Good morning. I'm new to this group and 2 days back into Sparkpeople after, oh, a 3 year absence. I'm feeling very committed today and looking forward to having a team to connect with. I've been focused on "clean eating" for a couple years now and love to cook and explore recipes. And then suddenly I feel like I'll scream if I see another bowl of quinoa. And then that passes...

I'm 57, about to become an empty-nester, and love to swim, walk, do yoga, and go to Barre classes. I have 20-25 lbs to lose to feel more ease in my body. Most of me (ha!) knows that is possible!

thanks so much for being out there.

I am new to this group. I have been on healthier eating habits for the last 15 years. My husband and I are eating more organics than we have before. We cook most of our meals from scratch.

I'm new. I try to eat clean, lots of organic foods. I'm vegan but sometimes fall into the trap of eating Oreos emoticon or potato chips. This is my greatest weakness. I have congestive heart failure and I need to eat as healthy as possible.

Hello, EVERYONE. Just joined. Read about your team that was listed in an article I was reading. on the website. I joined SparkPeople and started learning to use a computer a year ago. Stll get lost on both of them but am better. Started to change to organic and simpler foods about 10 years ago. Now, about 3/4 to being complete in food intake.
Have struggled with weight since thirties. Am down to 193 but ABIT yet to go. In March had two surgeries so for a bit more am limited mobilies. However, it has given me time to focus more on my food being clean. Staying with family so have my own food brought and prepared.
Until more cuts are made, I work with DEVELOPmental disABILITIES people. Am a Christian, looooove flowers and gardening, and reading.
It is going to be very nice to learn and ,hopefully, have something to share among you all.

Good Morning and Happy Friday! My name is Virginia and I am new to this group. I am also new to the message boards in general so if I am posting this incorrectly you know why and I ask that you are kind with your corrections.

I have been on a journey my whole life. Growing up there was never an emphasis on balanced eating and exercise. I was always overweight for my age and my highest weight was 220lbs.
I am a habitual WW. I have been on the program 4 different times. My most successful weight loss was in 2010 when I went from 200lbs to 155. I was able to maintain this until 2012 and since then crept back up to 195.

Since Feb I have re-enlisted as a WW, following their online program and have been what I would call successful. I attribute my success to following their Simply Filling method which is focused on eating whole grains, lean meats, fruit and vegetables. I am not a fan of the "Lite" foods using artificial sweetener and am troubled with how low fat versions of food have so many additional things added.
I am looking forward to meeting new people and sharing good food alternatives that will allow me to continue on my weight loss journey while eating clean!

Thanks for having me!
Virginia

I'm not new to the idea but definitely new to making this change. Right now I am dependent often on what people feed me. I can determine more what snacks and breakfasts/sometimes lunches I eat. Biggest downfall: sugar! I love soda. Drink it every day. And yes I know how bad it is for me! As are many things we eat, drink, etc. But I want to make this change. I'm headed in a new direction.

It's a new year (halfway through lol) and a new me emerging! Watch me work!!

Hi! I'm new again. I joined about a year ago and just dropped out and gained a good bit of weight in the process. I'm back. I've been eating as clean as possible on my budget, and I've lost 3 pounds in two weeks. I look forward to meeting new friends, making new recipes, and becoming a healthier me

Hi. I'm Hannah, and am looking forward to being a member of this team and being consistent with eating clean. I recently took a 90 day Get Fit program that included focus on nutrition, exercise and stress management. I've tried eating clean before, but kept falling back into old patterns. Following this program and eating cleanly, I could tell the positive difference in how my body felt. Yesterday I totally didn't and can feel the negative consequences... So it's time to eat clean consistently!

I'm Debbie and I just found this group. Eating clean has been a work in progress for me for a number of years. I've recommitted to it recently and have been cooking lots of tasty food using Skinnytaste.com recipes. I wanted to join a group with similar goals for support and ideas.

Hi, I'm new to this team. I follow the "Eat to Live" plan by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. My goal is to avoid processed food and try to eat as clean as possible.

I cook big pots of soup and save it in mason jars to use throughout the week. That's my "fast food". lol It's easy to grab and gives me a good variety.

I need the inspiration from this team, and look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Hi, I have been on a quest to eat clean for many years. I lost almost 60lbs back in 2010 just eating fresh fruits and veggies. I also bike a ton. I am currently on my last 4.5 months, holy cow, of service for Peace Corps Jamaica. I will be returning stateside in early June to the Sacramento area of California. I find that eating clean helps me to feel more energized and my body feel better.

I currently walk about 5.5 miles or more a day and I am obsessed with my Fitbit, crazy how the numbers motivate me. I used to struggle with getting my protein for the day as a vegetarian, or when I did my macronutrient balance was out of whack! In the last 8 months I have allowed the Spark nutrition tracker to set up a meal plan and that has helped tremendously. I then joined a meal planner webpage for a month to see the benefit. If it had been a full planning site it would have likely been much more beneficial, but it literally was only dinners. I do not recommend this as it does not integrate well.

