Ha ha, I know I posted flattering pictures. But the one with me in the red shirt shows my wide hips...I carry most of my weight in my hips and thighs, and looking from the side is the slenderest view. But from straight on....well, anyway, the hourglass is bottom heavy. It isn't bone structure. It's flabby and spills out over the top of my jeans that once fit. Thanks for the cheerful post though. It helped my self esteem for the day!

Dagnabit Girl, if you weigh 165 lbs it must be all muscle. You look great in your pics! You're slender. ??? What do you do, weigh yourself with combat boots on? : )

Hi Benton,
I'm about 5'7" and weigh 165 lbs (ugh). I guess all the time I was eating too little is causing the problem now, but I have been eating about 1000-1200 daily pretty consistently for a couple years now, that is why I have gained 20 pounds. I would have thought my metabolism would be healing by now! I put some pictures on my Spark page. I think if you click on my name then you can see the pics. Happily I know that metabolisms can eventually be nursed back to normal but how much weight to I have to gain? And how long does it take? Any information would be appreciated! Thanks Benton!

I'm concerned that you've been eating too few calories and that perhaps you have caused your metabolism to slow down. Under 1,000 calories per day is way too low. 500 calories is a starvation diet. It is suggested that we don't go below 1,200 calories per day. How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

Hi Benton, I guess I could have included that one of my favorite "diet" aids is to keep a food and exercise journal. For years I kept my daily calories under 1000, and for a period of 6 or 8 months I ate 500 calories a day to maintain my weight at the time, which is probably why I am having such a hard time losing any weight now. When I don't keep my journal, I miss it! I avoid sugars and sweeteners of all kinds except occasional fresh fruit. Most of my carbs are from non-starchy vegetables that I grow in my garden. When I do eat grains I make sure it is whole grain like millet, wild rice, steel cut oats, or sprouted wheat. Because i am a vegetarian, I use eggs, tofu, and other soy products for protein. Occasionally seeds and nuts. I like to prepare all my own food and yes, I take my own lunch to work every day!
These days I am trying to keep my calories between 1000 and 1200, but it is not easy given my fear of gaining more weight that I will not be able to lose. According to this Spark program, I should be dropping weight easily but we shall see. I plan on using the feature you mention where you enter in all your daily food (and also the exercise log) and see if I can get any clues that way. Thanks for the post!

emoticon Hi, Girl! It seems you're doing a lot of good, athletic activities. You're not going to lose weight, though, unless you get your calories down. I personally find it difficult to eat the right amount of calories unless I go on one of the programs that sends pre-packaged food to its clients, and then I can't cheat or I don't lose weight. These diets are expensive, though. If you have the time to prepare your own food and keep track of it, you can do it on your own. But, it is essential that you keep track of everything you put into your stomach. SparkPeople has a wonderful application for this.

Hi, I'm 31 and want to lose 30 pounds. I just completed my first triathlon and first 5k this year but even with all the training and careful eating plans, I didn't lose any weight or inches. Does anyone have any suggestions? (I've had hormones and thyroid tested without anything showing up as wrong). Sigh! However, besides the lovehandles and "budda belly" I am a healthy, active woman who loves doing things, cooking, gardening, art, and finishing up a good workout! I'm glad to meet you all and hope that I can find some answers.
