at the end of last year. I finally found a wonderful naturopath, who confirmed my suspicions that I had an intestinal yeast infection. To get rid of it, I had to eliminate all sugar and potential sources of mould/yeast from my diet, take a supplement to kill off the yeast, and take acidopholus to replenish the good bacteria. Since then, my stomach has gone "back to normal".

I always gain weight on my belly first, and keep putting there along with all the other spots. I take a Pilate's class once a week and I've been doing it for over six months and my stomach has gone down. It is a little slower at taking the weight off, but the Pilate's helps me excel at other activities like running.

Hello, I just joined this team and wanted to mention that I have had a huge stomach for around 12 years, ever since I was put on prednisone for 1 year due to being hospitalized 3 times for asthma attacks. One year ago I was diagnosed w/hypothyroidism and even though I am losing weight slowly, I am very sad to see that I am losing weight everywhere but my large belly. The more I lose the bigger it looks and I do not know what to do. I exercise, but only for around 25-30 minutes, 6x/week, and I am quite nervous doing ab crunches and all abdominal exercises when I am at this heavy. I feel that it will not work and that I will be wasting my time. Does anyone have any exercise suggestions that are known to decrease a large stomach?

I don't have any pain in my belly. I just started spreading through the middle and when I buy a blouse to fit my shoulders, then I can't button the bottom buttons. I'm sure tired of it. I haven't even thought to ask my Dr. about it.
Anyone else know anything about this dilema?

Is there any pain in your tummy? Not to make you worry, but I saw a show about people with unusual symptoms and doctors just couldn't get the right diagnosis to accomodate their symptoms, and there was a lady with something that sounds similar to what you are describing. The only difference is she had pain when she exercised. Well, one day she did a sit-up and just couldn't believe the pain she endured from that sit-up. She got rushed to the emergency and it ended up being a large mass that ruptured. It had just been growing, and no doctor could seem to find out what it was (which I find really weird). It ended up being malignant, so she had to go through kemotherapy and whatnot, but she is fine now. I would really recommend going to a REALLY good, trusted doctor...I believe they found the mass with an MRI or CAT scan. Perhaps this should be done? I am NOT a professional or anything, and I am taking things that I saw on a TV show :P, so no need to worry...I just thought it was kinda odd how similar the situation seems to be with you and that lady.

Someone has to help us out here. My stomach is HUGE! Just last summer I lost 35 pounds and was so proud of myself. On labor day we went to the lake and took lots of pictures (my stomach was not big than) now less than a year later my stomach is huge. I look every bit of 3 to 4 months pregnant. I hate it! I had graves disease- took the RAO treatment twice and all seemed well. That was two years ago. Now for some unknown reason my stomach just keeps swelling up and out. I can't wear any of my clothes and when I go to buy new ones they don't fit right because of the belly problem. If anyone has any suggestions please advise, because right now nothing is working. I've cut back on carbs, calories, drank more water, tried the coconut oil, switched my medicine to evenings, but nothing works! I should also tell you I exercise like a mad woman in fact I'm training right now for my next triathlon which is July 26. I've always been very active.

Yeah LIFFY, my belly sticks out too! I just went to the doc, and forgot to ask him about this. I have been curious too. If I remember for the next visit, I'll let ya know. Good job on your weight loss so far. It really does inspire me.

I often wondered about the buddha belly syndrome myself, I started thickening up around the middle when I was in my mid forties and I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism when I was 45. I had never had that problem before, but I just figured it was peri menopause. I have been going to Weight Watchers, mostly to support my 18 yr. old daughter in her weightloss and because it is counting points, I eat a lot more carbs than I should because they are easy. I've lost six pounds is all and it has been five weeks, and that is very discouraging, but I guess every little bit counts. I am at 183 and two years ago I was 200. I lose weight better when I eat less carbs, so I am going to cut back on them and see if my weightloss speeds up.
At least now I know there is a reason why my tummy weight got out of control.
This disease is really a horrible affliction, but at least it isn't life threatening when treated properly.

My doctor tells me that the big belly is nicknamed "the Buddha Belly" and that it is one of the indications of Hypothyroidism. How to get rid of it? Unfortunately, I have no clue.

Wow, you've done great! Can you share what you've been doing to get the scale moving in the right direction? I don't know if it's just a female thing (the stomach) or if it has to do with being hypothyroid or even our hormones. I'm sure someone on the board will have some wisdom to share with you. Great job and much continued success!

I have hypothyroidism

I have started working out since Jan 15 I did weigh 173 pounds but now I'm @ 152 and counting. But my stomach is still big. It look like I'm about two months. I did look about 6 months. So, I guess I'm doing something right.
