Hello! My name is Jessi and I started this round of healthy habits with ATS bellydancing and yoga--and slowly started changing my eating habits.

When I started getting into running (I'll always be a student of anthropology, so the book Born to Run by Chris McDougall really hit home for me), I started with minimalist shoes (that I already used for everything from hiking to kayaking), and he mentioned in there how Eric Orton said that "...the diet will come..." whatever THAT means! Then I read Orton's book Cool Impossible, and did the 21-day sugar detox challenge and it really hit home.

Holy sh*t, "they've" really got us hooked on salt and sugar, don't "they?"

Whoever they are...they're making big bucks on processed foods that are expensive in the long run.

And I'll stop my rant before I start, and get back to me and my journey... ;-)

Long story short is I've watched my parents (who are the best parents in the world) eat themselves to pre-diabetics with joint pain and high cholesterol. I don't want that for my kids. I was talking to a lovely lady at a festival one day and she said, "Look at my eyes. The irisis on my sister's eyes are much cleaner and clearer, and that's because my mom was much healthier when she had my sister."

Ever since meeting her, one of my biggest, BIGGEST, motivators to eat healthy and workout is for my future children (if!) I choose to ever have kids.

So I try to eat well...90% of the time. Sometimes it works out. I'm trying to get back into the groove of tracking again, since it's probably a good idea for everything...track workouts, track calorie intake...change the BC method to see if that's affecting my body...

All steps to get to where I want to be.

Hopefully I didn't scare anyone away! Please feel free to ask questions/offer suggestions! We're here to help each other, right? :-)

~Jessi~

Good Morning!

I have gain 40 pounds this past year, and I don't want it. I've been my husband's caregiver this past year, as he had a stroke on Nov 8, 2013.

I got stuck in stress eating, eating on the fly, fast food, too many sweets and snacks.

On fb I joined the October:Unprocessed challenge and I have been loving the effect on my eating, my cooking, and my life... so I want to do more to keep eating cleaner, unprocessed and healthier.

I love to cook. My husband lost his ability to swallow, so I'm cooking for me...so why not.

Nice to meet you all. -- Cindy emoticon

Hey there. IDK if i ever introduced myself on here. I've been away from SP for... I don't even know. A long time.
I have watched my weight creep up over the past few years. I am officially at my highest high.
:(
I really need people who I can chat with and relate to who don't judge me.
I'm a yoga, hoop and belly dance teacher. My life goal is to motivate people (especially women) to live the life they want now at this size, in this body.
But that doesn't mean that I don't want to get my health in order before it's too late!
I'm interested in making some new and active SP friends.
Namaste :)

Hello! I am Jenny and I have been on SP for years. I am married with two daughters, 5 year old and 6 months. I want to set a good example for them and teach them how to be healthy. I recently started the 21 Day Fix Beachbody program which is all about eating right and portion control. Hoping this group will help keep me on track with my eating and give me some new ideas.

Hello, my name is Gwenn. I have been a sparker for a long time. I have just decided to join the Eating Clean band wagon a few weeks ago. My first step was ordering the Eating Clean Cookbook, which I have been really excited about. I made a few recipes last weekend and I've been doing my best to eat clean. I didn't know this group was here, so I'm glad to be here!

Hi!! I'm Shelly and I just rejoined Spark! I had an account a long time ago but didn't utilize it like I should've! I'm an 8th grade teacher and have about 30 pounds to lose. I'm trying not to focus on the scale too much... I just want to feel good and healthy!! I tend to do well for awhile and then once I have a hiccup it goes downhill from there..I love how Spark is community based and I look forward to interacting with all of you, keeping each other on track, and exchanging advice :)

Just found this team to join thanks to a fellow sparkfriend who is also on this team. I try to eat real foods to avoid chemicals and additives even if that means making stuff homemade.

Hello and happy Sunday all! My name is Terrie, I'm not really new to SparkPeople, but I've been gone for quite awhile. I hope I can make it work this time because starting over, and over, and over again is getting exhausting! For health and happiness reasons I need to make some serious changes in my life.

I've spent the weekend setting up my account and page, cleaning out my fridge and pantry, as well as planning my meals and workouts for this week. I'm looking forward to my workouts tomorrow and I'm definitely feeling prepared and ready to get started! Today I'm cleaning and prepping my workout room, as well, I really want to start a journal with some very clear and decisive goals.

I'm looking forward to the help and support of this team!

Never forget why you started! Imagine yourself six months from now! Don't Stop! It's going to be sooo worth it! You're Worth It!

I'm Gill, living in the UK. I had great success eating clean a couple of years' ago - went raw vegan and the weight just fell off me, along with a great upsurge in energy. But............ I slipped back into my old ways.

I've just thrown out a load of wheat-based products, and know I'm better off not eating wheat and sugar. I look forward to joining in with what's going on here in this team!

Hi ya! Been a long time gone so I'm "new again", starting over and trying to repair my broken relationship with food. I don't know much about clean eating, but the principles seem to be in keeping with my goal of eating food that my great-grandmother would recognize as such, as free from nutritionally-destructive processing and harmful additives as possible. I'm looking forward to learning from you all!

