Welcome to the team. You have a great attitude. I am 65 , I had my 1st heart attack when
I was 31, I had a second while I was in the hospital. I am a stubborn person I wouldn't stay in
bed they had to sedate me. After a year I was allowed to go back to work. I never took the heart problem serious and years latter I was rushed to the hospital because I as having problems at work . They put stents in thank god they got me there, they said I wouldn't have made the day.
I also started developing breathing problems, I have COPD and pulmonary fibrosis. I am on oxygen 24 hrs a day. I have made up my mind to stay as active as possible, I am losing weight
Not where I want to be. Good luck on your weight loss journey, and keep up that positive attitude, it will get you to your goals.

welcome. I like your attitude. I'm 61 next month. I had a mitral valve leak repaired with clips this Jan past. I apparently got a flu virus in my heart and I developed dilated cardiomyopathy and I have Stage 4 Congestive Heart Failure. Since that diagnosis in 2004, I've been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and kidney issues. I also have Restless Leg Syndrome and Obstructive Sleep Apnea, arthritis and Crohn's Disease. I love water exercise and try to go to the pool every Tues, Thurs, Sat and Sun and do the aquafit exercise for 60 mins. and water jogging with 30 stair steps for 30 mins. In between days, I try to use my pedaling machine. I don't do well lifting or climbing stairs, squatting or reaching to get things. I've found that with time, I've learned how to do many things in easier ways and I find that the more I do, the more I can do. Good luck on your journey and join in the discussions and such.

Just want to say hello and tell you a little about my situation. After dealing with lung problems off and on for years and thinking that was my only problem I recently experienced chest pain while training for a new job, was taken to the hospital and after several days of test underwent heart bypass surgery for a blocked artery in my heart. My surgery went well and I am healing well. I am following my low sodium diet with a goal of 1800 mgs a day. I was advised to walk daily as much as comfortable, not lift anything over 10 lbs and not do any activitie swinging wide with my arms such as vacuuming, playing golf or fishing. I am doing chores daily, walking and sticking to my diet. Luckily my husband is going to follow my same diet. I am blessed in that I had recently moved to a new city and state where no one knew my history and went purely on instinct and symptoms. I had gone to a doctor every 3 months, had regular blood work etc and had no idea I had anything wrong with my heart. My only indication was mild chest tightness which always presented itself when I was at work so I assumed it was stress as I was a 911 operator and our adrenalin is in a constant rise and fall. The local doctors quickly found my problem although it did not show exact symptoms common for a blockage . Thank God for this. I want to learn from other people on this site and give and get encouragement whenever I can. I am an upbeat lady of 58 and plan on living a long, long time being as active as possible. Who knows I may get in better shape than I ever have after this. Happy to be on the Healthy Hearts team.
