Welcome. Bebarb has some wonderful suggestions for you. I can only add, when you are ready to set goals, don't make them too long term or too lofty. Make them simple and easily attainable - go slow. The aim here is for a life change rather than a diet. A life change requires a change in habits and that is done slowly. Good luck.

Hi, Priscilla, and welcome. Glad you found this site. It can be very helpful. First, realize that we all were overwhelmed at first. I had to explore the site a little at a time and I'm still finding things I didn't know were there 9 months in.

The main thing is to start tracking your eating and exercise in the Nutrition and Fitness tracker on the My Trackers tab above. You don't need to make changes right away, just get to know what you're doing now and get use to tracking. And start reading things. You'll learn to start slow, make a plan, and set goals.

When you get time, click on the Help menu at the top of the page and read the FAQ. Read articles in the Articles and Videos tab at the top of the page, etc. And post any questions you have. We all love to answer questions.

A PS: if you don't care for the menu SparkPeople provides you aren't required to use it, just make up your own. You can stop their menu from showing up on your nutrition tracker if you don't want it there.

Hello Everyone! My name is Priscilla. I am overweight, I am tired and I need a change. When I signed up for this site, once I got in, I was very intimidated and overwhelmed. It is far more exciting looking than I expected. But I am like a fish in water. I am currently, diabetic, overweight, with high BP. Low Cholesterol but still had a heart attack at 36 and an Angioplasty at 38. For a young African American female that starts a host of other illnesses that could occur and I want to be here for my family. I am 53 now so the Lord is still giving me an opportunity to get it right. i'm nervous, need to lose a lot of weight, but I'm ready. I hope to hear from others who will encourage! Thanks.