I am looking forward to taking the things I have learned in Jamaica back home with me, but I was saddened that the Jamaican diet is not as clean as I anticipated, unless you eat like a Rasta, which is very strict! I hope to incorporate any new information I learn in this group with my current knowledge and expand myself even more.

Hi, I've been cleaning up my diet for past year and a half. Still working on it. I eat very little processed or packages food. No gluten, dairy, or msg for health reasons. I try to eat tons of fruits and vegetables but I do still eat meat. Turkey, fish, and eggs are my primary proteins. I do eat lots of legumes and enjoy meatless meals.

Hi! My name is Irina (Ira). I'm from Russia and we aren't used to eat a lot of veggies here. So if you eat about two cucumber-tomato salats per week, you probably eat much more veggies than most of the people around you in month:D I try to eat 1 cucumber per day... and it's great already!)
I am a fan of meat (beef and chicken) and like to cook healthy meals. But my dishes are unvired and I am looking for new recipes and ideas.

Hi everyone! I'm Katie and new to eating clean. I got the idea from a friend who has lost weight and feels much better after Whole30 and other changes in diet over the past 2 years. I would love any advice/recipes. Right now I'm having toruble with breakfast ideas.. I've been doing an egg with veggies and a Morningstar sausage.. I know the MS isn't "clean" but I'm a vegetarian so will need to let go of some things slowly. Hope everyone is having a great day!! emoticon

New to the group! I was inspired to eat real foods a number of years ago when I read a book called In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a household where my parents valued cooking food at home from scratch and having family dinners, so the idea that real, unprocessed, "clean" foods are the way to go was not a far stretch in my line of thinking.

I'm looking forward to seeing how others interpret and incorporate this idea of clean eating into their lifestyles', as well as share how it has effected mine.

I've lost about 60lbs in my efforts to live a healthier lifestyle, and am looking to continuing those efforts and seeing what my body is capable of!

Hello!
I'm new to the team. I am just starting the "clean eating" lifestyle. I picked up a magazine of Clean Eating and was immediately trilled to find a way to eat, lose weight, increase my health without having to eat grains, which I am allergic to. Wheat is especially problematic for me. But veggies, fruit, and proteins are just wonderful.

I also have issues when eating too much bad fat, so I stay as far from saturated and trans fat as possible.

Looking to relaunch my weight loss and healthy way of living. I've been stuck where I am for a couple of years and want to lose another 50 pounds, if I can. Not sure how far down I can go, but will be waiting to get there to find out.

I found this great resource [Rich Food, Poor Food] https://www.caltonnutrition.com/rich

on my favorite podcast [The Health Bridge] healthbridgeshow.com/

While I prefer to cook from scratch and use whole foods, this is a good way to discover the best picks in the grocery store - especially for those who are transitioning to clean eating.

I did some reading years back on the food industry. It is fairly appalling. You might want to check out Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and the Omnivore's Dilemma.

I'm in a stage where I just want to eat real food. If you can't pronounce it, don't eat it.

I am reading Joanna Blythman's "Swallow This" which is a real eye opener about the food industry. I've ordered another of her book's called "What to Eat" and have read the intro on the Amazon "look inside" feature. I'm realising I need a total overhaul of what I thought was a reasonably healthy diet. I am going to tackle this one step at a time! I've joined about 10 teams to do with clean eating, etc as I didn't know which one to pick! Looking forward to getting to know you all! :-)

Some of us make choices based on the "cleanest" things available for our lifestyle, budget and goals. Many people will disagree with you that oil and meat are summarily bad for you. I believe that healthy fats, in moderation, are great for you. I use ghee, butter, all sorts of nut oils.... I ordered an entire cow from a coworker/rancher that I know was grass fed and never given hormones and antibiotics. My beef is probably cleaner than most people's veg drawer. I bake my own bread with artisan flour milled in the US and unbleached. I use my own sourdough starter to make that happen.

I am new here, but I think the goal for everyone here is to share their "clean eating" experience. I do tend to eat a lot more meatless meals now, and that's ok too. Clean eating, however, is not vegan (necessarily).

Hey everyone! I'm Heather and I've been eating clean now for about a month. I was in Europe for 5 years and things were really difficult to adjust to back in the USA. Wow, do we eat crap or what? My busy life and hectic schedule led to really bad habits and about a 20 pound weight gain in a year. So, in mid-July, when none of my clothes fit, I decided to do something about it.

I started with a 2 week clean eating challenge put out by buzzfeed.

www.buzzfeed.com/christinebyrne/clea
n-
eating-2015

Then I took a "break" for less than a week and am now on my second round

www.buzzfeed.com/christinebyrne/clea
n-
eating-challenge

These plans take A LOT OF TIME and cost A LOT OF MONEY. So, after next week is over, I'll be experimenting with my own thing, including meal planning and recipes.

I was down 5 pounds the first two weeks. I will complete another 2 weeks this weekend and see what I get on Monday. I just wanna eat well, fit in my clothes and incorporate exercise in my life again.

I look forward to "meeting" you all.

