Hey everyone! I had been searching everywhere for a really good group for people interested in walking for health and fun, and I think I have possibly found the coolest one ever! I LOVE the idea of tracking my walking as if I were walking to some great destination. I have several good ideas of how I can do this, and a couple of them are inspired by my love of books written about people's cross-country travels. I think I might choose my origin and destination points to match those of the authors I have read and perhaps read the book while I am walking the distance of their trip. Here are some books I might follow: "Travels with Charley" by John Steinbeck, "Walk Across America" (I can't remember the author's name, I bought the book at a great library book sale years ago), and "Ghost Rider" by Neil Peart (drummer of the band Rush!).
My name is Lamanda. I live in Lilburn, GA, and I want to not only be serious about walking, but I also want to really enjoy it. To do this, I want to be sure I vary where I walk so I can keep things interesting. I plan to walk in in-door places as well as outdoor places (especially given the heat of the summer time here in GA). Here are places I can walk: my living room (with my Leslie Sansome DVD), my local mall (it happens to be circular and exactly one mile per lap), Lilburn City Park, Greenway Trail, other local parks, and hopefully the Silver Comet Trail. I need some physical activity because I know I feel better when I am active, and I have health concerns that would be improved by being active. I can't wait to work up my map and get started. I think I will definitely make this a part of my blog! Thanks for being here!
