I've been thinking of my fitness goals for the new year. I want to pick goals that keep me athletic, and also have a motivating element. I love to hike and am working my way up and down the 48 4000 footers in NH [48 mountains that are 4000' or higher]. I've done 10 and will keep going, but I wanted a way to track all the other walking, elliptical, swimming and biking mileage I do separate from hiking. Then I thought of the Appalachian. I as a little bummed to find that the mileage is much higher than I expected. But then I thought I could set a goal to virtually hike half of it in the upcoming year. I think it works out to an average of ~20 miles per week which seems challenging, but manageable.
I am excited to find a group on SP where others are making a virtual journey on the trail as well.
