Thanks for the information Aspiringvegan.

I forgot to add that I bought the "Forks over Knives" DVD a couple months ago and it was an eye opener for me! I also bought 4 more of the DVDs to give to friends. Three of them are type two diabetics, and one other has a family history of Type 2 diabetes and is wanting to avoid going down that path. .I hope they watched them! I am convinced we can cure most of what ails us with good nutrition and exercise.

I just finished reading the Kindle version of Easy Vegan meals by SparkPeople and I can hardly wait to start making exciting new dishes!

Now, I have to get started on exercising myself. I always find that that is the hardest thing for me to do. I can find so many excuses not to even get started!

For tracking weight, fitness, etc, go to the top left of this page and click on My Trackers. For uploading photos, you can do that on your personal spark page.

Some people think the “plant-based whole foods diet” is extreme. Half a million a year will have their chests opened up and a vein taken from their leg and sewn onto their coronary artery. Some people would call that extreme.

Thanks Teresa. I would be happy to have you, and others on SP help me with my goals. I have been trying for 20 years or so to lose weight and keep my cholesterol down, and haven't been secessful yet. I have tried WW 3x so far, and can't seem to stick to the program nor keep counting points. I think I need the motivation of others who are going on the same journey - like you and Aspiringvegan (and others), I hope to meet on this board.

Question - how do you put your picture on here, and how do you put the weight goals progress I see at the bottome of your post, as well as Aspiringvegan's post? I am determined to do this thing correctly!

Welcome to you as well. I am very new to the vegan world but feel this is the very thing for me. I too had health issues and always felt so tired. Now that I stumbled onto becoming a vegan I am 10x's better. I started on spark pages in 2009 and got side tracked with weight watchers. I started the vegan diet in September and looked to spark pages shortly after. Good luck to you. Everyone seems very supportive thus far. Hopefully we can help each other along the way.

That other board is Vegan Fitness and Nutrition. And I envy you your cooking skills. Also, if you haven't watched Forks Over Knives, or if others question you about what you're doing, it's a great resource. I've watched it through Amazon Instant Video. Not sure about other sources.

Thanks for the welcome Aspiringvegan! I thought I was on the Vegan board! Oh well, I will look for that too.

I love to cook and create recipes, so now that I cleaned out my pantry and fridge yesterday, I gave my No No foods to my married children. Then, I went out yesterday and bought a fridge full of fresh veggies. I am so motivated to lose weight and get my cholesterol readings down. I want to shock my doctor who thinks I am not going to do this without meds! I would love to surprise my friends and family this April when I take a trip to visit them!

I bought an ebook by Dr. Joel Fuhrman and it was a good motivation for me to get started. I also plan to get the Vegan cookbook SP has, to help give me more ideas and recipes.

Welcome! I have similar motivations, and have been doing well. In the first 2 months my cholesterol went from 222-ish to 158, with LDL plummeting from 146 to 81. I've watched Forks Over Knives, and read Engine2Diet, so I also use as little oil as possible, and cook as much from scratch as possible. Not having been much of a cook before this has probably made this more difficult than others may find it, but - like you - I live alone so I know I'm only inflicting my sometimes-questionable seasoning choices on myself. LOL! Good luck, and welcome aboard! Just FYI, there's also a Vegan board if you'd like to visit that sometime, as well. Good luck!

Hello everyone, my name is Loretta. I started SP last summer but got off track and gained about 8 lb more weight! I am starting fresh today. : )

I was a vegan for two full years in the early 90's and looked and felt good, I lost my excess weight too. Then I was hospitalized for a week and I ate some meat they served me and and that got me craving meat again. : (

My reason for going Vegan this time is my weight (need to lose 40 lb), and my health. I am lactose intolerant; have osteoporosis; high cholesterol, and kidney stones. Blood pressure is borderline. I also get colon polyps. So far, I missed getting diabetes, but I would like to avoid that! My Mom, in her mid 80's, has pulmonary heart disease and I want to avoid that too!

I live alone so I want to get healthy, and stay healthy into my Golden years and not end up in a nursing home someday! I decided a Vegan lifestyle would be the best option for me, especially since I refuse to take any medications. I also want to get to my goal weight, and I belive I can do this with the help of SparkPeople and the support of folks on the forums.
I look forward to being part of the SparkPeople team and meeting new people.
