Hi Skinnyme: Us virtual walkers like to set a goal either for amt. of steps taken or mileage walked. We do this as both motivation and fun.
We pick a place we have always wanted to visit or have visited. We then figure the mileage or steps needed to reach our destination this then becomes our goal.
Next we walk, some on treadmills, some in malls, some near our homes but we walk and track our mileage.
We then record our mileage how far we walked and distance we have left to travel to reach our goal. Simple and fun.
Since this is a virtual walk so you can walk across the ocean or to the moon (good luck with that one PHEW!!!) or to an imaginary place.
To help figure your mileage, if you walk your neighborhood for instance, then this can be done by a pedometer (a device that records # of steps walked and/or mileage.) or you can drive your route and check the mileage driven, or google has a pedometer site that has almost every city and the streets to track your mileage.
I use both a pedometer and the google site to plan my walks. I'm walking to SLC,UT. From Iowa (ok well i'll have to walk on water, floods)then when I reach that goal I plan to walk to other places I want to travel and visit. I write a storyline about my walk just for fun. You can see this on my sparkpage.
Some people choose their goals by throwing a dart on a map.
The team has challenges. Our june challenge is to remember the earthquake victims so some of us are also walking around china. See June challenges for this information. I'm doing the 38 mile challenge. Welcome to the team and good luck.