Hi there! I'm Hana and always thought I was eating healthy (except for the occasional fast food and sweet treats). Having been living & eating in a more 'primal' way the past few months, I've learned that a lot of what I thought was good for me was not-so-much. I'm glad to be part of a team that (hopefully) won't glorify eating low-fat/low-calorie fake foods or high-sugar 'treats' "in moderation". I am on a quest for good health, not just weightloss, and I want all my SparkFriends to find that same success too!

Hi All,
I've been working at clean eating for some time now. I've come a long way over the years and am at a point where I eat clean most of the time and occasionally fall back into the processed food world. Clean eating had done a lot for me health wise, especially with my cholesterol. Numbers I couldn;t budge for years (unless on medication) are now normal because of the way I eat. I've also lost 50 lbs through clean eating and looking to lose another 50. Always interested in like minded folks and perhaps gather a few new recipe ideas.

Hey everyone I'm new here. I've dabbled in cooking as processed free as I can for a little while now. As of right now, I haven't cooked anything i about a month. I have a 2 1/2 yr old and a 4 1/2 month old so it's been a little difficult to find time for all of the cooking, so I have been taking a little break. I have decided that enough is enough and would like to finally have a healthy lifestyle and get to a healthy weight. I did sparkpeople several years ago, but lacked the key ingredient: discipline. A month ago when I was eating clean, I felt better about myself and when I went back to processed eating, my digestion was not happy with me. So here I am ready to finally combine the two of losing weight and eating clean. With your help and encouragement, I know I can do it! emoticon

I admire your conviction. Would you mind sharing what a day of eating this way looks like?

I'm trying to live a healthier, cleaner lifestyle....I'm trying to eat foods that are non GMO and I've been following people against Monsanto...on facebook...after watching several documentaries on our foods and how they're made...I want a healthier choice...

Hi Everyone!
It's been awhile since I've been on spark people, and I'm ready to get back "in the game"! I'm excited and a little nervous about it too, my main struggle has been eating right and I'm hoping this group can help me find some ideas (especially with vegetables!! ) :) I'm also hoping I can be supportive for you all too, looking forward to chatting emoticon

Yes, perhaps this is not the kind of team you need for your goals. I do use butter and sugar in small amounts when I bake bread but I don't believe they are "bad" or "unhealth" when used in moderation. If you are looking for a plant-based diet, then perhaps you might try a vegetarian team forum.

Good luck!

thank you, Tallyfl.....this is what i am trying to do, too....but i guess my confusion is in what i see people eating here........for instance, bread.........the flour is processed, and usually in bread-making butter or oil is used, sometimes sugar, all of which are unhealthy....certainly all meats, including fish, poultry, and eggs are unhealthy if they are bought from traditional sources, like your local supermarket becuz of what they are fed...also becuz of what they do to our hearts, etc....have your read T. Colin Campbell's "the China Study" or any of Dr. Michael Greger's articles? and animal milks have all sorts of bad effects.....i guess the version of unprocessed eating that i see here is not what i am looking for....i am looking for WFPB, unprocessed..... i guess....(whole foods, plant-based)..thank you for your time and explanation...i guess i should look elsewhere.....

I can only speak for myself so it is not an "official" definition by any means but it means eating "whole" foods (fresh or frozen fruits and veggies, whole grains, fish, poultry and lean meats). It means avoiding processed foods...all the pre-packaged carbs, meals, etc. that are sold in the stores.

I want to get away from "chemical cuisine" where I can't pronounce the ingredients and have no idea what they are, what they are for and what they might do to my body. I make my own marinades, bake my own bread from scratch, make my own soups from scratch and have several whole grain side dishes that have only natural ingredients.

It means eating like I did as a child in the 50s before "convenience" took over the marketplace! Eating clean, for me, is similar to "slow-food".

Hi,
New to this team, on a journey to eating clean & natural since January of this year. I love fresh vegetables, salads, healthy sandwiches, soups, pies & stir fries out of organic & nutritional ingredients. I don't have much time to cook but I am trying to do it more & to plan meals. Just started blogging about some other goals in my life but I want to give some more attention to my eating habits. If you have similar goals, lets be friends & share ideas & achievements together!

I'm also new to this team. I would very much to eat clean all the time but life does get in the way...particularly while still in the workforce. It's just not always possible to cook from scratch and avoid the boxes!

Eating clean is a goal that I am working towards and hope to embrace fully once I retire.

Eliza

Hi everyone!

I ate clean for a big chunk of last year and felt completely AMAZING!

Unfortunately I fell off the wagon a few months ago and am suffering for it now.

Hoping to get right back into it and feel all the benefits again.

Hello, I'm fairly new to clean eating, I love how great I feel without all those refined sugars and over processed foods. I hope to gain motivation to keep it up, I have found so far that cutting out coffee (which was the hardest thing), alcohol, and lots of carbs make me feel amazing. Unfortunately my husband is italian and he loves his pasta so that's a challenge for me, if anyone has some alternatives or suggestions I'm open!
