What do we do for protein if we don't have meat, fish, diary, beans, WHEY, and beans. I also have IBS, which seems to be going away with many foods I consume, aince I am going gluten free.

Virgo - that was fast. It wasn't so fast for me. However, I know what you mean about being hungry before gf diet. I experienced what I thought was "early satiety" after the gf diet. My gastroenterologist didn't know what I was talking about when I brought it up at my followup appt. I've heard it many times from others here and there.

IMSANDRAD - boy I feel for you on the not liking meat (I'm not a fan, but manage). Protein is good for satiety and feeds the muscles and helps repair tissues, too. Have you thought about smoothies with protein powders (soy, rice, whey), tofu, or do you eat eggs? There's the rice and beans route also, but they have a lot of carbs which may or may not be an issue for you.

I have found that after about a 3-5 days GF my craving for the carbs goes away...I assumed it was because I had an overgrowth of candida.

Dotslady, I have no idea what the bloating was all about, but eating gluten free really helped. I know I should eat low-carb but I really have a difficult time of it. I am not a big meat eater, I don't like fish and I have high cholesterol so I really shouldn't eat a lot of cheese. If I only eat veggies and fruit I feel deprived and get mean as "heck". (LOL) I am trying to do better though. I have cut way back on sugars (Candy and gluten free treats) and try to limit my beverages to water or decaf coffee. I have gained some of my weight back and I hate it.

HI, again, I am also hyprothyroid on meds. The gluten food is high calorie but I find much more filling. You regular food you can eat, it is only your carbs. I get mine from IKE'S Market, which also owns BASHAS, Food City and some other market. I don't know where you live so as Dot said go to a health food store or look on site or in the yellow pages.

VIRGO--As my doctor told me, just eat like you have celiac disease. Why spent the money and put your body through the tests. I trust what he tells me.

Hello everyone,
Today my family doctor nurse called me & tell me all my tested negative a the clinic (blood test).I kind of know that. Because he did only antibody blood tests. I ask for full Celiac Panel.

DOTSLADY,
i told him about my stomach pain & he want me to have an ultrasound. i know that was unnecessary to
have it. but i though oh well........
one more question i have, is who do the small intestinal biopsy. GI doctor right. do i have to have
this test done. if i don't. I do not want to spend the money on the test.if i start taking gluten out of my diet i will be fine.

Hi Virgo2008. I'm glad you've been reading about celiac - I hope you can find a copy of Gluten FRee Living for Dummies. You really should be eating gluten foods for as long as possible prior to having a blood test. If labs are inconclusive or you really want to, you can then have the sm. intestinal biopsy. We've talked about this before; consider reading the forum's Sticky Topics. There's such a range and the subject can fill pages.

Also consider reading about candida/yeast problems, Lyme's Disease, other food allergies, and healing a leaky gut. I've never heard of having an ultrasound as a diagnostic tool for a celiac diagnosis. Maybe the doc is looking for something else? If you know, do tell.

I don't have those grocers to be able to tell you if they carry gf bread, but you can always google "gluten free bread" and get company names (EnerG, Kinnickinnick (sp?), Glutino for example) and check their sites for local availability. They're most likely available at your local health food store. We have a thread about bread, too. Celiac.com has a forum which is very active, you can check there too. More and more, because of interest and awareness for this need, we're seeing gf foods marketed as such - maybe you could ask your grocer for what you need and see it happen sooner than later!

IMSANDRAD - with PCOS is bloating only from wheat or what other causes? Do you know? I've read a low-carb diet is recommended for PCOS, and Mary Shomon, thyroid guru/goddess also recommends a low-carb diet for thyroid sufferers (one of three diets).

Good for you on losing that weight though. Forty pounds is A LOT! :)

Virgo - good luck on your appt. You gotta work WITH your doc, so I hope communication is good. Keep us posted, k?!

IMSANDRAD - MY neurologist told me the same thing but he said not to bother with a Biopsy, I have enough problems & symptoms. Since I have tried to go gluten free (I am not totally there yet) I feel so much better.

Good luck with the doc appointments. My doc told me the only sure way to diaganose Celiac is to do a biopsy. So keep that in mind.

I have Celiac Disease and have known for a couple of years. When I firt started eating gluten-free I lost 40 lbs and about 4 pant sizes! I don't understand why I can't be one of those skinny gluten free people but I was really bloated. I have since found out that I have Hashimotos and PCOS.I also take medicine for depression. I think they are all connected, but my doctor kind of pooh-poohd that idea. I still think he is wrong but whatever.
Since I started eating gluten free, I have felt much better. My check-ups at the dentist are usually cavity free because I am absorbing more calcium, I have a higher iron level when they check my blood and my breath is better. (So says my husband) Anyway, I hope you get a lot of answers and information at your doctor appointment and if not, there is a ton of information on the net.
Good luck!

Good luck with your doctor on your doctors visit on Tuesday. I have never been diagnosed but I do listen to my body. My body doesn't do well with a lot of food. I know I have CD and my doctor told me the blood test won't always show it. When I talked to him and told him my problems, he felt I was right.

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2004 and was so hoping that all of my symptoms would go away once my thyroid level was where it should be. It took a year for my levels to come down, and while I felt a little better, I just never felt great. I had absolutely no reason or idea to suspect celiac disease. No one had ever mentioned it to me at all Till i read DOTSLADY SP Page. Thanks you so much. I never know what is going on with me till i read your page. I have all the Celiac Disease Symptoms. But i did not know that. after reading Dotslady's page i read lot about Celiac Disease. that open my eyes.
no doctor told me i could have CD. they just keep doing all other test to see what is wrong with me. I already had 2 autoimmune diseases. Which took me long time to diagnosed. This Monday i go to see my family doctor & gave all the info. He listen to me & did lots of blood tests. I am going back to see him next Tuesday. I will let you know all. I need lots of info. about CD.i read a as much i can or i get time.
