Been to Denali, and was fortunate enough to get invited to fly to Prudhoe Bay once (dipped the ole toes in the Arctic Ocean as some people do.) Anyway - pretty SPECTACULAR, huh?!
emoticon Good for you on your clean bill of health - we should all be so lucky!!!

Couldn't imagine living anywhere but here. Spent 10 years in the bush north of Fairbanks, left for a short time to help family in North Dakota and now on the road system well outside of Palmer. Had all my vitamins checked, blood work done, etc...clean bill of health. It's so wonderful to feel so good.

emoticon Welcome Alaska celiac.

Congrats on feeling so well, that's just wonderful.

I used to live in AK ... wish my doc at the time'd thought to check me for celiac cause of my FIERCE depression and bone pain. I really think it was vitamin D deficiency - have you checked yours?

We miss it, but mostly the summers, people, salmon and halibut, the moose, scenery, .. okay, just not the looong winters. Are you counting the minutes of light?

We hope to hear from you often.

Welcome. I still do not have a diagnosis, but know that I feel better and some symptoms lessen when I eat less gluten. I seem to be ok when I eat say one piece of bread a day vs something like pasta WITH bread. The aftermath is not good. Got tired of going to the dr, so quit trying to figure it out, honestly. Last week went to the GYN, who's now putting me through some tests and I'll get the results next week (because she's on vacation). She thinks I have fibroids and endo. In reading about endo I now see that they suggest not eating wheat to help heal the inflammation. And it can cause food intolerances, so I'm now really wondering if it's been my problem the whole time. But, until I talk with the dr again I guess I'll still be in the dark. I am trying to not eat bread, but so far all gluten free bread i've tried doesn't compare.

Again, welcome...
Carla

I was diagnosed with celiac four years ago this week and it was the best thing to ever happen to me. I had been sick for so long going to doctor after doctor and no one knew what was wrong. I even had one specialist tell me it was all in my head. Finally, a doctor in Bismarck got it right. I'd never heard of it, although I had a wheat allergy as a child according to my parents. I never play with the diet and know immediately if I've eaten something in a restaurant that has wheat in it. Life has been wonderful since following the diet. I must admit that when I was first diagnosed, I actually went through a brief period of mourning over all the foods I'd never be able to eat again! BUT - I already had damage to my small intestines, so I was rejoicing in knowing that I was able to stop the damage and reverse it by eating correctly. Now, it's but a distant memory of all the foods I no longer eat. Life is wonderful!
