Hello Everyone!

How is your day today? We are having a snow day, and I am enjoying not having to go anywhere! A good day to read! I just finished The Giver Quartet this morning, and now I need to embrace the chance to get some exercise shoveling snow. I do not know what I will read next. I do not have either Incantation for this book club, or Rose Daughter for my other book club. Hmmmm... Maybe something non-fiction.

PEANUTSMOM96~ I struggle with that too. I have read the same articles that say you should only keep the sizes that fit you, but when I lost weight before, it was exciting to have the smaller clothes fit. I did not like a lot of them though, and ended up donating them. I lost 70 pounds before gaining most of it back. I got rid of all the larger clothes as I got smaller, and had to buy new ones as I got bigger again. Ugh! Some of the smaller clothes are beautiful, and I would love to wear them again, and though part of me appreciates the money already spent, part of me sees them as a source of failure. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I can put them in totes and store them in the attic. I do not lack space. I do believe that if we let things go that we do not need, what we do receive what we need.

IMHO - If you love the pieces or if they are currently in fashion, I would keep them. If they really aren't your style or you never liked the way they fit before, I would donate. I have 1 pair of jeans that aren't in style but I am keeping them just to see if I get back into that size again. They are the smallest pants I ever bought. Heck - that size isn't even the same size these days because they are so old but they are my goal pants for the moment. They will make a great Halloween Costume when I get there emoticon

Hey gang, I need some advice please. I'm going through my clothes and getting rid of (donating) things I no longer wear. I've come across quite a few items that are currently to small for me. Once I reach my goal weight I will fit them. Should I hold on to them for when I do or get rid of them and go shopping. I don't have much space in my small apartment and have less money to go shopping. I've read articles that say you should get rid of smaller stuff cuz it can be frustrating and be counterproductive to reaching goals. What say you? Keep or donate? What reasons are you considering?

69 hours without power, that's terrible.

We went 5 full days several years ago due to a summer storm a few years back. It inspired us to make a big purchase- a generator. Of course, since then the weather has been just fine, LOL.

Thanks for the tips on gardening. I don't have any where to plant things in the ground. I live in an apartment but I might be able to grow some in large pots.

emoticon Freespiritchild! I'm glad your power is back on! I have never been without for more than a few hours and even that was inconvenient. I can't imagine 69 hours! Good for you to get out with your dog in the midst of such a stressful situation. Thanks for joining our team~look forward to getting to know you.

Kelleyboo~There are lots of books on gardening! I have had some kind of garden for the past several years. It is very hit or miss for me. Some things work and some don't, but it's still fun to see little seeds turn into fruit/veggie bearing plants. I have some things in pots (peppers, herbs, strawberries) and the rest in raised beds that my husband built for me. I hope you'll try it next year~you may fall in love with it like me!

I have made it 3 days without sweets and feel so proud of myself! It's going to get a little more tricky because my daughter is coming down with a friend for the weekend. That means I will be baking cookies. I will just have to be strong! Also, we are helping with a miniature golf fundraiser tournament tomorrow night with a catered dinner/dessert. I know this is real life, but that's the problem~there are so many opportunities for treats every day! It really does come down to choices and I know that I can't choose to have a treat EVERY time and expect to lose weight. This week is to prove to myself that I can say no when I choose to.

Hello everyone! New here and thought I would hop in!

We finally got our power back yesterday after 69 hours without! Had a tropical storm (Arthur) blow through on Saturday and knocked almost everyone's power out! I am spending my day cleaning up, mainly in my kitchen, and cleaning out my fridge since most of our food went bad. I did steal a few minutes this morning before getting to work walking with my dog. T'was a much needed escape back in the woods behind our house and now I am feeling a bit more energized to tackle the task at hand!

Kelleyboo~Congrats on winning a book from your library! I didn't join in our summer reading program, but I should have. They do them for children and teens, too. My kids always did it when they were young~lots of fun and encourages reading :)

I am a little frustrated with myself because between vacation and then the 4th of July, I gained back almost everything I lost in June. My tracking has been very sporadic and so has my exercise. I have a sweets hangover and will be giving them up this week cold-turkey!

On a positive note, my little garden has given me beautiful carrots, green beans, snap peas and tomatoes. I also have 3 bell peppers and 2 cucumbers almost ready to harvest. My garden is very small, but it makes me so excited to see my little crop growing :)

Back to regular work schedule tomorrow (which for me is part-time~so blessed!). I will be getting back to weight watchers and back to checking in with you all here on SP, too.

Kimb3rl33~ emoticon emoticon So happy for you! Also, it's good to have you back! As far a gluten free, I don't personally have any recipes, but I see tons of great ideas on pinterest. Otherwise, I would just do an internet search. It's so common now that there are tons of resources out there. Good luck!

We are leaving this morning for our road trip up to Seattle/Lake Chelan. I'm very excited, but getting out the door is always a challenge. I am kinda freaky about having the house in order before we leave. It will be about a 7 hour drive today. We will pick up our daughter tomorrow and head to the lake, about 2 hours from Seattle. The weather is supposed to be nice, so I'm thankful for that. I have lots of healthy (and some not-so-healthy) snacks packed. I'm hoping I can talk my boys into listening to an audiobook, but they usually resist and we just listen to music which allows for talking.

Do you like road trips? What is your favorite way to pass the time?

