I was asked to share my story so here it goes. It all started Jan. 2001 when I fell on the ice and was knocked out while teaching at an Elem. school. This left me with severe head and neck pain. I have a lot of nerve damage. In Nov. 2002,I was having a lot of trouble with my stomach and the gastro Dr. felt it was because of my meds. He noticed I had a problem with the big D and I said yes, all my life. I have blamed it on colon cancer that I had from the time I was 12-15 years old. That in its self is a very long story. I had all of my colon and a tumor removed from my right side. When I was in for my annual colonoscopy,he wanted to do a upper scope also. In doing so he took a biopsy that highly suggested CD. I had the blood work done and it was about 260. So I am told I have CD. I have worked many times getting myself GF but the lowest number is 7 and I have been told it needs to be 0 for me to heal. I was very frustrated with the 7 and kinda of just gave up and cheated with a bite here and there. My biggest problem is cross contamination. It is now believed my colon cancer was because of CD. I had been to so many Drs. for stomach pain that I can't count them. Many Drs. said it was just my nerves. I was alway very thin and underweight for years. In 1977 I was told I was allergic to wheat and had HD. I now know most people who have DH usually have CD also. I went on a wheat free diet but failed miserably and gave up. The Dr. who told me I had HD told me I should never have children and that again is another long story. We have been blessed with two beautiful daughters. One is a lawyer and the other will graduated from Oklahoma Christian U. in Dec. with a degree in mechanical engineer. My oldest has been married one year and the youngest was married last Aug. 2007. In regards to my present weight I am about 15 lbs heavier than last year and don't really know why. Yes, I do over eat once in a while, but in general I eat healthy. I would like to get down to 135 and that is a weight that I reached in 2000 while going to WW. I had gained a bunch of weight when I lost my mobility to walk. I went from about 135 to 185. I had surgery on both feet a total of 5 times before I became mobile again and started losing weight. I see this is a little scatterbrained but... here it is.
Welcome! This is a great place to be to help you get back on track. Sometimes it is very motivating to feel so much better once you are back on track, and that helps the weight loss. Perhaps you can share some recipes with us here.
I am not new to Celiac but new to SP. I was diagnosed by accident about 4 years ago. I was doing well in regard to my eating and weight until recently and I just got frustrated and gave up on the watching what I eat. I MUST get serious again, but lack support. I was a part of another forum, but felt it no longer fit me. I still go there often as they have a wonderful recipe source. I have never had a lot of trouble losing weight until recently and I don't know why. Anyway I am hoping to get all parts of my life healthy again. I look foreward to being a part of this group.
