To MOPPET4 ~ I was curious too about what clean eating is. I found some answers at this site: http://www.thegraciouspantry.com/what-is-c
lean-eating/

I am 66 and also have a non existent metabolism (due to age but mostly 2 medications I need). Exercise will kick start your metabolsim and is free.

I didn't realize the true clean eating is vegetarian/vegan. And also it doesn't necessarily involve weight loss unless you want it to.

Good luck

Hi I just found this team. I believe eating clean is what we used to do. My husband had a huge organic garden. I canned and froze vegetables and fruit. We couldn't afford junk food or eating out. My kids remember "snacking" in the garden on peas and carrots.

I'd love to get back to some semblence of that, even though we cannot garden where we live. I do buy organic as I can find it though.

Are sugar and gluten considered NON clean eating? I use King Arthur flour (no filler) and Florida Natural Crystals (organic) sugar. Both in moderation and not often.

I have been working out with a trainer for awhile but my results have not been as good as I would like because I keep sabotaging myself with out of control eating. Aloha,

I'm Kristen and actually didn't choose to eat clean, I had to eat clean or else. I have been battling all sorts of ailments, and the biggest one was Intestinal Permeability aka the leaky gut syndrome. Western doc's did no good for me, so I went to a naturopathic. He put me on a 2 week cleanse and I felt extremely great. My diet consisted of a Paleolithic diet aka the cave man diet. I started making green/fruit smoothies for breakfast with a scoop of VEGA. For the last two months I have been feeling amazing, and then my weakness caved in. ALCOHOL. I'm not an alcoholic but I enjoy having a few drinks over the weekend. Well I went out with my bf and the next day UTI. ANTIOBIOTICS can be the DEVIL, and it is in my case. It completely destroys my natural flora, so now I'm back to square one. Eating super clean, taking probiotics, and no alcohol. I find that I need to plan my meals because if I don't I completely derail. It's definitely a challenge for me, but I'm in it for the long haul.......

Hello Eating Clean!! After reading through OxygenMag I now want to try to eat clean 5xday to hopefully drop weight because nothing I've done so far has worked. I've been trying to eat clean for the last 6wks and lost ZERO pounts. Met with a trainer today and they told me I need to be eating 1800 cals/day instead of 1200 and to try eating breakfast for dinner and vise versa so my heaviest meal is in the morning. I joined this thread to get some encouragement from awesome people who have seen results from eating clean. Excited to be here.

Hello! I'm Angie, I live in Chicago, and I have been through a lot of food issues these past few years! An attempt to get digestive trouble under control led to me going 100% gluten-, casein (dairy)-, soy-, egg-, peanut-, corn- and sesame-free for about a year and a half! Nearly a year in, coinciding neatly with my recent fibromyalgia diagnosis, I FINALLY had my first day with NO digestive distress! Now, after more like a year and half, I have been able to add sesame, shrimp, corn and even eggs back in! But I have little intention of ever doing so for gluten, and frankly I feel I am better off without much casein or soy either. (I can tolerate goat's and sheep's milk, which I feel is preferable anyway since those animals are typically not loaded with the hormones and antibiotics and such that cows mostly are.)

So! This process led me straight into clean eating, also avoiding sugar as much as possible. I've since slipped a little bit (it was pretty exciting to finally be ABLE to eat an allergen-free cookie!) and I'm joining this team as a motivator to re-removing most foods in boxes or with labels from my life! I don't know if I'll ever make it 100%, but I do know I feel good, proud and confident when I am making informed and mindful food choices.

Hi my name is Susana. I am from Ohio. I decided I needed to join yet another group, one that incorporated the same feelings I have on eating whole natural foods. I love my other teams greatly. I just need something else, a place where people want to eat clean like me. I am not saying that I never indulge in a restaurant meal, but I eat primarily at home, at least 28 days a month. My hubby and I eat completely different. If it is healthy, he doesn't want it. Tho he has learned to eat whole wheat pastas and edamame. So he cooks for himself most of the time.

I taught myself to eat to live, instead of living to eat. Now, I eat good food, almost the way mom cooked, without the salt and fat. Only whole foods for me, yippee!!

Don't envy my determination, join me for the ride.....

Hi there, My name is Rose, from PA. I've been here on SP since Spring but just found this team. Clean eating is exactly what I have been striving for. I've made good progress in cleaning up my diet but still need improvement. I'm happy to report that I eat (and enjoy) lots of veggies daily and I've learned to like fruit. I'm eating fruit instead of sweets. I rarely eat processed food and cook most foods from scratch. But sometimes eat out or have potato chips (oh no). I'm looking forward to interacting with you all. emoticon

IF NOT NOW, THEN WHEN?

When I eat crap, I feel like crap.