Hi everyone! It's been a month, not proud of that but I'm back now. Just got back from vacation and I got engaged. Nothing like a ring to remind you its time to get motivated! I started working out early in the morning to accommodate my two jobs. I also am on a two week trial of gluten free because I have all the symptoms of gluten sensitivity. It's only day one but I hope to notice positive changes.

Michelle your vacation sounds so fun! I've always wanted to visit the area.

Anyone have any gluten free recipes you've tried? I could use some ideas. Have a great day!

It's a beautiful day here in Southern Oregon! Yesterday it rained and today everything looks so bright and happy. This morning I will be going out on the golf course with my hubby~I will not be playing golf, but just walk around with him and enjoy the time together.

Later today, I am going to be making my list for our vacation~a road trip to Seattle and Lake Chelan. I want to make/pack some healthy road snacks and also food for our 4 days at the lake where we will have our own kitchen. I also want to sit outside and finish my book~I'm 91% thorough it. Then I will be starting one of our monthly reads Calling Me Home.

What do you have going on this weekend? Any fun vacations coming up this summer?

WooHoo! It's Friday! I had my official weigh in this morning at Weight Watchers and it was nice to have a loss after a small gain last week. I got in a little exercise this last week, but I think my food choices are what really made the difference. If I could just sync up the diet and exercise, I would probably make my goal weight!

Finished 2 books and close to finishing another. If you haven't picked up The Rosie Project yet, it is a quick, fun read! It also happens to be one of the books we are discussing this month :)

Hi Book Club!

I am officially on vacation although we aren't leaving until next week. My son is finishing up his finals this week and then we are heading up to Washington to pick up our daughter for a 4-day trip to Lake Chelan. We have never been there so we are looking forward to a fun family adventure!

For the rest of the week, I will be getting the yard in shape and doing all the chores that need to get done before leaving town. I'm hoping to finish a couple books, too :)

Good morning! I hope everyone is enjoying the Memorial Day weekend. We didn't make any plans, but it's been nice to have the extra time to get some things done around the house. Today my husband will be going to his family's graveside to do some maintenance around it. I will be going with my mom to my dad's graveside at the VA cemetery. It always brings tears to my eyes when I see all the flags and realize that everyone there served our country to give us the freedom we have.

I've been doing pretty well with my food choices~still tracking with WW points and it seems to be working for me. Exercise is still hit or miss. It has been worse this past week as I am having some symptoms of plantar fasciitis on my left foot. I also got stung by a bee on a toe on my right foot and it is swollen and itchy.

I'm looking forward to some time this afternoon to sit in the sun and read. I am trying to finish up several books right now. I don't know why I read so many at one time...I think it started with having so many to choose from on my kindle and now it's a habit.

Kimberlee~It's so good to see you here! I was just on my goodreads and your name pops up there, too :) I can completely relate to being thrown off your routine. My daughter was home for just 4 days and it totally derailed me from everything! I am still struggling to get back on track. Tomorrow is my WW meeting, so that should help get me focused. Hopefully once your mom is settled in, you can make a routine around your new work schedule. You definitely need to get some good shoes to help your feet, too. I am ready for some new work shoes, too. Not a fun way to spend money, but so important. Glad you like your new job and you're getting some nice weather.

Today I went into work for a few hours to cover a co-worker who had to take her mom to the Dr. I walked to and from work, but that's the only exercise I did today. My hubby came home early and we separated some plants in our yard to take over to my mom's house to plant in one of her flower beds. Every year for mother's day, I plant a bed with flowers, but this year she requested some of the perennials from my yard instead of annuals. They should do well, but it's been a little warm here and I'm afraid they might not make it.

I am going to make a menu tonight or tomorrow morning and go grocery shopping after my WW meeting. I think I need to make an exercise menu to follow, too~lol!

I haven't been doing the best! These last two weeks have been so hectic. My mom moved in with me until the first of the year, and I started a second job. I am completely out of my routine..so i haven't been exercising or tracking. I've also been working in a different area at work and it's really killing my super flat feet. I am really hoping I can get back into my routine, because I feel awful!

On a lighter note, I do like my second job even though I'm completely exhausted! The weather has also finally warmed up so that has been great.

Hope you have all had a great Wednesday! I was supposed to work, but got called off because it wasn't busy enough. Since I work in short stay surgery, I guess it's a good thing that there aren't a ton of people having surgery :)

I ended up doing some yard work which is never ending. I read in the sun for awhile and now I am getting ready to head out to meet some girls from work for a get together.

Food has been going pretty well~I'm tracking consistently with WW points and exercise is ok. I still need to push myself to do more.

Michelelynn, so good to hear from you! I have been baaaaaaaad with sweets lately - have had birthdays and holidays with temptations galore. I have to admit that I gave in more than a little! We have another birthday this evening (my little Lola is one today - I can't believe it!). I'm sure I'll partake of the dessert. I'm going to get in a workout to compensate a little for the extra calories. How wonderful that you and your mom are tackling the picture project together. Good Morning! I'm sorry I haven't been very active here lately, but I am so happy to read all of your posts and see great things going on with you all. Luvinpurple's weight loss, Steph's dreadlocks and vacation plans, Stoneyhillmom's good news about test results and advocating reading in the school libraries, Shesmith's continual encouragement to our team members and Kimberlee's upcoming vacation from work. Lots going on with everyone!

