Hi everyone! I'm Katie and new to eating clean. I got the idea from a friend who has lost weight and feels much better after Whole30 and other changes in diet over the past 2 years. I would love any advice/recipes. Right now I'm having toruble with breakfast ideas.. I've been doing an egg with veggies and a Morningstar sausage.. I know the MS isn't "clean" but I'm a vegetarian so will need to let go of some things slowly. Hope everyone is having a great day!! emoticon

Hello! I am LC. I am new to the team. I am transitioning into clean eating slowly, and basically just wanted to have a better outlet of information and support for the lifestyle since my family doesn't really get it.

New to the group! I was inspired to eat real foods a number of years ago when I read a book called In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a household where my parents valued cooking food at home from scratch and having family dinners, so the idea that real, unprocessed, "clean" foods are the way to go was not a far stretch in my line of thinking.

I'm looking forward to seeing how others interpret and incorporate this idea of clean eating into their lifestyles', as well as share how it has effected mine.

I've lost about 60lbs in my efforts to live a healthier lifestyle, and am looking to continuing those efforts and seeing what my body is capable of!

Hello!
I'm new to the team. I am just starting the "clean eating" lifestyle. I picked up a magazine of Clean Eating and was immediately trilled to find a way to eat, lose weight, increase my health without having to eat grains, which I am allergic to. Wheat is especially problematic for me. But veggies, fruit, and proteins are just wonderful.

I also have issues when eating too much bad fat, so I stay as far from saturated and trans fat as possible.

Looking to relaunch my weight loss and healthy way of living. I've been stuck where I am for a couple of years and want to lose another 50 pounds, if I can. Not sure how far down I can go, but will be waiting to get there to find out.

I found this great resource [Rich Food, Poor Food] https://www.caltonnutrition.com/rich

ood-poor-food/
on my favorite podcast [The Health Bridge] healthbridgeshow.com/

While I prefer to cook from scratch and use whole foods, this is a good way to discover the best picks in the grocery store - especially for those who are transitioning to clean eating.

I did some reading years back on the food industry. It is fairly appalling. You might want to check out Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and the Omnivore's Dilemma.

I'm in a stage where I just want to eat real food. If you can't pronounce it, don't eat it.

I am reading Joanna Blythman's "Swallow This" which is a real eye opener about the food industry. I've ordered another of her book's called "What to Eat" and have read the intro on the Amazon "look inside" feature. I'm realising I need a total overhaul of what I thought was a reasonably healthy diet. I am going to tackle this one step at a time! I've joined about 10 teams to do with clean eating, etc as I didn't know which one to pick! Looking forward to getting to know you all! :-)

Some of us make choices based on the "cleanest" things available for our lifestyle, budget and goals. Many people will disagree with you that oil and meat are summarily bad for you. I believe that healthy fats, in moderation, are great for you. I use ghee, butter, all sorts of nut oils.... I ordered an entire cow from a coworker/rancher that I know was grass fed and never given hormones and antibiotics. My beef is probably cleaner than most people's veg drawer. I bake my own bread with artisan flour milled in the US and unbleached. I use my own sourdough starter to make that happen.

I am new here, but I think the goal for everyone here is to share their "clean eating" experience. I do tend to eat a lot more meatless meals now, and that's ok too. Clean eating, however, is not vegan (necessarily).

Hey everyone! I'm Heather and I've been eating clean now for about a month. I was in Europe for 5 years and things were really difficult to adjust to back in the USA. Wow, do we eat crap or what? My busy life and hectic schedule led to really bad habits and about a 20 pound weight gain in a year. So, in mid-July, when none of my clothes fit, I decided to do something about it.

I started with a 2 week clean eating challenge put out by buzzfeed.

www.buzzfeed.com/christinebyrne/clea
n-
eating-2015

Then I took a "break" for less than a week and am now on my second round

www.buzzfeed.com/christinebyrne/clea
n-
eating-challenge

These plans take A LOT OF TIME and cost A LOT OF MONEY. So, after next week is over, I'll be experimenting with my own thing, including meal planning and recipes.

I was down 5 pounds the first two weeks. I will complete another 2 weeks this weekend and see what I get on Monday. I just wanna eat well, fit in my clothes and incorporate exercise in my life again.

I look forward to "meeting" you all.

Hi there! I'm Hana and always thought I was eating healthy (except for the occasional fast food and sweet treats). Having been living & eating in a more 'primal' way the past few months, I've learned that a lot of what I thought was good for me was not-so-much. I'm glad to be part of a team that (hopefully) won't glorify eating low-fat/low-calorie fake foods or high-sugar 'treats' "in moderation". I am on a quest for good health, not just weightloss, and I want all my SparkFriends to find that same success too!

