I agree they should be tested. It is important to understand the difference between Celiac Disease, Gluten Intolerance and a Wheat allergy. Here is an article that may help. www.livestrong.com/article/421731-di

And I am just saying people should get tested (if they want a difintive answer) before they go off wheat or gluten because once you stop eating it the antibodies are no longer in your blood stream and you could test negative for wheat/gluten allergies.

PLEASE NOTE, Celiac Disease and gluten sensitivity are NOT allergies. You should have a blood test done to identify if you have Celiac Disease, gluten sensitivity or allergies. The difference in treatment and diet are HUGE! A gluten free diet involves much more than wheat avoidance.
Please read some of the recommended reference materials. Your local library should have some books or go to websites such as the University of Maryland, Celiac.org, etc. Peoples' blogs are not always a reliable source since they often quote wrong or out of date information.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. When I was a teenager (many moons ago) I had allergy testing done because I've had asthma since I was 12. I was found to be allergic to peanuts and cockroaches. However, I still eat peanuts/peanut butter. I'm thinking this may have something to do with the continuing problems. Although, it is no where near what I used to live with. I ate one slice of sourdough toast last Saturday while I was out with friends and I had the worst headache in over a decade. I was like yep, I'm done with wheat.

Hello and welcome to the team! I discovered my sensitivity to wheat in a similar way. I would strongly to advise you and others who are thinking about going gluten-free to get allergy tested before you do so! I am about a year in on this diet and still have some issues as well, but I have pretty much cut out all wheat and so the smallest amount makes me sick now. My doctor said that to do accurate allergy testing that I would have to go back on wheat for like 4 weeks! At this point I think that would kill me! I am into craft beers and so for the longest time that is the only thing I said I wouldn't give up, but after having just half of one at a superbowl party and being as sick as a dog the whole next day, I gave that up too :( Now I'm just going to make my own gluten-free beer!

Welcome!
Wheat is just one aspect of a gluten free diet. Cindy gave very good advise. I also recommend checking out our sticky topics. There is so much information that our team members have contributed over the years that this team has been active.

Depression is anger without the motivation.

I think depression runs rampant in society today because we are all so obsessed with making a living instead of living our lives.

Live your dreams, it's not as hard as it may seem...On your hopes you must lean...From your fears you have to wean yourself.

Welcome! The continuing issues could be many things. The most common is dairy, then soy, corn, peanut, and egg. Try looking at those first.

Welcome to the team.

Dorothy

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

Hi all! My name is Laura and I'm finishing my Master of Public Health degree in May in New Mexico. In June, I'll be moving to the Dallas area. I've been gluten-free for about 6 weeks now. I was getting horrible headaches and digestive issues and I narrowed the food suspect down to wheat. I certainly feel better, although have had some tummy problems. Maybe I'm allergic to something else or it could be stress. I'm like a detective! I'm really excited to join the group and get tips/hints especially with healthy GF recipes and quick/easy food options. Thanks in advance!
