Just finished Broken Harbor by Tana French. It's a police procedural/murder mystery plus so much more. Beautiful writing, characterization, and psychologically suspenseful. I couldn't put it down.

I've just started reading The Cider House Rules by John Irving. One of my goals is to read five books and then watch the movies, so this will count towards that! So far, the book is really intriguing, and I'm excited to curl up on the couch this winter with Netflix and watch the movie version when I'm done with the book. :)

NEELIXNKES - The Pilot's Wife is next on my list. Glad to know someone is enjoying it!

just finished a book about being a "dutiful worrier" from the library. it was very good. i learned a lot about how to get my mind out of those patterns. next i am planning to read a book about "binge eating" from the library. i need to learn how to control those sugar/chocolate cravings so i don't eat so much and can't stop. i put myself to bed after having peppermint tea so i wouldnt eat more than my calories for that day. that was after eating too many in the morning and exercising for an hour and a half. i think i have a problem....

I just finished flying through The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Very good read. I am plodding through The Memory Keeper's Daughter, have been for quite some time now, just can't seem to stick with it. My next book will be As You Wish by Cary Elwes, it's about the making of the movie The Princess Bride.

I haven't made much time for reading lately, so I'm still trying to get through books I started months ago...

1. Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones
2. Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal by Mary Roach (ugh! Pushing myself to read more non-fiction, but it's a struggle!)
3. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
4. Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham
5. What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty

Ok, so that's a lot of books to be reading at one time. I have discovered that if I don't really LOVE a book, I tend to start another and then jump around so I don't get bored. In general, I will give up on a book if I really don't like it, except for the ones I am challenging myself with (non-fiction & classics)

I have been reading all the books I have around the house that people have given me, but I haven't read yet. I am reading Eye of the Beholder by Jayne Ann Krentz, It's a romance novel, so it definitely isn't my choice of genre, but it is a suspenseful book and very interesting. I would recommend it to the people who prefer romance novels

I just started reading Zero Day by David Baldacci. Someone gave me this book a few months ago and I have finally gotten around to reading it. This writer lives in Virginia like I do. It seems like an interesting book but, I have just started it,so I don't really know if I like it or not.

With my goal of reading 3 books of ~300+ pages this summer, I have read 2 now! Both are amazing books covering WWII era, great characters, great generational estates, spanning several countries, and with richly beautiful detail. Love, loss, and finding strength...these are historical fiction and written from a female narrator's perspective.

- The Orchid House by Lucinda Riley
- The House at Tyneford by Natasha Solomons

Footnote: I wish I had this much dedication to physical fitness though. Maybe I need to try listening to books on Mp3 while walking? Would love recommendations if so!

Just finished "Walking on Water", the last of the "The Walk" series, by Richard Paul Evans, and "Have a New Teenager by Friday" by Dr. Kevin Leman. Both excellent reads. Looking for something funny and light, but might just start the other book that I got from the library - "The Power of Four." Can't remember the authors right now, but somewhat DaVinci Code like, I think.

I have challenged myself to read 52 books in 2014. So far I have read 30 with the most recent being Wild:From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. This was an enjoyable read, I did find her writing somewhat repetitive though. I would recommend it. The book I just started yesterday is called Duncton Stone. It is part of a series. The first series of 3books is Duncton Chronicles and Duncton Stone is the 3rd book of a series which follows it. I am really frustrated with these books, I started reading them because I remembered them fondly from high school and I am not enjoying the second series as much as the first. The books are all 500 pages long and could be condensed into 250 each. The stories are all about moles. Little animals that burrow. It is based in England. I have two weeks to get through this last book. If I haven't finished it by then, I will give up and take it back to the library.

Here is a list of what I'm reading (too many going right now!)

1. Mr. Pip by Lloyd Jones (this was May's book selection, but I'm still trying to finish it)
2. Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler (June's book, just starting)
3. Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal by Mary Roach (non-fiction; a little funny, but still tedious for me)
4. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (almost done)

I have a couple of different books going at the same time. It makes my husband crazy, but I figure if I can keep up with more than one television show, I can certainly keep up with more than one book. I just finished "The Hobbit" and am now working on the first Lord of the Rings book. I am also currently reading the 4th book of the "Left Behind" series..."Soul Harvest" It's my second time through the books. The other book I am reading is called "Cocktail Hour" by Tara McTiernan. Its on my kindle and I am having a hard time with it because the antagonist in this book really makes me mad and I don't see how the others cant see through her. I read, get angry and have to put it down...LOL
