Hi- I'm a newbie to this team too but not to SparkPeople (been on since 2010). Being active and interacting with others with the same goals DOES help. There are alot of people here going through the same thing or that have Gone through the same thing that can lend encouragement. Reach out and add SparkFriends with people who are similar to you or inspire you. Just read some blog posts and you'll find a few people who click.
Starting with the right teams DOES help- keep trying different ones until you find a few that fit and are ACTIVE. You'll find some SparkFriends there too.
Using the Nutrition tracker is probably the biggest help of all so even on days you don't feel social, always login and track. You may find yourself inadvertantly reading some inspirational messages along the way. .
