Hi, Amanda... believe me, your world doesn't end with heart disease, but it does change! You have made a great start, though, with the changes you have already made. Hang in there, let us know if you have questions, and welcome! Evelyn

Welcome Amanda, I am so sorry that you have had a rough couple of weeks. Finding out that you have heart issues is very hard. So glad you returned to the ER when you felt so bad. That was a smart move. Sparkpeople is wonderful and you will have as much support and friendship that you wish. Ask a question and you will have a flood of reply's. Glad you found us!!
Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.
No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.
If an item has more than 10 ingredients I put it on the Do Not Buy List as it is too processed.
Welcome to the group, hope things go well for you and you do improve and yes it is quite strange getting use to the wonderful world of medicines and watching your diet the food tracker can help with that and the people on here are awesome.
My name is Amanda. I am 29 and live in southern Ohio. I had quite the scare recently. I started off having what appeared to be asthma attacks and had to go to the ER twice over them, being told I had bronchitis both times they gave me antibiotics and steroids. I went to Columbus to visit some family and I kept getting short of breath, even to the point that I could barely take a shower. I'd have to sit down immediately afterward and do a nebulizer treatment. It just got to the point where I could barely walk into another room without losing my breath so I took myself to the ER again. This time they said I had a really bad case of pneumonia and they wanted to keep me for at least one day. I was in the hospital for 3 days at this point and was getting worse. I could barely shift around in bed and would get so out of breath it would take me 5 minutes to catch it and getting up to do anything was impossible. They finally did an echocardiogram and found out I had cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. I was floored! I never suspected what was wrong with me was my heart. They have me on several medications for it now and I've been out of the hospital for about a week and a half (I had to stay a total of 8 days) I'm slowly getting my energy back but still not trying to over do it. I hope I don't have either of these conditions permanently but they said it will take 2-3 months to find out. They think I most likely caught a virus which gave it to me. It's weird now thinking about lowering how much salt I eat and taking aspirin etc... but it will take some getting used to. I am here to learn from all of you and to know that even if I do have this the rest of my life, the world's not going to end.
