Hello everyone! I'm fairly new to SparkPeople, but so far I LOVE it! I have already learned so much, and look forward to being part of a team that believes in clean eating. I had never actually heard the term until about 6 months ago from my Pilates instructor. Since then, I have been very fascinated. My husband and I have been trying to clean up what's on our plates...actually just been trying to eat off of real plates instead of from a paper bag at a fast food restaurant for about 7 months now. Since we have cleaned out the fast food runs and "celebration" foods, we have felt tremendously better. We have been married a little over a year and really wanna clean up our act! emoticon

Hi everyone, I have been on this journey for a long time. Everytime I reach my goal, I seem to give myself permission to "celebrate" and then I'm on this same road, again. Praying this time is the right time for me. I am 52, daughters are grown, my first grandbaby is 6 months and I have been married for 33 years. My goal is to lose about 32.7 pounds by October 15th, 2012.

Accidentally removed this team off of my page instead of another. Doh! Ihad to remove the page where one participant was ok with, ahem- sorry about this folks, she was ok with having a bowel movement "once or twice a week". Wow. Didn't seem like a good place to be. So I wanted to get off of there, but deleted you guys instead. Sigh. This is why I do not work on computers. I would surely blow something up. LOL

Thanks AnneV, for sharing our common story! Boy the 40's hit and kablooey, huh? Momma warned me about this....

Really am looking forward to learning and being healthy. thanks everyone!

Hi Fran,

"I am a recovering vegetarian"
LOL Me too!

I was vegetarian for 20+ years, until, in my late 40s, with "the change" my stomach would no longer tolerate so many grains and soy products.
Today I eat only organic, and "line-caught" meat products, very little soy, and am experimenting with gluten-free foods too.

Hello All,
I am a recovering vegetarian whose Dr. just recommended I eat more lean meats and stay away from soy because of a little health scare. I cannot bring myself to follow some low carb diet that is ok with 60% fat intake, so I clicked around to find this good looking site. :)

Looking forward to learning and sharing.

Peace,
fran

Hello. My name is Liz and I recently turned 30. This is a crazy year for me -- I am getting married in October, finishing my thesis this semester, buying a new house, work full time, and try to have some of social life. I have noticed in the last few years, that when I eat clean I feel so much better! This is not to say I always follow it, but know it is something that pays huge dividends. I am looking forward to getting tips and encouragement from this team.

Hi my name is Laura, I have been with Sparkpeople a few years off and on but now at it again for good this time. I have type 2 diabetes and am starting a new healthy lifestyle. I have stopped taking my prescription meds and am learning about natural eating/lifestyles. So far I am feeling better. I am taking baby steps and hope to learn more through this group..not just for me but for my husband and 6 year old as well.

Hey everyone! I'm vegan and I try very hard to eat as clean as possible. The only processed foods I eat (which is rare), I tend to buy from the natural food store (quinoa burgers, etc). But this past spring I spent a lot of time in the USA (I live in Belgium) and got a little (a lot) addicted to Taco Bell and Oreos. Ugh. Clearly I gained a lot of weight and wasn't eating nearly enough nutrients.

I'm working to get back to my former methods of eating, and I am so happy to find this team to use as a tool for inspiration and support.

Here's to healthy eating!

Hi, my name is Angie. I used to be on Spark a few years ago under a different name but wanted a new name since I'm doing a clean start. I have been exercising and changing my eating habits as of only May 22 of this year! So not very long. I am also type 2 diabetic. I'm doing well so far and look forward reading through the posts to get some more helpful hints on how to eat cleaner and less processed!

Take Care!

hey! I have been on SP for waaay to long since I always get sidetracked and never actually lose weight. I realize I'm getting to the age where things are not a easy to burn off like they use to be. I would like to get into a routine that is comfortable for myself so I can pass on healthy habits to my family. Ill be started grad school in the fall, so I know things are going to be tough and I would like to know I have my eating habits and health in mind before the next step!

Hello to all! I used to eat clean, and I was the healthiest I'd been in my entire life. I am now committing to eating clean again, and have been doing so for the past 3 days. I found this team today, and I am glad I am here!

Hi everyone!

I've been a fan of clean eating for a while now but sometime this winter I got way, way, way off track. I'm not sure how someone who joined a CSA last summer, shops at the farmer's markets, and genuinely doesn't like chips ends up eating fast food 5-6 times a week but that's me. I had been wanting to make a change so when a friend suggested trying cleaning eating together for 3 weeks I said I was in. Today is day 7 for me of no added sugar, caffeine, alcohol, gluten, dairy or meat. I'm feeling great, think I've (almost) broken my addiction to fast food. I'm looking forward to meeting other people who are interested in clean eating.

Hi I'm Melanie and new to this team but not new to SP. I really need to start eating better for myself and my son! He will be gone to his dads for 6 weeks during the summer and this will give me time to get used to it myself so I can then encorporate it with him. I look forward to learning more!

Good Morning and Hello!! I am new to this team. I need to clean up my eating. And I do believe that eating clean is the way to do that. I believe in the concept of putting real food and fuel into my body but have gotten too caught up in the convenience factor of quick foods and sugar. I want my body to perform well for me and I believe this is done best from clean eating and I want clean food to taste good to me.

Hi,

I read a book by Tosca Reno called "The Eat Clean Diet, Recharged". There are quite a few versions out now and she has written cookbooks as well. I got them from the library to see which I liked the most and then bought them. You can also subscribe to her website for newletters, etc.

