There is another RAD which you might possibly have....and that is Psoriatic ARthritis. This is the disease I have and although my psoriasis is very very minor, I have MAJOR arthritis. However it is common to have more severe psoriasis and arthritis that is a little more mild than RA. It is distinguishable from RA by the particular type of swelling in the fingers (it's called "Sausage fingers") and the joints that are affected in the fingers are generally different ones than in RA. Although it is generally milder than RA there is a particular symmetrical type that can be extremely severe (that is the one I have)....
You really must see a rheumatologist,, as the other ladies suggested, as early treatment is so very critical.
I'm glad you found us. WElcome!
I don't know if you're seeing a rheumatologist, but if you're not, PLEASE GO TO ONE. Your primary care doctor can give you a referral and your insurance WOULD approve it. Please go to a rheumatologist. Sounds like you have RA or something closely related. There are many autoimmune diseases that present with symptoms like yours.
One pound at a time ...
I do not know if you have RA or not but I have known so many ladies that it took years for the right diagnosis. Seemed like some people had the RA factor not show up for ages. Hang in there.
hI THERE. I am new to the diagnosis of RA. And yet, there remains a question of the diagnosis. I have had joint pain, with exhaustion, early morning stiffness, swelling hot joints and flare ups, for years. My pain went from the knees after a car accident, to my elbows and then wrists and hands. I am in the middle of a horrible flare up this week and am just biding my time until i can get home to rest. I had a negative Ra factor and low sed rate awhile back, but then i started having this flare up this time that has me insane. I already have one auto immune disease, psoriasis and was told i didnt have that brand of arthritis. (eyes rolling, whatever) but at the same time, i have this progressively worsening pain. i also have neuropathy to my legs from nerve damage from accident... i am on celebrex, elavil, cymbalta. and voltaren gel on occasion, but nothing seems to help in the middle of the flares. I am taking a round of prednisone right now, but it is not really getting me over the hump. My doctor feels i have RA, but am not getting the standard lab results. So here i am. i just felt the need to reach out to others for support. Also, my maternal aunt has RA. I also have both genes for Celiac but no active disease noted on biopsy of bowel. Hello to you all. i look forward to meeting and getting to know you. Debbie
