Keeping track of what and how much you eat is about the most important step in losing weight, I believe. Old habits and denial creep in otherwise. For me it's not only about eating less, but making sure I eat enough protein, fiber, and try to check off 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
RA absolutely makes it more challenging. I was losing a lb. a week on Weight Watchers, got RA a few years ago, and have stayed about the same weight despite eating even healthier.
SparkPeople has many exercise videos for seated workouts... 8 to 10 minutes in length and up.
I sent you a message. Please do think of joining the Chair Exercise Team too. It has changed my life baby step by baby step. For many years my life was sitting in my lift chair only to get up to make the "seemed like" long walk to the bathroom. If and when I went out (which was not often) it was in a wheelchair or my scooter. My life has changed dramatically because of chair exercise starting at 10 minutes a day. I never dared hope that I could "recapture my normals" but it has happened one baby step at a time. There has been no change in meds just working my SP plan. My doctor is thrilled. It is difficult to get the exercise in with RA pain and being in a wheel chair...but can be done. You might want to check out the Chair Exercise team. Also, using the food tracker helps make better choices. Have a great weekend!
Welcome to Spark People!!!! I joined years ago but have been only sporadic until a few months ago. I was just diagnosed with RA in January 2014 and I know weight loss will not cure the RA but it will help protect my joints.
I am an animal lover too, at this time my husband and I have a cat, a retired racing greyhound and a foster dog who is chihuahua mixed with something. We think some sort of small bull dog. She is so ugly she is cute!
Reaching out for help is one of the first steps to help keep yourself motivated.

I joined at the end if last year but things were so hectic here that I did not have time to devote to the program. Well, now is the time. I would like to introduce myself, my name is Sandy, age 70+ but do not think of myself as old. I love animals, and have 4 dogs and a parrot. It seems like I have always been on a diet of one sort or another. I managed to get myself up to 278# and have been successful in getting my weight down to 210# but I feel that I can't get it beyond that point. I'm losing it slowly so I will hopefully keep it off. I'm in a wheelchair after back surgery and I could really use some encouragement.
