Thanks so much for the excellent info, I will check it out. Even when I was a meat eater I never used added fat to my cooking or food. So that will be a change I won't have to make emoticon I'm learning all about this new path and I know I have a lot to learn...it's only been a week so far. I give you kudos for doing the vegan lifestyle...I am nowhere near that level but hope to work my vegetarian path towards that in the future. emoticon

I ignore the fat range on Spark because I use NO added fat at all in my cooking. The spark guidelines don't work for folks who eat low fat vegan meals that are recommended by Engine2 Diet, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, Eat to Live and the many vegan/low fat lifestyles. So if you don't want to use added fat, you will be fine. I changed my fat to under 10 grams a day which I get from whole foods like whole grains and oatmeal. Did you know veggies and fruits contain naturally occurring fat? Did you know that you get enough fat just eating a healthy whole food diet that has only the naturally occurring fat in whole foods in it?

Welcome to our fantastic team!! And welcome to Spark!
I myself just recently became a vegetarian, I have noticed the more processed foods have so much sodium, I'm not missing the meat at all but I'm really concentrating on finding a balance of the more convenient foods with more fresh ones. I have tried the portobella mushroom burgers and love them, in fact I find them even better in some instances. I have had a bit of the opposite problem however though...not enough fat in my diet. Although, very new to all this and learning as much as I can I am happy to have chosen this path. I hope you also feel the same.emoticon

Hi & welcome to the team. I second everything VEGFROG said. Mushrooms are a great sub for both flavor & 'mouth feel' plus they are lower in calories and rich in nutrients. I also recommend you search for new dishes at www.nutritionmd.org and www.engine2diet.com.

If you haven't already - try cooking with portabella mushrooms and
other mushroom types. This might help you satisfy the craving
for meat-like texture. I've had some great portabella steak
'burgers' that have great 'meaty' texture. Try them marinated
in balsamic vinegar or other marinade. Also - would you
believe - scientists have recently found mushrooms are one
of the few non-animal sources of vitamin D?!!

I have been in sparks for about a week now. Still trying to figure out the website. For most of my life I ate meat. Recently I switched over to veganism. I still miss the meat taste so I was eating a lot of the vegie processed foods, trying to get the same taste and texture. Now that I am reading the labels, I am amazed at how much fat is in them. Now I'm trying to get used to more natural foods. It is quite a change.
