Hi and welcome, Jean! I'm 58 also and my 40th high school reunion just passed in October. I didn't go because I didn't like high school then and there's only one person in the whole class that I've even cared about seeing since, and I'm still in contact with her!
I love your cats names - Ipod and Snickers - those are great! My daughter named our cat Tommy when we got him 13 years ago. It's not very original, but it seems to fit him. He's a big boy - 19 lbs - gray and white with beautiful green eyes.
You'll be sure to make lots of friends on Spark. I'm a member of several teams - some are more active than others - but I have "met" some wonderful people whose friendship I treasure.
You're right that the pounds can "creep"" up on us and it doesn't seem as easy to lose as when we were younger. The idea with Spark is to make small changes, one or two at a time. Once those become healthy habits that your body is used to, add another change. That way, you won't become overwhelmed and the “baby steps” will result in healthy changes that will last a lifetime.
If you haven't already, check out the "Getting Started Guide" under the Site Quick Links section on the bottom right of the page. Most everything else you need to know about Spark is on the orange tabbed toolbar near the top of the page. The Nutrition and Fitness trackers under the My Trackers tab are invaluable. There are exercise videos for every fitness level under the Articles & Videos tab, and there are inspirational Success stories under the Community tab that are very motivational. You can also join a challenge on Challenge Central which is also on the Community tab. This is only a small sample of all the wonderful things Spark has to offer. Just take it slow until you get familiar with the site.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We're so glad to have you on the team!

Hi my name is Jean and I am 58 years young, will be 59 in April. Time sure flies. My 40th high school reunion just passed last year. Ugh. Anyway, I am married, never had children but have had cats. Right now I have 2 Ipod and Snickers. Ipod is 3 and we just got Snickers to go along with Ipod because he has been alone for a year. I live in Wisconsin and need to lose at least 50 pounds. Hoping to make friends and hoping to lose this weight. It sure is harder now than it used to be. Funny how you never notice it creeping up. LOL.
