Welcome to Spark! and this team. There are a lot of well-informed people here to help you. You will find the trackers especially helpful. It is such an education finding out how many calories you've consumed when small choices can cut the number down and the Fitness Tracker is a positive reinforcement because it rewards you for your effort by burning all those calories. You pointed out your weakness. You are starting earlier than I. I didn't focus on getting fit again until I was 57. Took me three years, so it won't happen overnight, and exercise - in my case walking - is key to weight loss. emoticon

Take this first week to familiarize yourself with the tools here. Once you get used to using them, it becomes easier to use them even when you are busy. Personally, I spent my first week learning to use the tools, and just tracking everything I was already eating and doing for exercise. It gave me a baseline to work from. It also gave me a chance to really decide what my goals were, and how to get there.

This site can only provide the support and the tools to reach these goals. You need to put the hard work in. Personally, I end up kicking my own butt every day. Feel free to check out my blogs to see how I kick my butt out the door to get my fitness in. I can tell you, once I am finished with my exercise for the day, I feel great. No more I should do this and I should do that. Instead, I feel accomplished, and able to relax and enjoy the rest of my day.

You can not change yesterday - it's done.
You can only dream of tomorrow.
The only day you can change is today.
What are you going to do today to reach your goals of tomorrow?

It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it GREAT

I am 53 year old with two grown children ages 23 and 22. I have been trying to lose weight for the last 15 years and have tried everything out there...have been successful except for the last 5 years.....my weight is climbing and my health numbers are suffering, with high cholestrol, high blood pressure and high triglicerides. So I have been seeing the Spark People emails for the last 10 years and have now decided to really join and participate to see results. I think I am doing good and then i don't...so I need consistency. I love my sweets and have a hard time turning them down when I am with others! i am glad I made this decision to participate and hope to see results!
