Hi Moonsister! It is indeed very important to eat a healthy diet.... Too often people cut meat out of their diet and then 'replace' it (not that it needs replacement) with a lot of carbs and processed foods - and then when they don't feel well indeed presume it's because of being a vegetarian. So I'd say make sure you eat lots of vegetables and fruits and continue to educate yourself with regard to health and food and you'll be fine!
Keep it simple.
Welcome! I think most of us in some way are allergic to milk. Have you read the book Eating Animals? It really strengthened my resolve for my ethical reasons for not eating animal products. Ethics is only a small part though. If you want to live a full, long, healthy and, quality- filled life, you are making the best choice right now. Good luck!

Hello and Welcome MoonSister!
"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another."
-Charles Dickens (1812-1870)
"Most people don't change until the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of changing."
Good luck with the switch, Moonsister! I trace my preference for vegetarianism back to when I was a kid and someone told me the bacon I was eating was actually Piglet, a hog I had named and thought was a pet...I had no idea my grandmother was raising her for meat...once you begin to think of animals as individuals, its just as unthinkable to eat them as it would be to eat your dog! For years after, the only meat I could eat was the most processed stuff (think pepperoni), which held no resemblance to the actual animal. I wouldn't touch anything with a bone in it. As I got older, I realized why I was eating the least healthful meats it was possible to consume, and just stopped. I've never been happier, and I'll never go back. Keep at it, I hope it works out for you!
Hi MoonSister! I think it's a great idea to "reset your tastebuds"---that's a turn of phrase that I use often myself.
"Optimism is an act of bravery."
"Choices, not sacrifices."
Hi everybody! I am super excited to do the vegetarian thing! I have been struggling with eating meat for about a year now, my conscience vs my belly. I do believe that my conscience has finally won out.
It really started when my dad got a few bull calves and goats to raise for meat and sell last year. They were so super great! Those big old steers would listen to him like dogs! They trusted him.
And then the goats, Man did I love those goats! They were pygmies and the little girl was the best! She loved to go for walks and car rides They made me laugh!
Then he sold them behind my back. I was in the middle of moving and I told him I would take the goats after we got moved, but he didn't wait.... Oh man was I angry!
Anyway, they were such individuals with so much emotion. I tried going vegetarian once before and my hair started falling out, but it was probably b/c I was eating too many processed foods still.
So this time I want to start with a Reboost juice fast Aug 1st to reset my taste buds, and then stay off of the processed foods and gluten. I am pretty sure I have a gluten and dairy allergy. They make me feel like crap!
Cheers to the new me!