Hope this helps, Good luck!!

My name is Kristen and I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. I have been looking to make some serious changes to my diet for a while now but haven't done it yet because of lack of knowledge and fear. I'm really glad to have found this group and I look forward to getting to know people and learning everything I can from everyone else here!
Cheers!

Hi! I just joined this team. I have been interested in nutrition and the food industry and eating clean since summer of 2009. After getting in the habit of it, I can't imagine going back to my old way of eating! I have more energy and feel healthier than I did 10 years ago. I started out by adopting a vegan diet, but have since reintegrated eggs, some dairy and fish oil. I will eat some meat on special occassions. I buy all organic and try to steer clear of most processed foods. It's more expensive and takes more time, but I believe my body is worth the investment. It's been fun learning to cook from scratch and trying new recipes too!

For those new to eating clean, I suggest you start by adding more fruits & vegetables, and cutting down on processed foods. From there, the transition to more detailed clean eating is easier.

Hello! I tried this a year or so ago, didn't stick with it, will be on spring break next week, so I thought that would be the perfect time to get back into the habit of eating clean. I will be able to experiment with cooking and making "real" food. I'm 7 pounds from goal and I need to get with the program so I can say emoticon emoticon

Hi folks,

I turned to a vegan diet two years ago during a PCRM Kickstart. My cholesterol had been extremely high all my life, and not exactly due to my diet, but animal products certainly didn't help my genetics. I took to it very well and enjoy the food. I always hated handling and cooking dead animals anyway. But last year after having a CT scan, it was determined that I had significant heart disease. I still follow my vegan lifestyle along with meds, but I must admit that due to the frustration of it all, I now realize that I've been overeating on fat free processed foods, i.e. pretzels. And I've gained weight which I'm sure isn't helping the heart disease.

Do you think having a buddy helps to be accountable. I just can't seem to just ignore the pretzels....If so, is anyone available to help?

Hi again! Recognized that what we have been feeling the past few days is actually a virus! It's been rough but I think the clean eating is helping us get better much faster! I know we are eating the right way and that our bodies ultimately love it but the past few days had me doubting a bit. So glad to know now that it's not because we're eating clean.
Here's to health and wellness!!

Hi. I was just introduced to eating clean by a trainer friend. I've read Tosca Reno's books and it makes complete sense. My family and I were eating a moderately healthy diet (fresh fruits and veggies, no pop, etc.) but I had slid into the convenience of processed foods. I felt fantastic right off the bat but in the past few days have felt nauseous and had cramping and 'interesting' bathroom experiences (tmi -sorry!). My husband is feeling the same way. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this and how long it lasted. We're committed to keeping on but wondered if anyone had any tips or words of wisdom.
Thanks! Very happy to be here!

Hi. I'm Sabrina. I used to be around here a few yrs back, but kind of dropped away for a while. I have a ways to go, but it's getting there...little by little. Mostly I've kept eating "clean", just not in great portions...and then there's the wine. Ugh.

Anyway, glad to be back! And I'm definitely looking into the super clean weekend!

emoticon I am a work in progress. It can be a bit challenging sometimes. My husband supports me as long as he eat his way. I can't always afford to shop for me. But I will not give up. emoticon

emoticon ANGELAA8.
You're right about preparation being the key. I find it so much easier to stay on track when I do my menu planning, and shopping "to order."

Hi everyone, I'm Angela. I'm trying to get to clean eating, I've done pretty well but sugar is a difficult one. Preparation is key! I'm starting this journey over....again....but this time I'm looking at it as a lifestyle change not a "diet".

Hi to all the new members, we're so glad you found us.

Julia, I completely hear you about the need to re-find the power. When we're busy and/or stressed, we tend to put ourselves second to what needs to be done. Instead, we should put ourselves first so we can COPE with everything!!! I think it's the nurturing genes built in to us?!?!?
Do you make "me time" a priority? Even if it's only 5-10 minutes a day, or your exercise time, it can help.

Rachel, listening to our bodies should be easy, but sometimes I think we have a tendency to be deaf to our own needs, over the needs of others.
I've found that the more I listen to my body's needs, the better I feel, and the more I can take care of others.
Recently, I've noticed that I'm becoming more (aware) of a sensitivity to gluten. If I ignored that, I'd be more uncomfortable and less able to care for family.

Jane & Linda, Oh the menopause!!! It's enough to make you want to dance in celebration and/or tear your hair out in frustration...I know, I've been there!!!
The key for me was to use the peri-menopause time to get back to me. To pay more attention to how my physical self was changing, and to deal with those changes in a way that was kind to me!

Mary, I'm with you about not buying packaged foods, sticking instead to as much fresh, unprocessed food as possible.

Again, emoticon

Hello! My name is Alex.

I had great success with clean eating while studying abroad for 6 weeks in the summer - my host family lived by it! I lost weight and felt great.

Now I am hoping to eat as clean as possible. Since I like to be active, I haev quite an appetite and have problems restricting calories. So, I try not to restrict calories, just bad foods! If its clean, its good for me!

Alex

I hope today and everyday you always find a reason to SMILE.

Hi! I am Jill. Been a member of SP since 4/2010. I live in Houston and live alone and am retired. I rarely buy prepackaged food. My down fall is pizza. I buy the veggie pizza's or put extra veggies on the pizza.