Hi All,
I've been working at clean eating for some time now. I've come a long way over the years and am at a point where I eat clean most of the time and occasionally fall back into the processed food world. Clean eating had done a lot for me health wise, especially with my cholesterol. Numbers I couldn;t budge for years (unless on medication) are now normal because of the way I eat. I've also lost 50 lbs through clean eating and looking to lose another 50. Always interested in like minded folks and perhaps gather a few new recipe ideas.

Hey everyone I'm new here. I've dabbled in cooking as processed free as I can for a little while now. As of right now, I haven't cooked anything i about a month. I have a 2 1/2 yr old and a 4 1/2 month old so it's been a little difficult to find time for all of the cooking, so I have been taking a little break. I have decided that enough is enough and would like to finally have a healthy lifestyle and get to a healthy weight. I did sparkpeople several years ago, but lacked the key ingredient: discipline. A month ago when I was eating clean, I felt better about myself and when I went back to processed eating, my digestion was not happy with me. So here I am ready to finally combine the two of losing weight and eating clean. With your help and encouragement, I know I can do it! emoticon

Hi Everyone!
It's been awhile since I've been on spark people, and I'm ready to get back "in the game"! I'm excited and a little nervous about it too, my main struggle has been eating right and I'm hoping this group can help me find some ideas (especially with vegetables!! ) :) I'm also hoping I can be supportive for you all too, looking forward to chatting emoticon

Yes, perhaps this is not the kind of team you need for your goals. I do use butter and sugar in small amounts when I bake bread but I don't believe they are "bad" or "unhealth" when used in moderation. If you are looking for a plant-based diet, then perhaps you might try a vegetarian team forum.

Good luck!

thank you, Tallyfl.....this is what i am trying to do, too....but i guess my confusion is in what i see people eating here........for instance, bread.........the flour is processed, and usually in bread-making butter or oil is used, sometimes sugar, all of which are unhealthy....certainly all meats, including fish, poultry, and eggs are unhealthy if they are bought from traditional sources, like your local supermarket becuz of what they are fed...also becuz of what they do to our hearts, etc....have your read T. Colin Campbell's "the China Study" or any of Dr. Michael Greger's articles? and animal milks have all sorts of bad effects.....i guess the version of unprocessed eating that i see here is not what i am looking for....i am looking for WFPB, unprocessed..... i guess....(whole foods, plant-based)..thank you for your time and explanation...i guess i should look elsewhere.....

I can only speak for myself so it is not an "official" definition by any means but it means eating "whole" foods (fresh or frozen fruits and veggies, whole grains, fish, poultry and lean meats). It means avoiding processed foods...all the pre-packaged carbs, meals, etc. that are sold in the stores.

I want to get away from "chemical cuisine" where I can't pronounce the ingredients and have no idea what they are, what they are for and what they might do to my body. I make my own marinades, bake my own bread from scratch, make my own soups from scratch and have several whole grain side dishes that have only natural ingredients.

It means eating like I did as a child in the 50s before "convenience" took over the marketplace! Eating clean, for me, is similar to "slow-food".

Hi,
New to this team, on a journey to eating clean & natural since January of this year. I love fresh vegetables, salads, healthy sandwiches, soups, pies & stir fries out of organic & nutritional ingredients. I don't have much time to cook but I am trying to do it more & to plan meals. Just started blogging about some other goals in my life but I want to give some more attention to my eating habits. If you have similar goals, lets be friends & share ideas & achievements together!

I'm also new to this team. I would very much to eat clean all the time but life does get in the way...particularly while still in the workforce. It's just not always possible to cook from scratch and avoid the boxes!

Eating clean is a goal that I am working towards and hope to embrace fully once I retire.

Hi everyone!

I ate clean for a big chunk of last year and felt completely AMAZING!

Unfortunately I fell off the wagon a few months ago and am suffering for it now.

Hoping to get right back into it and feel all the benefits again.

Hello, I'm fairly new to clean eating, I love how great I feel without all those refined sugars and over processed foods. I hope to gain motivation to keep it up, I have found so far that cutting out coffee (which was the hardest thing), alcohol, and lots of carbs make me feel amazing. Unfortunately my husband is italian and he loves his pasta so that's a challenge for me, if anyone has some alternatives or suggestions I'm open!

Hi everyone!

I just turned 57 and am in pretty good shape. I exercise most days and try to eat healthy (most of the time.)

I am struggling to lose, and keep off, the last 10 lbs. If I can cut down/ eliminate / or make better choices in the evenings I know I could get there.