Have had a couple blips this week with food choices~craving sweets/carbs and finally gave in a little. I tracked most days and will see the fall out on my weigh in on Friday. I am going to get a work out in this morning and meeting my mom later to organize pictures. It's much more fun to have someone else with me during this overwhelming project. My mom is scanning old slides into her computer, so we are motivating each other.

Hi everyone! It's been a bit. I was trying to catch up on what everyone said, saw some weight loss (congrats!) and I felt sad reading about the current state of our education system and their unwillingness to foster the love of reading. It is a shame that technology is just crushing that part of our society. I rarely see a young person who loves to read anymore and that is just so sad!

Steph- I really like your dreads! I have always thought they were gorgeous! Way to go on taking a step to do something you wanted!

As for me, I'm just anxiously awaiting my vacation from work the second week of June. I'm not going anywhere this year due to finances, but I'm happy to just have a week to do what I want. By then the farmer's market will be back & it will be nice out so I plan to spend some time at my mom's back porch reading & taking trips in town. Most importantly, I'm going to relax!

Changed my profile pic so you can see the dreads. I added more photos on my spark page so you can see them there. I am really liking the dreads. I wake up and my hair is done. I agree with Steph, Stoneyhillmom, stay on the soap box! I have friends who teach elementary school who are appalled at the current mandatory reading curriculum. Keep preaching, sister!

We leave in 17 days on vacation and I am counting down! Not for sure if I will reach my weight goal, but I am ok with that. I feel good and know I am healthier. And that is my #1 goal. After vacation I am joining weight watchers for some real accountability. Loved it a few years ago, Then I got a big head and thought I can do this all by myself. Not the case for me.

I got dreads over the weekend and I love it. I have always wanted them. So I finally said why not! Its amazing how eating healthy and working out can give you the boost of confidence you need to do something wild emoticon

Can it really be Monday again? Well, at least it is a 4 day week! Hope everyone is well and staying motivated. My test results were "basically normal" which (I think) is a good thing. (I really hate ambiguous words like "basically".) Anyway, that part is a relief, but the issues that sent me in the first place still remain. So on to medication to regulate things. Ugh. Or, I guess, yay!

Otherwise, life goes on. Last week was our statewide librarian convention. It made me want to read, read, read! At the same time, it was worrisome because of the way teaching technology is taking over what school librarians are expected to do. We don't teach reading or the love of reading anymore, and with more and more rigorous state testing, no one has the time or energy to encourage reading for its own sake.

Happy Monday everyone! Hope everyone is doing well. I am looking forward to this week because it is the last one before my coworker comes back from maternity leave and I can go back to my regular schedule. Yay!

I weighed in yesterday for my first week on Weight Watchers at 301.6 and had lost 8.4 lbs!!
Today, I weighed in for another team at 298.4! Even better. This is the first time I have been below the 300 mark in probably two or three years. Now I just need to keep it off. I'm finding I have no energy to exercise and I really want to. I started out going strong, but lately I've lost it. Of course, it could just be that I'm tired maybe. End of semester is here and I have a million things to do. Plus, I'm working more hours.

Long week of struggling with my allergies and birthdays at work. I ate cake & pie! It was not my best diet week. But, I'm on track now, and work is birthday free for a while now! It's finally a spring day here, it's beautiful out which has given me some much needed motivation.

Luvinpurple - Good luck with your school work! I just graduated, I was also working full time and going to school full time. It was hectic and a struggle, but now that I'm done honestly I'm not sure what to do with my time! lol It is nice though that I can read for enjoyment now, not for work. :) Also congrats on your weight loss! That is a great amount of loss for such a short time!!

Hi, everyone! Life is crazy busy right now with the end of the semester coming up. I have a test for my online class that I have to take by Sunday at midnight and another one that starts next week. I've gotten behind in my reading, too, so looks like I will be cramming this weekend. I don't want to lose my A's, though. It's no fun reading college textbooks, even when you like the topic. I open my book and a few pages later I want to close my eyes. Working full-time and going to college full-time isn't as easy as people think, especially when you aren't as young as you used to be. :)

I'm doing well with my weight loss, though. I have been struggling for a long time to get below the 300 mark and I am so close. Today the scale said 300.6. I got really close in February and got to 301, but then gained. I'm doing Weight Watchers now, though, and I think that is helping. February 1st I was weighing 314 so I think it's an improvement and I'm excited about that!

I still want to read Dreamers of the Day and Divergent and I had planned on reading them this month. Unfortunately, college has gotten in the way. I need to clone myself so I will have time to spend hours reading leisurely!

Stoneyhillmom, I hope the test results come back good. My doctor tried to do one of those tests in the office one day when I came in for a routine visit and I nearly passed out. The called it vasogil or something symptoms. I never can say it right. guess it's cause I have no pain tolerance. She said that 1% of the population get those symptoms. It was horrible. I'm glad you were able to handle yours. I've heard they sometimes can prescrible 1 Valium pill to give patients before the procedure to help with the pain. Ha! I don't think the Valium would have helped me. Heck, they had to do an IUD insertion in the operating room and then had to take it out the next day due to complications because I was in so much pain. My aunt always tells me I would never survive childbirth.

