My highest weight was 185, and I am very short, so that weight on me was big. That is when I started hiking, and that is really what has taken the weight off. I wasn't carring a full pack, but I was doing day hikes with my big pack,a nd as i have lost weight and I now backpacking and losing even more. The gym has also helped. Walking on the treadmill at an incline or doing hills has really worked for me.

Hi Shoe, Where in GA are you. I am going to be living in Dahlonega..as soon as I sell my house.

Have you done much on the AT? I started hiking with the weight you have ..and with the pack on.. that is a LOT of weight to cart around. I am amazed you are out now doing! Good for you! I would never think of going out until I am much much lighter and also in ..way better shape.

I forgot I was a member of spark people until raftngirl mentioned it so I joined the group. It was kind of scary to see that I went from 215 to 245 in the 2 years since I had signed up here. But in defense I did quit smoking in that time frame which is a defenite positive.

If anyone is in the Georgia area and wants to go hiking let me know. I am currently unemployed and have all the time in the world :)
