I agree start out slow. With small changes that way it becomes a life style not just a diet. It's a proven fact to take the weight off slowly at 1 or 2 pounds a week, your keeping it off is better. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Welcome. Congrats on quitting smoking. I did that a while back and it's hard not to reach for food when you're craving a smoke. The hand-to-mouth habit is hard to break but being aware of it helps. I still sometimes put my first two fingers to my lips as though I was holding a cigarette and inhale deeply just to get myself to relax.
A word to the wise: don't go for the full 50 lbs. all at once. Do 10 lbs. to start and then another 10. It's a small thing, but can save you a lot of frustration.

To help me stop eating (and drinking) so much I had to find something else to keep my hands busy. I started crocheting, drawing, and embroidering. It has helped tremendously with keeping my mind off of my bad habits.