I am retiring in the spring and want this under control before my daily routines change forever.

Hi, I'm Carol. I'm starting Spark again - with plans for greater success this time!

I quit eating processed sugar 10 days ago. Yay! Probably a little sneaks in because my pantry isn't fully converted, but still, that was over Christmas and parties and it was no big deal to just avoid the sweets...I must be ready for the challenge!

I've been vegetarian most of my life and have a garden in the front yard that will have a big change this year too - our giant oak had to be cut and now we'll get gobs of sun (instead of 4 hours a day - great for lettuce and beans and little else!)

I look forward to learning great ways to connect in healthy ways with the food we eat.

One healthy step at a time

Hi, my name is Amy. I am new to the team, though I have been with Spark for a year. My weight loss got derailed when I had some physical and emotional issues come up last summer, but one of the commitments that I have made to myself for 2015 is that I will work consistently toward bettering my physical, mental and spiritual health, to help me to find balance in my life.

As I have been learning and preparing, I have become more and more concerned with eating clean foods, especially non-GMO foods. To be honest, the more I learn, the more concerned I become. I really want to change my eating habits and help my kids to change theirs. My youngest in particular is a junk food junkie and sugar demon.

I have 2 girls, ages 6 and 9, and 2 cats, ages 1 and 11. So I really need fast, healthy meals I can give them, as well as good lunch ideas. I am not a very talented cook, so any help is much appreciated. emoticon

Hello!

I'm new to the team. Have been on SP for exactly 1 year (today is my 1 year Sparkversary). My 16 year old daughter told me she wanted to do a whole foods diet for the month of January with me. This will be a big challenge for us (and I'm hoping we can get the whole family eating clean well past January....). We are not very organized as far as meal planning and grocery shopping and my husband and I both work full time. I really want to do this though. Hoping to find some tips and inspiration from this team.

Jodi

Hello!

I have been focusing on clean eating for a month as a means to feel more energized. I wasn't attempting to lose weight, but it happened. I loved it. I am looking forward to meeting others who are interested and sharing my future success story with all of you!

Hello! I've always tried to to some degree to eat nourishing, whole, minimally altered or unaltered foods so I joined this team hoping to find and share recipes and learn a few things. I was on Spark last year and followed a healthier lifestyle then left over the summer and gained back some excess pounds. My goal is to lose a total of 45 lbs. over 1-2 years in a healthy way and include more natural whole foods in the process.

I'm looking for a few accountability buddies and would be happy to encourage others and help them be accountable too.

Hi I'm Pippa. I'm 27 and I have 23 lbs to lose. I've been on Sparkpeople before and I had great success, but obviously wasn't consistent with it. I'm looking to get into clean eating, but I know that I a) can't do it alone and b) I can't do it all at once. I'm hoping to build up to it gently and learn from this group. I look forward to talking to all of you and getting to know you all better. Please feel free to come and add me, my Sparkpage is looking a little bare!

Hello everyone. My name is Michelle. I am 43 yrs old & I have 30 pounds to lose. I have started getting serious with exercising lately & I am looking to make some serious changes in my diet. Eating clean appeals to me because it doesn't eliminate an entire food group. I am new to this eating style and could use all the help I can get. I am in a house with a couple of very picky eaters, so this will be an interesting challenge for myself. However, I am so tired of feeling tired all the time, I am ready to start doing things for my self. I look forward to getting to know all of you and learn from you. emoticon

Hi Everyone!

I am new to SP but not new to weight loss. I have been on that merry go round of lose it and gain it for over 5 years. I have some knowledge of what clean eating is but I am constantly searching for more information. I seem to know what to do to lose the weight but have not unlocked the secret (I think it is my lack of intestinal fortitude) to keeping the weight off.

I need support and accountability.....

Every day may not be good but there is something GOOD in every day!

Hi everybody! My name is Meagan. I'm old to Sparkpeople but new to the clean eating concept and learning. Lots of my friends who have successfully lost large amounts of weight did so through whole/clean eating and it's something I'm interested in learning more about.

I am new to SP and thought this would be a good place to start. I am a 52 y/o female, married for 27 years. I recently completed a 6 week challenge at Body and Soul Transformation and lost 20 #. This was all based on clean eating and becoming active again. I had quit smoking and changed jobs - and let me be honest- I got very lazy as well. So the weight kept creeping up and I just ignored it until I realized my clothes sizes were increasing and increasing.
After losing the 20# and keeping up with the healthy lifestyle, I have more energy and am not miserable any longer! I do not want to have health issues as I get into my later years !
I look forward to suggestions and support from the different teams I joined on here.
Good luck to everyone - I am on a quest to lose 10 more # myself !

