I'm back at SP because I recently decided to go gluten free and I love the trackers here for keeping tabs on diet and nutrition.
I am self-diagnosed gluten intolerant. (When I mentioned the idea to my doctor, she just rolled her eyes.) I have had GERD for the past 4 years or so, and have been on PPIs for most of that time. Eating was becoming an awful experience. Every time I tried to eat pizza or a sandwich my throat would close up and I'd have to down lots of water just to swallow.
When I read The Wheat Belly Diet, I realized that wheat might be causing a lot of my troubles. Actually for a long time I've KNOWN that I feel better without wheat, but realizing a lot of the medical problems I was developing might get better after eliminating it was the final spur I needed for change.
I haven't (knowingly) had any gluten since Jan 2. And awesomely enough I haven't had any choking while eating!!! Still dealing with going off the PPIs though, but getting better all the time.