Good morning, everyone! I am so happy to see the activity here! I can't believe how quickly the weekend has gone by, but I am going to enjoy today and gear up for the week ahead. My hubby is out of town on business right now, so I have had a lot more time for reading and watching shows and movies he doesn't particularly care for. I did get some of my seeds planted~snow and snap peas, lettuce, carrots, radishes. I've never grown carrots or radishes and have rarely started my garden from seed, so we'll see how it goes.

Luvinpurple~I agree that it's important to find what you will love to do. It sounds like you are passionate about helping children which is so admirable. Hope your mood has improved and you are feeling better.

Steph~So happy that your son did so well in his track meet! It's so fun to watch kids excel at something they are working at :)

Shesmith~Good for you signing up for a trainer~that will definitely motivate you! Don't be too jealous of my garden as it's fairly small and usually my snap peas and lettuce are the only things that grow~lol!

Stoneyhillmom~Thanks for updating us on your test results. Continued prayers for the biopsy results. I'm jealous of the sunshine as we've had clouds and rain. I think it's supposed to be nice today or tomorrow, though :)

I had a Kindle credit too, apparently it's from a lawsuit they were involved in for the way the amount they charge customers for e-books. Doesn't matter to me, I'll take the free book money! haha

Hello all,
Many, many thanks for all the prayers and kind words. Yesterday I had a sonogram which then led to an "endometrial biopsy". This was at least as much fun as it sounds emoticon I am now waiting on results. Dr is optimistic that it is not serious, so I am trying to take the same approach and just be thankful that I have a thorough, cautious dr. I must say that sonograms are much more fun when one is pregnant than when drs are looking for what's wrong. Ugh.

Got an email from Amazon today that I have $2.50 in Kindle credit. Woo hoo! Have no idea how I got it but I have been happily shopping for a new read :) Haven't settled on one yet, though.

Looking forward to a beautiful weekend here. Hopefully you all will have a good one too :)

Hi, everyone!

I'm tired and grumpy today. Night before last I forgot to take my sleep meds until 1:30am. Well, then I didn't fall asleep until after 3am because they take awhile to kick in for me. I thought being cranky yesterday was because of a lack of sleep. Then, last night I sleep like nine hours and even took an 1 1/2 nap this afternoon. And, I'm still cranky and tired.

So....that's me today! I hope everyone else is having a better day. I will write more another day when I don't feel like yelling at everyone! :)

Michele, I so envy your garden spot! I wish I had a sunny patch of land to toil. I'll just keep visiting the farmers' markets for my goodies, jealous of every vendor there.

It's interesting how so many of us have hopped on the accountability boat. I just met with a personal trainer on Monday and told him "I need accountability!" I can only afford to see him 30 mins every other week. I think that will help hold me to more consistency with my exercise - knowing he will be measuring my progress.

Thanks for asking about the track meet Michele......It went great my son got first in the 200m and 4x100m relay. And 2nd in the 4x400m relay. It was the first time he ran the 200m so very happy for him. His time was 26.3 secs.

Luvinpurple sounds like you are making your life the way you want it and that is so important. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Children need a dedicated loving person like you in their corner. I would want to just take them all home with me.

Stoneyhillmom prayers lifted up for you. I find that I struggle more with eating healthy and exercise when I am focused on how I want to look or be a certain size. Every day I have to change the way I use to think. Now I eat whole foods and exercise so I can feel young and be able to move when I am 80.

I did weight watchers about 5 years ago and loved it. I went to the meeting and weighed in every week. great accountability!!!!!!!! A few years ago I did the online only and I didnt have the success I did when I went to the meeting. I need the accountability of knowing I am going to weigh in and someone is going to record it! I am going to check and see if they have meetings around here

Yes, thank you! I just replied to your message.

My major is Family & Child Studies and a minor Psychology. I'm just barely a Sophomore and I'll be 35 in June. It's taken me this long to figure out what I want to do. I would like to get my Bachelor's and then go to grad school for my couseling degree. I want to work with children who have been abused. I'm interesting in something along the lines of child psychologist, child advocate, or something like that. I'm not real sure about that part. But, children are my passion!

The last couple semesters I was studying Sociology and I wasn't doing so well. Now that I have changed my major I have straight A's for the first time ever. And, that even includes a math class!

I think it's very important that you find your goal or purpose in life. There is something that everyone is meant to do. I think this is it for me and now everything is starting to fall into place!!

Stoneyhillmom~Glad you are still here checking in when you can. I totally get the "just wanting the cookies" thing. It doesn't help that my hubby loves me just the way I am and really only cares about me losing weight because I care. For me, I know that I feel so much better when I am eating healthy and getting some kind of exercise. But trust me, I HAVE to allow myself treats or I will end up binge-eating. Yesterday at work, there was homemade cake for someone's birthday. I usually pass, but it looked soooo good that I had a piece instead of my lunch. Then had my healthy afternoon snack and a light dinner. All in moderation :)

Hubby was home from work today and we ran all kinds of errands. We also have the garden beds ready for me to plant. I will do that tomorrow or the next day.

Hello all! I'm back...again...actually, I never completely went away :) This is one of only 2 or 3 threads I read but, like others have said, I don't actually post much.

I am having lots of frustration with exercise and weight related issues. For now, I have sorta quit trying. Just don't know how I can make the kind of life changes I would need to make to see lasting change. Maybe I just want to have the cookies. :(

Goodreads is awesome! I love, love, love it. You don't have to even review what you read if you don't want to; it's just fun to read the honest opinions of others who really care about reading. If you can get your friends on there, it's even better.

