Welcome, Dave! Wow, I thought I was too young to have a heart attack at 35! Kudos to you for worrying about your daughter's health, too! My husband joined Spark about a week after I did (I think he saw how much fun I was having and was jealous! LOL!), and we have made this a family lifestyle change, not just ourselves!

Best of luck to you!

Rhonda

Welcome to the team, Dave! Heart-healthy eating is a lifetime habit, so it's good you're thinking of your daughter's health now!

Kelly

P.S. Best hints for kids eating? 1. Start getting rid of most of the salt in your homemade meals now, so she gets used to less salt, and 2. Fresh fruit always on hand for snacks, and you eat a bunch of it too, so she sees you modelling that behavior.

Welcome to the team! I'm 53 also. The joys of menopause, AND heart problems - hey, what a combination for fun, huh? I've got idiopathic congestive heart failure, and an implanted defibrillator for ventricular fibrillation - the kind that causes Sudden Cardiac Death - and my ICD has fired a couple times, saving my life. It's not fun, but it's better than not having it! The implant surgery itself is pretty easy; the main hangups are not being able to use the arm on that side for a few weeks, and not being able to sleep on your stomach because the damn ICD pokes out. Minor inconveniences.

Welcome, Marcia! Good luck to you with your procedures. I had an arterial dissection after the birth of my youngest daughter 18 months ago, which caused me to have a heart attack, which led to bypass surgery. This was at the age of 35! I never dreamed that I would have heart problems, as I have no family history.

Best of luck to you!

Rhonda

My name is Marcia. I'm 53, married, a mother of 5, a grandmother of 6, and have just been diagnosed with a heart problem. I go in for an ablation and possibly a defibrillator on 10/08/07. I'm just a little spooked. This is all new to me. I had a hysterectomy in July. I was feeling so much better after the surgery. I had been suffering with anemia for a couple years. Two weeks after the surgery I started having spells where my heart beat fast and I'd feel faint. I haveVT. I'm trying to stay positive, and continue to work towards a more healthy living style, I have to admit I'm concerned. Finding this site has been a real blessing.

What if I woke up with only what I thanked God for yesterday?
Gratitude and exercise are the best medicines.