Hello! My name is Jessi and I started this round of healthy habits with ATS bellydancing and yoga--and slowly started changing my eating habits.

When I started getting into running (I'll always be a student of anthropology, so the book Born to Run by Chris McDougall really hit home for me), I started with minimalist shoes (that I already used for everything from hiking to kayaking), and he mentioned in there how Eric Orton said that "...the diet will come..." whatever THAT means! Then I read Orton's book Cool Impossible, and did the 21-day sugar detox challenge and it really hit home.

Holy sh*t, "they've" really got us hooked on salt and sugar, don't "they?"

Whoever they are...they're making big bucks on processed foods that are expensive in the long run.

And I'll stop my rant before I start, and get back to me and my journey... ;-)

Long story short is I've watched my parents (who are the best parents in the world) eat themselves to pre-diabetics with joint pain and high cholesterol. I don't want that for my kids. I was talking to a lovely lady at a festival one day and she said, "Look at my eyes. The irisis on my sister's eyes are much cleaner and clearer, and that's because my mom was much healthier when she had my sister."

Ever since meeting her, one of my biggest, BIGGEST, motivators to eat healthy and workout is for my future children (if!) I choose to ever have kids.

So I try to eat well...90% of the time. Sometimes it works out. I'm trying to get back into the groove of tracking again, since it's probably a good idea for everything...track workouts, track calorie intake...change the BC method to see if that's affecting my body...

All steps to get to where I want to be.

Hopefully I didn't scare anyone away! Please feel free to ask questions/offer suggestions! We're here to help each other, right? :-)

~Jessi~

Good Morning!

I have gain 40 pounds this past year, and I don't want it. I've been my husband's caregiver this past year, as he had a stroke on Nov 8, 2013.

I got stuck in stress eating, eating on the fly, fast food, too many sweets and snacks.

On fb I joined the October:Unprocessed challenge and I have been loving the effect on my eating, my cooking, and my life... so I want to do more to keep eating cleaner, unprocessed and healthier.

I love to cook. My husband lost his ability to swallow, so I'm cooking for me...so why not.

Nice to meet you all. -- Cindy emoticon

Hey there. IDK if i ever introduced myself on here. I've been away from SP for... I don't even know. A long time.
I have watched my weight creep up over the past few years. I am officially at my highest high.
:(
I really need people who I can chat with and relate to who don't judge me.
I'm a yoga, hoop and belly dance teacher. My life goal is to motivate people (especially women) to live the life they want now at this size, in this body.
But that doesn't mean that I don't want to get my health in order before it's too late!
I'm interested in making some new and active SP friends.
Namaste :)

Hello! I am Jenny and I have been on SP for years. I am married with two daughters, 5 year old and 6 months. I want to set a good example for them and teach them how to be healthy. I recently started the 21 Day Fix Beachbody program which is all about eating right and portion control. Hoping this group will help keep me on track with my eating and give me some new ideas.

Hello, my name is Gwenn. I have been a sparker for a long time. I have just decided to join the Eating Clean band wagon a few weeks ago. My first step was ordering the Eating Clean Cookbook, which I have been really excited about. I made a few recipes last weekend and I've been doing my best to eat clean. I didn't know this group was here, so I'm glad to be here!

Hi!! I'm Shelly and I just rejoined Spark! I had an account a long time ago but didn't utilize it like I should've! I'm an 8th grade teacher and have about 30 pounds to lose. I'm trying not to focus on the scale too much... I just want to feel good and healthy!! I tend to do well for awhile and then once I have a hiccup it goes downhill from there..I love how Spark is community based and I look forward to interacting with all of you, keeping each other on track, and exchanging advice :)

Hello and happy Sunday all! My name is Terrie, I'm not really new to SparkPeople, but I've been gone for quite awhile. I hope I can make it work this time because starting over, and over, and over again is getting exhausting! For health and happiness reasons I need to make some serious changes in my life.

I've spent the weekend setting up my account and page, cleaning out my fridge and pantry, as well as planning my meals and workouts for this week. I'm looking forward to my workouts tomorrow and I'm definitely feeling prepared and ready to get started! Today I'm cleaning and prepping my workout room, as well, I really want to start a journal with some very clear and decisive goals.

I'm looking forward to the help and support of this team!

I'm Gill, living in the UK. I had great success eating clean a couple of years' ago - went raw vegan and the weight just fell off me, along with a great upsurge in energy. But............ I slipped back into my old ways.

I've just thrown out a load of wheat-based products, and know I'm better off not eating wheat and sugar. I look forward to joining in with what's going on here in this team!

