I guess because today is a weekend, I walked more than I do during the week :-) But my job does consist of me in front of a computer all day. I need to start using my lunch hour to walk for 30 minutes . . that would get me moving more during the week.

Anyway . .

1/24 = 5.5 miles = 1308.5 to go

I am moving right along emoticon

Thank You . I just MapQuested my walking trip from here - Pensacola, to my Mom and Dad's house - Amery, WI, it is 1316.3 miles . . emoticon I hope I didn't bite off more than I could chew :-) I figure if I walk about 2 to 4 miles a day, it will take me about a year (possibly 2 years) to get home where I was born and raised (until 25 anyways). Okay, here goes nothing! I am starting today . .

1/23/09 = 2.3 miles // 1314.0 to go

Hi my name is Jenn and I am also new, but thought the "virtual walk" would be fun!! I live in Florida, so I can walk just about everyday of the year . . I remember the Wisconsin weather, I don't miss it :-) I would like to walk to Washington D.C., but I am just starting my walking again, knee was giving me problems, so it may take me a while to get there. Good luck Ms. Derla on your walk!!

The way we count it, is that a mile equals one mile. But over in our Hawaii thread, we really don't care how far anyone walks as long as you walk. So since today in the 11th, and there are 20 more days left in January, how about stopping into the Hawaii thread and just signing up for maybe 20 miles. Sounds like you could make that number, and on a day where you don't have any motivation to walk, maybe coming by the thread and telling us you walked anyway will be enough to get you going.

I have been reading the posting and trying to figure out how a virtual walk works. I don't think I put enough miles on the treadmill each day (about 1.3 miles) to get very far - just a mile at a time?

Did you find us over in Hawaii? Start at the Where are YOU walking to team page, and look in Challenge Walks. You'll see a "sticky" walk with Hawaii in the name. That's where we are. We're a good group and several of us having been walking together for a while. I think Owlwho, who I wrote about, and I have been walking together since August 2007. That's pretty amazing.

I'm so glad to have another quilter, and I see from your profile that you are a mystery fan. I enjoy Nevada Barr books too and have just finished a Aaron Elkins and a Donna Andrews. They're usually fun.

Hi Derla,

We have a Minnesotan from Minneapolis, I think, on our Hawaii walk. Her name is Owlwho. She's an inspiration. Drop in and say hello to a fellow Minnesotan. Me, I'm in North Carolina, where I can walk outside most of the year, except in the really, really hot days of summer.

I was attracted to the fact that this is a virtual walk as here in Minnesota the sidewalks are much too icy. Walking on those would be an invitation to a fractured hip or wrist. I am Derla - and just had my 75th birthday. I'm told I need to exercize and lose about 25 lbs. I have a treadmill which I can use, but even with listening to books on my MP3 while I use it -- I really do not like doing it. I have 6 children (one deceased), 16 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