I have at least one medical diagnostic procedure happening tomorrow morning (a female issue) that I am stressing about a little tonight. If any of you could keep me in your prayers tonight I would be grateful.

I used to do Weight Watchers and had thought about starting again, but couldn't quite figure out how to track my points here on SP. Do you track on here, their website, or manually written down? I don't really want to spend the money for their website like I did last year. I can't really afford it right now. But, I already have the books from where I used WW a year or so ago. I lose about 60 lbs when I was on it in 2003. I didn't stick with it for long when I used it last year, though. It had changed a lot in a decade, though. Plus, I was doing the WW @ Work program back then so I had all my co-workers to be accountable for.

Good luck to you!! I think the meetings and the weigh-ins do help.

Hello! It's April Fool's Day and it's been quite the day for me here in Oklahoma. First of all, it was supposed to be 80 degrees today and I was looking forward to wearing by capri's and flip flops, but when I got up this morning it didn't feel so warm inside my house. I opted for a pair of jeans, tee shirt, my cardigan, and sneakers. I think it was might have been 50 degrees when I left the house at 9:45!!! I had to go meet with my advisor to schedule my summer and fall classes and then meet with financial aid. To make a long story short, it was a walk across campus (about a mile there and back I think) in the crazy wind for no reason because the Financial Aid department have no idea what they are doing. I have to wait until my application gets approved to find out if I will have enough money for my summer classes when they told me last week to come to their office to find out after I scheduled my classes. This is not the first college I have been to. I'm nearly 35 years old. I have never had so many problems just trying to get scheduled for classes. My very first appointment a couple years ago I was so frustrated with them that I left crying and on the verge of a panic attack. It shouldn't be so difficult. So it's been a crazy day! The only good thing was all the exercise I got!!

Then, it was voting day! I had never been to my polling place since I voted for the main election at the courthouse. It was at the Nazarene church and the main doors were locked. So, I went downtown to the court house hoping to vote there. Oh, no....you have to go around to the back alley and there is a building back there behind the church that you vote in. Really? They should put a sign on the main doors or something. But, voting today had to do with the school system and giving them money for new buses, equipment, and other things they need. So it was important!

Thanks for letting me rant! I am looking forward to some down time tonight as I start reading Divergent. I downloaded the series to my Kindle the other night.

We were just in Arkansas this weekend. Had to take the step kids back home emoticon

I also use Goodreads. I find the reviews to be right on for the most part. I have a goal to read 50 books this year. And it keeps track for me. It let me know I am 4 books behind schedule this morning.

Happy April, everyone!

I haven't checked in lately as things have been busy around here and I haven't been online as much. Like Sherri, I do try to read the thread, but just don't have the time to post a response. It's nice to see some new people joining in :)

I made a decision almost 2 weeks ago to go back to Weight Watchers. I haven't been in over 2 years when I started SP. I LOVE SP and the encouragement of my spark friends, but I finally realized I need the physical accountability of a weekly weigh in and group discussion. I won't be giving up SP, but I'm switching back to tracking with WW points instead of calories~it's a little tedious right now, but I lost almost 2 lbs the first week. I may finally get off this plateau I've been on for over a year of gaining and losing the same few pounds.

I made my goals for April and I'm pushing for a better month than I had in March. Really going to increase the exercise which was severely lacking last month. What do you hope to accomplish this month? Consider joining the April challenge for accountability :)

I just arrived at DH's apartment in Arkansas. We close on our house tomorrow and then I head back home (5.5 hour drive) to care for the pets (boy next door cares for them tonight). I'll be glad when this move is done!! We are too old for this kind of chaos!!! So right now I'm resting on the couch listening to the rain and thunder, thankful that DH doesn't have to stay in this tiny furnished apartment too much longer! I know he's been missing home and we'll soon be making our new home here.

I finished listening to one of my audio books on the drive up and thankfully remembered to download two more from the library, so started one of them. I have an Audible subscription and quite a few books to listen to, but am taking advantage of the library while I can. Once we move, I'm afraid not sure how much longer I'll be able to use that option. The library where we are moving does not have the online capabilities, being a small town.

LuvinPurple- I use goodreads on my ipad to track my books. Their app is really nice and easy to use. It also lets me keep a list of books I want to read. I tend to have a bit of an addiction to buying books, plus I get a newsletter with free books from BookBub and while the majority are not books I'm interested in, I manage to acquire many free books. I have about 80 just waiting for me to read lol. Glad to have you in the daily chat thread too by the way!

It's nice out here today, supposed to be in the upper 50s and it's sunny. However, I'm very dizzy today because my sinuses are acting up so I'm not enjoying it too much today!

Currently I'm a bit bummed because my Keurig needs a new coffee filter & my coffee is horrible! Not a huge tragedy, but I love my after work cup!

How is everyone's week going? Any fun plans for the weekend?

Hi, all! Today is a cool, rainy, and dreary day. It's the kind of day that I would like to stay in bed and curl up with my Kindle and my dog, Murphy. However, duty calls. Class at 11am (Math: Probability and Statistics today) and work from 330pm - 830pm. Gotta make the big bucks (Ha!). I'm new here and this is my first post in this thread. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and to start reading some great books, too.