Hey Eating Cleanies,

I've been a member of SP since 2007 but this year has been a bit of a slow one for me. I'm trying to get back on track with my fitness mainly. I'm back on SP and don't know why I let go in the first place. I love this place, the teams, the message boards, and all the good stuff on here. I've been a member of Eating Clean for awhile as well and I'm back to hang out and just listen or talk too.

Hey!!!

Hi, I am Sandee. I am just getting into the routine of using SPARK again. I was part of this group when I was active on SPARK before. I always got great information and support on this group. I follow Tosca's blogs, Facebook page and have all her books. I am married and have 2 kids (19 & 16) and work full time. I like to run and do yoga. After returning to Spark I found that most of my old Spark Friends have disappeared or are inactive at this time. So I would be interested in some new friends with like interests and goals.

Hey, I'm Juliane! I cannot remember if I did an intro before or not so here it goes again...
I started a new chapter of my life this summer and finally found the courage, strength, and perseverance to start losing weight and eating healthier. I started at about 154lb and have lost a little over 20 lbs. I have a sensitivity to gluten so I have worked on cutting that from my diet. In the process I have read more and more about green/clean eating and have really taken an interest.

I have been attempting to follow the Tone It Up diet/lifestyle plan and thought that this group would help keep me accountable and on track with it. The plan is all about eating clean, unprocessed foods and I really need that!

I appreciate the support this group provides and hope to become more active on the boards over the next few weeks as I start to take my journey SERIOUSLY! emoticon

Hello, I'm Angelina. I am 24 and try to eat clean for the most part. It's a little tough sometimes because I travel for work and eat out for at least two meals a day. I want to become more dedicated and learn more about clean eating to help shed my last 5-8 lbs. Hoping this spark team can help me do just that.

I've started my journey into clean eating several years ago and have really just started to pay more attention to what I'm putting into my grocery cart. My family and I have recently bought into a CSA and we are LOVING IT (although the bounty has been slim because of the drought). I find that 95% of what we eat is essentially clean except I still buy dreaded soda!!! We also just watched a few documentaries regarding our food supply and it has really inspired us to grow our own, shop local and get me interested in raising our own chickens (I can't do that yet...neighborhood ban).

Was doing well, then Father passed and stress took me over, then got sick, was given a med that put my sugar down so low I could hardly walk and was so hungry I could hardly stand it. Put on 39 of the 100 pounds I had lost. Then I asked for help, and so many came to my aid... I also joined Spark Coach and I can't say enough good things about it. Going to become an Assistant Leader for a team now and my motivation and the will to eat whole and clean is rocket my world.

New to the team, new to the concept of Clean-eating. I started eliminating sugar and refined foods from my diet about 2 months ago. I've since found Tosca's books and info which have given me a direction to follow.

I'm a 55 yo empty nester with 2 furbabies. I work full time and right now have about 1 hour's commute both ways.

I've been on SP for awhile, lost some weight emoticon , gained some weight emoticon , and have a doctor, God love him, who is gonna be ALL UP IN MY FACE if I haven't started getting my act back together by the next time I see him. So this morning, I reset my goals, exercised, and started looking for clean, and easy, eating ideas.

Then I looked at the [redacted] in the candy dish, and the [redacted] that I love so much that people give them to me for Christmas, and said, "What was I thinking?"

Then I cooked up some beans, tomatoes, and quinoa for lunch, because I CAN do this. Am I right?

Hi! I am just joining this team. I used to be more of a clean eater when I was younger. Consequently, I was also my smallest... I've been trying to get back to it off and on for a few months. This will be my second week really commiting to it. I already notice a difference! I'm 26, a mother to a beautiful 3 yr old daughter, and a wife to an amazing husband. Im hoping to lose some weight and feel good. Come look at my page to see more of my story...

Started eating clean about 3 weeks ago and have noticed a huge difference in my energy level and over all health. I just turned 50 and had been feeling sluggish, tired and just plain blah. I have also been quite concerned with the all the stuff that is going into our food, especially meat with inadequate oversite. I picked up a clean eating magazine at the grocery store and decided to try it - going organic too.

Hello!
I belonged to this team a little while ago, because I love the idea of clean eating. I didn't realize at the time, Tosca Reno was the inspiration for the team . Duh. Sooo, I bought her book, agreed with her philosophy (but no cosmetic surgeries will be in my future, thanks) and just ordered one of her cookbooks to really focus.

I too like to cook, I have a cool breast cancer awareness cooler I pack for work, (cooler 2 plan usually, but I am rethinking that) and I really could use a group who understands the reason that, "oh, just have the salad with all the crunchy fried things and candied nuts" is not an option for fueling my body.

Looking forward to the journey.

PEace,
Fran

I'm Andrea, and my focus is to take off ~50 lbs of fat.

