Kristina - welcome - I wish it were under happier circumstances. I had my awakening at age 50, not with a heart attack but Congestive Heart Failure due to having Dilated Cardiomyopathy (my heart is stretched in one quadrant and can't work properly). I had quit smoking a year or 2 before - I don't think I've ever been as sick as since quitting, lol.. Like you, I gained a ton of weight. Last week i had another angiogram and fortunately I still don't have any blockage and didn't require stints. I do need to have a leaking heart valve replaced or repaired however. Since joining SparkPeople, I've lost some of my weight and hope to lose more. I find the tracking systems for both nutrition and exercise to be a great help but probably the greatest, is the communication and support in the various forums as you get to know people. Make sure you check out all that is available - I'm still looking things over months later because there is soooo much. If you make a habit of going onto the "start" page every day, it will lead you to all kinds of information and interactive activities. Welcome. Quitting smoking cause weight gain both because you're in withdrawal from nicotine and from a hand to mouth and inhale addiction. Try buying some cinnamon sticks and "smoking" them (don't light up, just hold one like a cigarette and inhale deeply through it until the craving passes.) every time you crave a smoke or something to eat that's not on your plan. It helps.

I'm sorry to hear of your heart problems...you are very young to have that happen! I thought I was too young, when I had by triple by-pass at 54...then ten years later, a heart attack...I found Dr. Joel Fuhrman's Eat to Live program & use Spark People to track things & I have gone from 146 to 117 at present, trying to get back to 110. Good luck in taking back your life. it can be done!

Hello, my name is Kristina and I am 42, I have been with my husband for 25 years, we have three kids. Two girls ages 24 and 22 and one son age 17.
Out of the clear blue April 1st 2013 I woke-up feeling very tiered and having chest pain. I went to the hospital and found I was having a heart attack. I ended up dying three times and now have five stents in my heart. I have since quit smoking but have gained 40lbs.