How do you manage the books you read? Do you keep a list? I know some of you use Goodreads. Are there any other apps for your phone or maybe Kindle, or even online, that you use to keep track of the books you read each month. Or, do you keep track of them?

I'm hoping this is our last cold spell. Got down to the upper 30's. We had brisk winds yesterday, highs in the low 60's. I took a walk and the winds made my nose run! We have a lot of pollen in the air and it sets my allergies off, although not too much, my car however looks more yellow than silver...and the Maple tree in my yard....all those seed things have been blowing all over my yard and patio and carport and coming into my house. They do look pretty flying in the breeze like helicopter wings!

Supposed to be back in the 70's tomorrow. Up and down the temps have been.

I woke up to some snow yesterday emoticon

I cant wait to write clear,sunny, 85 out..................
Started to feel stuffy yesterday morning, but I got my all my workouts in. Of course before bed here comes the stuffy nose with it running at the same time. UGH

I am covered in essential oils and plan on taking a nap today! Fingers crossed I keep this to myself and no one else will get it.

Debating on if I will do some cardio today. Anyone workout when under the weather?

Hi, All!

I love this thread. I always read it, but seldomly contribute - time issues....

I've enjoyed reading about the various weather patterns of this great nation of ours. Here in the piedmont of NC, we go from barefoot days to snow boots. 70's one day, snow the next! I like it, though. Too often we seem to have 2 seasons (hot and cold) instead of 4 - I prefer 4!

My husband and I just returned from another weekend at the beach. We've been doing yardwork (cleaning up after a nor'easter) and painting. We will go again Memorial Day weekend, and then will probably not go until Labor Day weekend. We leave the summer to the "next generation" who can only go when school is out (and who don't mind the heat - been there, done that!). We may sneak in some one day trips for sailing here and there, but nothing extended between May and September. Hard to believe I used to spend the summers down there. A peek in the mirror at my weathered skin reminds me, unfortunately :( Those were the days of "Professional Level Hawaiian Tropic Tanning Oil" versus "SPF 50" , hats and umbrellas!

Let's hang in there for warm weather! Have a great week~

Good Morning!

Church this morning and then meeting all the in-laws for brunch to celebrate brother/sister-in-law's 29th anniversary. We still have some work to do in the yard, but my back is a little sore from yesterday, so will have to take it easy. The rain is coming tomorrow, so we have to get it done!

Update~I did not have popcorn at the movies last night! VICTORY!

Happy Saturday!

After reading the posts about people still being stuck in winter-mode, I feel a little bad posting about the sunny days we've been having~lol! But don't feel too jealous because these are what I call "teaser days". We get them throughout the spring interspersed with cold, rainy days. In fact, we are headed for rain by Monday which will continue most of the week. Also, even though it's sunny, it's still a little chilly into the 60's~definitely not summer!

I have been cleaning out my pantry and will continue with that a little today. It's quite a project! When I say pantry, I mean all my cupboards that have food items in them. I am taking everything out, wiping down the shelves, putting a liner down and re-organizing. I have had to do this is phases or it's just too overwhelming. I will be so happy to have it completed! We also have some work to do in the yard. Well, hubby will do most of it since it involves shoveling/moving dirt around~lol! I will mostly be pulling weeds and pruning where needed.

Then we're going to the movies for date night. I'm battling with myself right now over the popcorn issue. I LOVE movie popcorn, but I KNOW it's not healthy. I could bring my own from home, but it's just not the same. To splurge or not to splurge? I've been doing so good all week, I don't want to blow it. I have to determine my path before I go, so I will be debating the issue with myself all day~lol!

All this talk of spring is making me jealous! We are still in the phase of the year where it's spring about one day a week then cold & gross the rest of the time! No sign of green or life anywhere yet! I'd just about kill for some leaves & flowers!

Glad to read everyone's posts and see that you're doing well & making choices that you can maintain. That is a tough lesson I've been learning. It's so tempting to jump to whatever diet seems to be working for someone else, and I am sooo guilty of this. However, I've made the effort to stick with what I can manage everyday and that's to eat within my calories, make smarter choices, and exercise everyday. It seems to be working!!

Going to spend the day cleaning house, at least it will be ready for spring!

Michele ~ I envy you that you are going to get in a long walk today and enjoy the beauty of mother nature. Enjoy your day off! Unfortunately, the east coast weather hasn't been very cooperative. After lots of snow, snow, snow, we are now getting lots of rain. Not such a bad thing because it washed all the snow away. Unfortunately, we are now surrounded by lots of mud. lol Looking forward to some warmer, sunnier days so that I can start walking my pups again. My daughter and I are making healthy choices together and supporting one another. It is good to have a buddy system. Helps me a lot.

Steph~Congrats on the 8 lb weight loss! I have wanted to read Tosca Reno's clean eating book and now I will definitely check it out. I agree that it is a way of life whatever plan we decide to follow. It can't just be a temporary "diet" or we will just end up where we started. Have fun with all the kids' activities~I remember the days of feeling like a taxi driver :)

I am off work today~aaahhh! I met my friend for coffee this morning and now I'm back home catching up on my computer life. My hubby will be home early and we are going to take a LONG walk on one of our favorite routes (about 6 miles). The weather is so beautiful~blossoms are out on the trees and the daffodils are popping up their yellow heads of sunshine all over people's yards. I LOVE spring!

