So, my baby brother just got engaged and it's his fiancÚ's birthday today. We plan to party! My bro is an "outdoorsman" (kills stuff) so I believe it's shark steaks, red fish and roast pig (like really- half a pig) on the menu. There will also be party food. hmm. I should bring a salad. :)

Roast, mashed potatoes, and corn. That's for the hubby & kids. I will likely have leftovers from yesterday. I haven't been feeling well lately & have been eating lots of soup. Yesterday, my son & I made chili. It's nice & spicy & will help clear my sinuses. So, I will probably eat that. Though, I might have some of the mashed taters, too.

Today (Sunday) was our Labor Day cookout. We had brats, Italian sausage, hot dogs, baked beans, watermelon, corn on the cob, potato salad, and macaroni salad. Not the healthiest meal ever (no I did not eat some of everything). However, I made some food today for the rest of rest week: Italian beef, sliced roast beef & sliced ham (for sandwiches), and homemade tomato sauce to use for spaghetti or goulash later this week.

Thanks. The kids love to cook & bake, and I am thrilled about it. Not only is it nice to get a break from cooking a few times a week, but I also love the fact that they will be able to prepare healthy meals for themselves when they move out.

Athena ~ great idea having the children take turns cooking. My children aren't much for cooking, but they love baking.

Tonight I was in a rush and only my son was home for dinner tonight, so I made myself a lean pocket and sliced up a tomato and had an ounce of Colby jack cheese on the side. My son had two turkey sandwiches.

Michele, I also love breakfast for dinner, especially since I'm not big on eating in the morning. If we didn't do breakfast for dinner sometimes, I would almost never eat breakfast food.
The kids each make one meal a week. They choose what they want to cook, check the pantry, freezer, & fridge to see what we need, and add all needed ingredients to the grocery list. Then, they have to make the meal with as little help as possible. They have to choose stuff they can make with little to no help, because the point is for them to do it themselves. It's part of them learning to cook.

Today is my 15 year old's turn to cook. She chose skirt steak, baked potatoes, and fresh green bean salad.

My 9 year old made dinner with a little help from my 15 year old & a tiny bit of help from me. It wasn't the healthiest meal, but it wasn't too bad. We had bacon (only 3 slices each), sausage links (only 3 each), scrambled eggs, and waffles (from scratch). I was really good. I gave my husband & kids a little butter & a little maple syrup, but had only a little butter on my waffle.

Lasagna, caesar salad, green beans, french bread (daughter is coming home with friends and this is one of her favorite meals) Wish I could say it was a healthy version, but it's not. I will just make sure to be cautious of portion sizes and probably no bread.

Dinner tonight is a bit bigger & more decadent than a normal night because it is my husband's birthday dinner. Steaks & Juusto cheese on the grill, fresh fruit & veggie trays (plums, nectarines, grapes, cherries, green onions, carrots, green beans, and grape tomatoes) with dips (ranch dressing, bbq sauce, ginger mandarin dressing), baked brie with peach preserves & mandarin oranges with french bread. Dessert will be a banana pound cake.

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soups made from scratch with lots of garlic, onions, carrots, celery & curly noodles.
I also made sugarfree raspberry jello with sliced bananas.

We ended up having the fish tacos last night and they were really good! The homemade pico de gallo was excellent!

Tonight we are having Southwestern Chicken and Rice which is also from the Spark Solution book. Probably a salad on the side or fresh fruit.

Also, the inside-out burgers were different, but we really liked them. I've made them again and used sweet onion which was even better. I think the recipe is available here although it's from the Spark Solution book. I sliced the onion pretty thin so it would cook better (hubby and I don't like raw onions). Hubby has suggested cooking it a little before putting it into the patty so it will be more like a grilled onion inside.

Chevy's-celebrated my youngest daughter's BDay-Desireee will be 18 on 18th! emoticon
It was a once in a lifetime Celebration! emoticon

I didn't do too bad- Tex-Mex combo- enchilada & tamale, rice, black beans,water,ice tea-I ate almost zero sodium today, so I could go out!
As it was I came in over my sodium limit.- as you can see- I have the Giants (baseball 9-0) win over Padres today on my mind emoticon
