To introduce myself: I belong to 3 area walking clubs, which are part of the AVA, a national walking club. Walks are normally 10K, can be 5K, or whatever distance you can manage. I encourage you to look at ava.org to find out more about volksmarching.
One of my clubs started a series of walks along the Lincoln Highway, first in Iowa, then in Nebraska. We've done Wyoming, OH, WV and for 2011-12, we're working with IL and IN clubs to walk the Lincoln Highway there. Each walk takes place in a city/town along the Lincoln Highway walk, generally along the route and tries to show interesting things about each town. It's been a great way for me to see more of the US.
My goal for 2011 will be to walk the actual distance of the Lincoln Highway here in Nebraska, 462.3 miles. The first leg is Omaha to Elkhorn, Waterloo, Valley and Fremont, which is 36.3 mi. or 58.5K.
I think I'll start indoors today - it's a balmy 4.5 deg. F right now!
