Hi Jeannie.

The Arthritis Today magazine was also a godsend for me when I was first diagnosed in 2004. I still have a subscription and usually learn at least one new thing every month.

I think the D3 are400mg each. My rheumy recommends a minimum of 2000 mg per day and strongly recommends 3000 to 5000mg a day.

And, you're right. SparkPeople has a wealth of information and this team is wonderful as well. If you need any computer help, don't be afraid to ask. Someone is bound to know the answer.

Take care.

Thank you Tiny! I will definitely ask for a bone density. So far I have yet to lose any height since high school. I really don't want that to change. Not for the height but for what it implys with the density.

I divorced the childrens father in 1978. Moe was my second husband and the love of my life. I miss him but he is not in pain anymore and that means more to me than anything else.

The 5 miles was great but it left me exhausted. Now since the diagnosis I know why. I am doing only a mile now. I really want to build on that but it will be slow. I have two small dogs that I want to start taking out with me but I don't think I can handle the leash yet. But hopefully soon.

I am so sorry to hear about your hip fractures. That has to be very painful! Like we need more pain right?

If you don't mind I am going to put you on my friends list. I really want to keep up with people I meet on here to give and get support.

emoticon Kinisue!

Happy to have you on the team, but I'm sorry about your RA diagnosis.

Please ask your Rheum doc if you need a bone density test since you're going to be on Prednisone. My Prednisone treatment left me with osteoporosis. I had 2 fractures, one being a hip, before they FINALLY decided to look at my bone density - and it was BAD! emoticon If walking is your "thing," you don't want a fracture to catch you by surprise!

Sorry you lost your husband. emoticon I divorced mine more than 37 years ago!

Wow! 13 grandchildren and 3 greats! How wonderful. I'm also 63 and have 5 grandchildren - no greats yet.

I've never walked 5 miles a day - EVER! Most I've been able to do in the past 12 years (RA diagnosis) is ONE MILE! Good for you! You go girl!

Tiny

I take the following supplements to help with my RAD:

- Omega 3 fish oil capsules, twice a day
- Garlic capsules, 3 times a day
- Vitamin D3 - 3 times a day

And, food-wise, I love the following items that are supposed to be anti-inflammatory:

- ginger
- honey
- green tea
- fish especially salmon and trout
- garlic
- turmeric
- cinnamon
- cherries
- olive oil
- walnuts
- sweet potatoes
- cabbage
- cauliflower
- broccoli
- Asian mushrooms
- blueberries
- strawberries

If you need or want anymore information about RAD, read all the posts on this team. There's a lot of good information. And, check out the Arthritis Foundation's website.

Take care.

I have been away from Sparkpeople about a year now. I have continued with my weight loss and I am within 10 pounds of where I want to be. I was very recently diagnosed with RA by my regular doctor and I just had my first set of lab work done with the Rhuematologist. He has given me prednisone to get the swelling down and therefore lessen the pain and I go back to see him in a week and a half. He wasn't real clear on this but I am guessing we will get a medication/treatment plan going at that time. I think I was still in the shock stage when I saw him because when I was there I couldn't think of any questions to ask. Could kick myself for that. So now I have a paper and pen handy at all times to write down questions when I think of them so I will have a reminder to ask them when I see him next.

I am 63 years old. I live alone, my husband died in 2006. I have 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. When the RA hit I was walking close to 5 miles a day and eating high protein low carb.

Now I am looking to get back to my walking, building up slowly and my handcrafts for the joints and for my stress level. I am very thankful for the fact that I have retired. My work was a very high stress position along with a hostile work environment. I know that also contributed to this diagnosis. I had a breakdown almost 2 years ago from work.

I am also now looking for the best food choices for improvement also. If anyone has any suggestions or information on healthy eating with RA I would greatly appreciate any and all information.

Peace to all,