What is your favorite season? I appreciate all the seasons, but the promise of new life in Spring brings me so much joy :)

Sounds like everyone is excited for spring with all the cleaning going on! I need to do some spring cleaning, Maybe next week.

We are in full swing with track and softball right now. I am really thinking about putting a taxi sign on the side of our car. LOL I have been really focused on eating right and my workouts. I have lost 8 lbs so far. I am following the eat-clean diet by Tosca Reno. ( just a side note I hate the word diet, I plan on eating like this for my life time) The author Tosca did not get healthy till her 40's. I just learned a lot from the book. And she makes it simple.

Kimb3rl33~Good for you getting your spring cleaning done! I have great intentions, but never quite get it all done. We have lived in our house for 18 years and are in the process of de-cluttering different areas to get organized. It makes for an on-going project!

I did ok this past week, but it's time for a serious push. I haven't tracked the past several days. I'm not sure why I'm not consistent with the tracking since it really keeps me accountable. I guess that's why I don't do it~I don't want to see how many calories a particular treat adds. My exercise has been sporadic, but not non-existent. I am not seeing the scale move when I am consistent and I get frustrated and get rebellious. I KNOW I just have to keep making my healthy choices and the rebellion will only make it worse, but sometimes I just don't want this to be my issue. Then, I come to my senses and get myself going again. That's where I am today :)

Your garden sounds amazing! I am currently stuck in apartment loving so no garden for me, but as soon as I can get a house I would love to have a small one to grow my own veggies.

I've been busy spring cleaning this week, but I'm still tracking and exercising. Sadly not a lot of weight loss to report. I was hoping to shed a few for my Monday weigh in at work. But not all weeks can be winners! On the upside I only have two rooms left to spring clean then the house will be finished!

I'm glad you are getting back on track. I understand only too well how the stresses of life can derail you. One day at a time to take care of YOU!

I am home this morning and then a meeting at work this afternoon. I have been busy and distracted by outside obligations, but I am still tracking and trying to get in my exercise. I am hoping to catch up with everyone tomorrow when I have a day off :)

I am so ready for spring and getting in the yard to plant my flowers and my garden. My garden is pretty small, but I plant just the things we really love~lettuce, zucchini, tomatoes, strawberries, herbs, snap peas. Do you plant a garden at your house? What do you like to grow?

Kimb3rl33, I prepared the talapia with veggies last night - dee-licious! I sauteed onions, then added yellow and zucchini squash, fresh red pepper and garlic. After the squash was softened, I laid the seasoned fish on top of the veggies - throwing some spinach chiffonade on top - and covered the pan, allowing the talapia to steam to doneness. So yummy! Thanks for sharing your idea. It is definitely going in the rotation!

I'm definitely motivated, I'm so tired of no progress. I changed up my workout routine & I'm doing a different interval workout on the treadmill everyday. Hopefully this change in routine will help. Plus I love these workouts because they count down the thirty minutes and I like to see the minutes go away!

Good Morning Book Club!

I've been very busy lately and although I haven't been as active here, I haven't given up! I am excited about our March challenge as my mantra for the month is "MOTIVATED". I am ready to feel good and that means regular exercise and *mostly* healthy choices. I have tracked the last 3 days and doing pretty well. I made some goals for the month, but haven't posted them in a blog yet. I thought I would be better about blogging this year, but apparently not.

How about you? Are you motivated for March? Join in our monthly challenge and keep yourself accountable to healthy choices.

P.S. I loved the discussion about fish recipes~I am not a huge fan of fish, but I will have to give your recipes a try :)

Thanks for all the fish talk lady's. I tried a new recipe yesterday. Take some foil , add tilapia, with whatever vegs you want and some coconut oil, and some meat seasoning. Wrap it up cook it in the oven. I ate it it right out of the foil. No dirty dishes LOL

I sautee the onions, garlic, and veggies for about five minutes and then I add the fillet and continue cooking until the fish is done. :)

Kimb3rlee, that talapia dish sounds great! Do you cook the onions and garlic prior to adding the fish? Do you keep the fish whole (fillet), or chop it up with the vegetables?

This is a pretty delayed response, but I like to sear tilapia with garlic, onions, and olive oil. I serve it with grilled zucchini & squash & brown rice. It's actually really flavorful.

Thanks lady's for answering my fish question. I like spicy foods also. Today I used ground up red peppers and some coconut oil. turned out good! emoticon I looked through some of the recipes they have on here. Have a few to try out. Plan on getting some of the cajun seasoning!

Steph, we eat a lot of tilapia at our house because it is often on sale. We like spicy food, so usually I just blacken it and sear it in the skillet with just enough olive oil to keep it from sticking. I use a pre-mixed cajun blackening from the grocery store.
I have also coated it in panko crumbs with lemon zest mixed in, and then squirted the lemon juice on just before serving.

We try to eat salmon twice a week, too, for the omega-3's. I have several recipes for salmon that I swap out from week-to-week. However, once a week, I just sear it (s&p) and put it over a big salad of arugula, some fruit (either dried or fresh - depending on season), some edamame, shredded carrots, celery, etc - whatever's in the fridge.

I've learned to really like fish. I didn't until just a few years ago. I like to try recipes from foodnetwork.com.

Anyone have a good fish recipe. Baked or on the skillet. I am trying to eat fish for lunch. Trying to increase my protein intake.

