Nope. Don't believe in curses, but boy can they get into your head. Any team can be beaten--even the best--on any given day. Seems like a curse is just a way to blame something you CAN control on something that you CAN'T. Cop out.

I agree with everyone else. No curses but they can play with your mind and get under your skin and break down your confidence.

As much as I'd like to believe in "the curse" with the Cubs I don't. It's just an excuse. I do believe in "choking" and pressure and I think that perhaps when the Cubs get into the playoffs the pressure just maybe too much for those particular players that year.

I'm toooooooooo old to believe in superstitions. The Cub's have lost because the other teams have had BETTER players-managers and yes some luck. When the Bears won the Superbowl in 85, I told my young boys at that time to really savor this accomplishment because it might not come along again in their lifetime, it's REAL hard to come by.

I love reading through everyones answers. Time for a new question.
Do you believe in the superstitions surrounding the Cubs?

Re: manager question. Does he have to be alive? I'd love to see Sparky Anderson as the Cubs manager!!

My memory is bad so I don't remember too many first basemen. That said I always liked Lee. Not only was he an excellent first basemen but he is a gentleman and good guy. Its easier for me to cheer on a genuine nice guy who is having a bad game/season than it is a guy who isn't so nice. I didn't get a chance to list my favorite pitcher but current pitchers I would pick Dempster for same reason. My choices come from the heart and not the stats. I guess I'd never make it as a scout! Or manager. As far as managers I wanted Joe Girardi but with not much changes to our payroll I thinik Quady was a good choice. He seems to really like the game and players. He is good with the youg guys. After watching Piniella call it in the last year Quady was a huge improvement. Without any big names or bats Joe Girardi might not be the best fit..for now.

I am only familiar with recent Cubs and I would definitely have to pick Mark Grace. Though I am not fond of him as an announcer.

This is a toughy! Might be easier to pick out the worst, don't want to be negative thou. I think my vote will go to D. Lee, just remembering all the wild throws he saved.

I would have liked to see Joe Giardi. Though I think Quady did really well at the end of last season. Sometimes I do think we need to give the underdog the shot, we don't have a good track record with successful managers.

I think I side with the Cubs BRASS, I think Quady sp. more than deserved the shot. Sandburg really wanted it, might have been a good choice but just remember they too will be fired or not resigned, hard to do that to such a CUB HERO.

If you could pick any manager for the Cubs...who would it be?
