Kevin (FINFIN2) is right. People just pick a starting and ending point and then start logging miles. For me, I like having a goal each month, so I'm over in the thread Kevin mentioned and am walking to Hyde Park, NY this month.

Pick a start point (or Home) and a finish place, and get going. There is also another thread where a bunch of us do a monthly walk.