Yesterday I cooked tilapia on the skillet and mixed it in with broccoli and rice. And it was gross I had to add some tartar sauce to give it taste.( I didnt want the extra fat from that) Adding some lemon was an after thought. I have some seasoning salt I like but trying to eliminate sodium as much as possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I probably got my copy of 30 Day Shred at Wal-Mart as well. I'm sure they sell it at Target, too. @ KIMB3RL33 I have very flat feet also. The five finger toe shoes actually help you to correct your feet. By having your toes straighten out it makes you walk correctly. Kinda like when you have a straight back you walk correct and have no pain. I use to have severe knee pain when running. Since my toe shoes my pain is very minimal. It only hurts in my right knee. But I think that is a knee issue. I have worn toe shoes for 5 years. I love them!

@ MICHELELYNN777 - Arizona sounds so amazing right now! I am soooo over being cold! I'm looking for work & I'm trying to remain realistic with places both me & my boyfriend will be happy, but the colder it gets the more I'm just thinking it's time to move to the beach and live in a shack, while selling seashells or something!! LOL

@Steph - I have always wanted to try the five fingers shoes, I have super flat feet though & I overpronate like crazy so I'm always afraid they won't work too well. The hot pink shoes I got were Asics, and as silly as it is, everytime I put them on I'm motivated. Something about that color I guess! I am feeling your pain about the cold weather, I'm over it already. I'm ready for some sun & heat!

I'm a little bit run down today, so I'm probably not going to get much more done, but I did do my thirty day shred. 40 more days until I measure & hopefully see some results!

I think the elliptical/bike is a ProForm.
I am glad we got it, but my BodyMedia doesn't register steps when I peddle :( I was hoping for that. But just means more time on the elliptical.

Arizona for Valentine's Day sounds warm. I feel like I am trapped in Narnia with the White Witch still is reign. Another storm is on its way. 6+ inches. I am sure kids will have a snow day tomorrow. I am going to make it a no gadget day. I get so sick of them having electronics in their hands. Pulling out all the cave man board games.

I just bought my daughter pink nike's last weekend. Can't wait for us to wear the same size! My two older teenage daughters are 1.5 sizes bigger than me now. I usually wear 5 finger toe shoes. They dont work to well with snow, They make my piggies cold.

@MICHELELYNN777 thanks for the reminder about monthly goals. I need to put pen to paper on mine also.

@Steph~What kind of elliptical/bike did you get? I'm glad you're liking it and it's a challenge. I laughed at the picture of you climbing around it to get to your bed~that's something I would do!

@Kimb3rl33~I have hot pink shoes, too! I have never been one for bright colors, but they are so fun to wear and I get lots of comments on them :) I love/hate Jillian~LOL!

I am working on my goals for the month and will post re-cap for Jan and new goals in a blog soon~maybe later tonight or tomorrow.

We will be in Arizona for Valentine's Day visiting my mom who snowbirds there during the winter. Hubby is taking us both out for dinner :)

Hi guys, took a few days off prior to starting my new routine. The cold weather here has been brutal & it wrecked my mood & motivation. So, to kickstart my routine again, I bought me some hot pink running shoes! Perked me right up. :) Started the 30 day shred today along with my nightly 2.5 miles of walking..definitely kicked my butt! But I'm ready for my walk & I am newly inspired on my goals.

As far as Valentine's Day goes, no plans as of yet. :) How about you guys?

@ Michele I love my elliptical/bike. Although I was surprised how out of breathe I was after only 10 mins on the bike. It was harder than the elliptical for me. I had to laugh at the no room in the house comment. I want the elliptical in our room. ( I didnt want the kids on it, they tend to break what they touch LOL) I no longer can walk to my side of the bed. I have to crawl over to my side. But it works!

I always have monthly goals. I make myself set workout goals, nutrition goals, creative goals and family goals. I keep them on the frig to remind me daily.

Anyone have plans for Valentine's Day?

Steph24379~Sounds like you've had some craziness in your world the past several days. Hopefully you won't need the generator, but at least it's ready if you do! I saw on your blog that you got an elliptical/bike? How do you like it so far? I have been whining for a treadmill or elliptical, but hubby is pretty adamant that he doesn't want one. He says we don't have room and that I won't use it. The truth is, we had a treadmill years ago and ended up selling it because I didn't use it, so he has a point. Of course, I tell him I'm not the same person I was when my children were toddlers~lol!

Ready or not, here comes February! I did ok during the month of January, but not as consistent with exercise as I should have been. It's time to make some new goals and really dig in. How about you? Do you set monthly goals? Consider joining our monthly challenge~it's a great way to stay accountable!

glad you are feeling a little bit better kimb3rl33. Sometimes a little bit of exercise can make you feel better and give that immune system a boost. emoticon

I got up early this morning due to no power! Our neighbor is a good friend of ours. So Hubby and him were getting the generator out. Of course not enough gas. So they ran to town at 3am came back. Tried to start the generator no luck. Hubby had to take it apart. An hr later finally got it going. Started to wire the furnace to it and poof power on!!!!!!. The house got down to 48 degrees in that short time. But good news his truck was warm and thawed out for him when he left for work emoticon

Kids are home today again! They will be in school till July I think LOL
Treadmill took a pooh this morning also. Looking into buying an elliptical.

Do you all prefer treadmill or elliptical?