I've been focusing on cleaner eating, no processed foods, and cooking healthier for the whole family. I, too, enjoy knowing what exactly is in my food, and also enjoy going to off-the-beaten path chef-owned restaurants that use local fare.

I'm walking almost every day and focusing on getting exercise without the possibility of huge injuries (walking and power-walking in the pool work well for me at this weight). I look forward to being an athlete once again and adding in different exercises once more weight comes off.

I hope to learn a lot from this team!

Hi everyone! I do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and fortunately, I love them! I'm Diabetic T2 and recently took a glycemic index class. I'm on a quest to live healthy and find that knowledge is power. The more I learn, the better choices I make. Some is common sense, some is not! I'm hoping to become more active on this team--but to start, I intend to do a lot of reading because I think I can learn from all of you!

Glad I found you!

Hi Everyone! I recently watched the show Nature of Things with David Suzuki about all the toxins in our food and surroundings and it scared the beejeezus out of me. I have recently made small changes in my own home that I hope will be beneficial for myself and my family! Now that I am on the track with the weight loss i am trying to incorporate healthier options for me and my toddler(little hard but I will keep trying). I am excited to have found this group and look forward to sharing tips and healthier lifestyle choices with everyone!!

Hello everybody!

Eating clean has appealed to me for a while, but I never felt the need to actually put it into action. I watched the documentary "Forks Over Knives" two days ago and it has changed the way I look at food and my body. I have never before been so convinced to make a change NOW.

Right away I made up a meal plan for the week, and grocery shopping yesterday involved a lot more healthy foods...the most I've probably ever had in my cart.

I am only on day 3, and I am already noticing I am feeling better. That is amazing to me.

I am trying to up my water intake, exercise 3-5 days a week and now, of course, clean up my diet.

I am excited to be a part of this group!

Hi!

I am new to the Eating Clean Team! I started eating clean about 6 weeks ago! It was sort of an accidental journey that started with some articles on the Dr. Oz website weaved itself onto Pinterest.com that lead to more internet searches and trips to the library. Finally culminating in several trips to Trader Joe's and purchases on Amazon.com. My goal when I started back on Sparkpeople.com was to eat a healthy balanced diet and track my sodium and cholesterol. The more I looked at labels.....the more the processed foods went out the window, the more fruits and veggies came into the picture and the less meat I seemed to be eating. I then started adding smoothies and different lists of 'Superfoods' into the picture.

In the last six weeks I have discovered chia seeds, kale, quinoa and lentils! Oh..I knew they were out there ....they just weren't in my pantry! I switched to almond milk which I put in everything and on my cereal. I still have a way to go with Eating Clean but I am very happy with my progress! I haven't had fast food in over 2 months. I have given up my Lean Cuisine meals and I am feeling better than ever!

Hello! I recently joined the Green Smoothies Lover team. This team appears to compliment the smoothie team. I read "How to YOU eat clean on a budget?" on this message board and found the thegraciouspantry link and thought, "How cool! I can do this."

I'm happy to be here. emoticon

Blessings...

Hi, I'm new to this group. I stopped eating processed foods and added sugar back in March. We've also gone to organic fruits and vegetables. It's amazing how much better I feel - and how much better the fruits and veggies taste without all the "distractions." Losing weight has been a nice benefit as well :-)

Hi, I have been working on cutting out processes foods, and to eat organic whenever I can. My weaknesses seem to be diet sodas and pizza. Despite that, the positive changes in lifestyle this year have resulted in a 52 pound weightless so far. I have hit a bit of a plateu and still have about 25 pounds to go to reach my goals.

Life is good, and is getting better....

Hi everyone! I'm 31 and after reading many blogs and watching lots of food documentaries, I'm finally ready to make a positive change in my lifestyle. I do need lots of motivation since I always seem to let life get in the way of my goals. Looking forward to a new beginning and making lots of SparkBuddies on this journey!

Hi! I just joined today. I've been eating clean on and off for a couple of years and grew up eating pretty clean. Luckily, I grew up in a foodie family and eating veggies has never been a big problem. Though I was a little picky as a child I'm now an adventurous eater. Right now I'm eating quite a lot of raw foods cause there are so many delicious goodies at the farmer's market.

Anyway, have a good one!

Welcome to the group, everyone! I am relatively new to clean eating, as well! My struggle is with family and friends who do not worry about eating clean emoticon

I think this will be a great group for all of us to keep each other accountable, share tips and tricks, and maybe learn some cost-effective ways to eat clean on college/tight budgets! emoticon

Hello, I'm Trista and I'm just starting with some clean eating. I'm looking to incorporate it more into my diet. I feel that I already eat somewhat clean being gluten-intolerant and I'm not able to rely too much on processed foods. But I'm excited to learn more. :)
