Welcome. I needed open heart surgery to repair a leady Mitral Valve but because I have Cardiomyopathy it was determined that it would be too dangerous for me. Fortunately I was sent to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and on 8 January they fixed the leak with the innovative MitraValve Clip Procedure. It's wonderful - no incision - no major trauma and within 2 weeks I was back exercising in the pool and am now up to 60 mins of aquafit and 30 mins of water jogging 4 days a week. The recovery is so quick I went from being assisted walking across a room while I gasped for breath to walking the halls of the Cardiac ICU with my husband the day after. After 3 days they kicked me out of ICU and sent me to a regular room and then home on the 4th day. I start Cardiac Rehab on the 10th - don't think they'll have to do much for exercise, lol. I don't seem to lose from the exercise but I feel good - I can move easier and breathe easier.
You are doing great with the exercising it sounds. Set yourself some small achievable goals with regards to both food and exercise so that you can reach your goals and not get frustrated and want to quit. Rather than a diet, we need a life change. After you reach one of your small goals, you can then set another new small goal inching your way to your more lofty bigger goal. Many of us have found that tracking both nutrition and exercise has been great for keeping ourselves on track. If I have to log it, I think twice about taking that calorie laden drink, or bite of something. Good luck on your journey and be sure to join whatever Spark Teams have something for you.

Hello from Colorado Springs and welcome. If you eat you meals in the hospital dinning room, I can't image that causing you to gain weight. Their food is low-cal and unappetizing. ;-p I think you'll find SparkPeople a big help. Good luck.