Hi ya! Been a long time gone so I'm "new again", starting over and trying to repair my broken relationship with food. I don't know much about clean eating, but the principles seem to be in keeping with my goal of eating food that my great-grandmother would recognize as such, as free from nutritionally-destructive processing and harmful additives as possible. I'm looking forward to learning from you all!

Peace to you,
Azriya

And whither then? I cannot say”

Hello Everyone,
I am hoping to gain an understanding about clean eating, I am 59 and am trying to lose at least 12lbs. I workout on a daily basis, yet at times my day can become really hectic and stressful. I teach students who have behavioral disorders and some days I am exhausted when I get home. So I just eat what ever is available at the time, and spend the evening on the sofa.
I am working at cutting out my sugar and cutting down on my intake of bread.
All suggestions will be welcome.
Thank You All for your time.

Hi, I'm Jan ........ and want to know more and learn about healthy clean eating ........ Planning to delve in as I see many things I already eat .......... I understand you typically eat more meals ........ that are lighter? instead of 3 square meals .......... and since I tend to have hypoglycemia ........... I really need to be eating small amounts more frequently w/ protein. Anyone else in this boat? .............. Looking forward.

Hi, I'm Kara. I have been married for 3 years and have a 13 month old son. After my son came along I had problems with my Gallbladder and stones so it was removed. Now, I am having digestion problems. The Gastro Doctor says it looks like IBS. We have done all the tests so this is what we are left with. Joy... After looking into diet changes to control my symptoms I think eating clean might help me. I am reading "The Quick & Clean Diet: Lose the Weight, Feel Great, and Stay Lean for Life" by Dari Alexander and so far I am interested.

It will be hard to get my husband on board since he loves his chips and pop, although he does want to do a juice cleanse.

I am slowly eating cleaner while taking out more and more processed foods. Any help or guidance would be great!

Hi Gang!!

I recently read a few articles about clean eating and found myself intrigued. I have fibromyalgia and have already discovered that lowering my carb intake makes a big difference in my pain.

I am looking forward to eating cleaner, but I have no idea where to start. Input and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I am a mom of 2, and have been married for 12 years.

Thanks,

Hattie

Hi Babez_007,
I am in the same situation. I have had 2 cancer bouts in the last 5 years with up and down weight with treaments. The hardest part is being told to eat anything you can to keep your weight on then getting to the point you have to start eating more responsibly again.
Welcome to the team and best of luck on your journey.

Hi team!
My name is Vanessa and I'm a full time graduate student. The cleaner I eat, the better I feel, but with time crunch it isn't always easy to plan ahead. I got married last summer and my husband is one of those people who can eat whatever he wants and stay the same size, so it's been a bit of a challenge to get him on board. Looking forward to learning more about clean eating and tips for making a household change.

Because I'm worth it!

Hi everyone!

Done spark in the past with good results and its time to get back on the horse after fighting cancer twice in the past 4 years and having the weight yo- yo with treatments. I have done clean eating before and loved it, but always seem to fall into old habits!

Look forward to meeting you all :)

Hi, my name is Liz. I'm hoping to learn more about eating clean. I have been doing the Shred Revolution diet for the past several weeks and that is basically eating clean but the author doesn't really teach about eating clean. He just gives diet schedules. I'm getting tired of the same foods and am looking for alternatives and learning why's and how's.

I have always been a Slow food foodie, making most things from scratch, slowly heading in the clean food direction we will be checking out some of these things. Owned and ran a Health food Store back in the day, and have kept current but not as experimental with the alternate grains and seeds.

Hope to learn from all of you

Welcome, I am in the same boat sorta LOL.
We cook alot from scratch but if it does not have the correct texture, .....I cannot substitute sugar (Stevia) or Spelt for flour all that I cook some of mine seperate.

Congrats on your loss that is great!

Hi, I'm Sandra. I have been eating clean for about a year...at least, cleaner. We gave up eating out over a year ago and have slowly embraced the from scratch cooking style. I have lost 50 pounds but seem to be growing stagnate. I know we could do better, hence why I am here... To Learn.
My family has embraced clean living, except my husband. He think he is starving and has nothing to eat..which means, there is nothing for me to eat, unless I make it? Yep! I need tips on how to have ready to eat food for the munchies, or the times I am work leaving the family with nothing to eat. Ah hem.

Every journey begins with one step,
every pound lost begins with a calorie burned.

Hi, I'm Tracy and new to clean eating. My daughter and myself are enjoying it very much. My son however ( who lives on processed foods) is not happy. He had a friend over after I went to the store. He looked at the fruit and seen there were no chips in the cabinet and told his friend there was nothing to eat. This will definately be a challege.