Peace to you,
Azriya

Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say”

Hello Everyone,
I am hoping to gain an understanding about clean eating, I am 59 and am trying to lose at least 12lbs. I workout on a daily basis, yet at times my day can become really hectic and stressful. I teach students who have behavioral disorders and some days I am exhausted when I get home. So I just eat what ever is available at the time, and spend the evening on the sofa.
I am working at cutting out my sugar and cutting down on my intake of bread.
All suggestions will be welcome.
Thank You All for your time.

Hi, I'm Jan ........ and want to know more and learn about healthy clean eating ........ Planning to delve in as I see many things I already eat .......... I understand you typically eat more meals ........ that are lighter? instead of 3 square meals .......... and since I tend to have hypoglycemia ........... I really need to be eating small amounts more frequently w/ protein. Anyone else in this boat? .............. Looking forward.

Hi, I'm Kara. I have been married for 3 years and have a 13 month old son. After my son came along I had problems with my Gallbladder and stones so it was removed. Now, I am having digestion problems. The Gastro Doctor says it looks like IBS. We have done all the tests so this is what we are left with. Joy... After looking into diet changes to control my symptoms I think eating clean might help me. I am reading "The Quick & Clean Diet: Lose the Weight, Feel Great, and Stay Lean for Life" by Dari Alexander and so far I am interested.

It will be hard to get my husband on board since he loves his chips and pop, although he does want to do a juice cleanse.

I am slowly eating cleaner while taking out more and more processed foods. Any help or guidance would be great!

Hi Gang!!

I recently read a few articles about clean eating and found myself intrigued. I have fibromyalgia and have already discovered that lowering my carb intake makes a big difference in my pain.

I am looking forward to eating cleaner, but I have no idea where to start. Input and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I am a mom of 2, and have been married for 12 years.

Thanks,

Hattie

Hi Babez_007,
I am in the same situation. I have had 2 cancer bouts in the last 5 years with up and down weight with treaments. The hardest part is being told to eat anything you can to keep your weight on then getting to the point you have to start eating more responsibly again.
Welcome to the team and best of luck on your journey.

Hi team!
My name is Vanessa and I'm a full time graduate student. The cleaner I eat, the better I feel, but with time crunch it isn't always easy to plan ahead. I got married last summer and my husband is one of those people who can eat whatever he wants and stay the same size, so it's been a bit of a challenge to get him on board. Looking forward to learning more about clean eating and tips for making a household change.

Hi everyone!

Done spark in the past with good results and its time to get back on the horse after fighting cancer twice in the past 4 years and having the weight yo- yo with treatments. I have done clean eating before and loved it, but always seem to fall into old habits!

Hi, my name is Liz. I'm hoping to learn more about eating clean. I have been doing the Shred Revolution diet for the past several weeks and that is basically eating clean but the author doesn't really teach about eating clean. He just gives diet schedules. I'm getting tired of the same foods and am looking for alternatives and learning why's and how's.

I have always been a Slow food foodie, making most things from scratch, slowly heading in the clean food direction we will be checking out some of these things. Owned and ran a Health food Store back in the day, and have kept current but not as experimental with the alternate grains and seeds.

Hope to learn from all of you

Hi, I'm Sandra. I have been eating clean for about a year...at least, cleaner. We gave up eating out over a year ago and have slowly embraced the from scratch cooking style. I have lost 50 pounds but seem to be growing stagnate. I know we could do better, hence why I am here... To Learn.
My family has embraced clean living, except my husband. He think he is starving and has nothing to eat..which means, there is nothing for me to eat, unless I make it? Yep! I need tips on how to have ready to eat food for the munchies, or the times I am work leaving the family with nothing to eat. Ah hem.

Every journey begins with one step,
every pound lost begins with a calorie burned.

Hi, I'm Tracy and new to clean eating. My daughter and myself are enjoying it very much. My son however ( who lives on processed foods) is not happy. He had a friend over after I went to the store. He looked at the fruit and seen there were no chips in the cabinet and told his friend there was nothing to eat. This will definately be a challege.

My name is Erin =) I'm a 28 year old mother of three. I love the idea of clean eating, but it's overwhelming. My biggest problem is that I have a hard time cooking. I am one of "those" people lol.. We eat a lot of pre-packaged meals and eat out way more than we should. I do buy lots of fruit and veggies for the family so there's a start, right? I am detoxing myself from sugar. Have lost 7 lbs in the last couple days (which is AWESOME!) However, I have had a headache and not a lot of energy. Hoping I will feel better in the next couple of days. I think the biggest problem I am going to have is that everything tastes so bland! Trying to make chicken without using certain seasonings / marinades ect... Looking forward to learning from each of you and hopefully learning a thing or two about cooking clean healthy meals =)

My name is Christina, my weight has been yo-yoing for a while, making me really depressed when the scales don't budge or go the wrong way. I am looking to change my overall eating regime.

Hi all, my name is Jessica and I am currently undergoing a sugar detox (easier than I thought it would be) my over all goals is to eventually eat only healthy good for me foods and teach my kids the same thing. I know that there is so much info out there about foods and what we should/should not eat. I have been studying nutrition for a while now and have only recently come to the conclusion that I have to count calories along with eating healthy foods. I look forward to learning more and finding new ways to eat healthier more realistic portions.

Hi, Wendy is my name and I am looking to eat cleaner than I have been and to understand more about eating clean. I think I've been doing it for a while but I'm sure I could be better.

Hello, Rue here, I've been eating clean for a couple of years now. However, like anything else I have my ups and downs. I figured joining this group would help me be more accountable, and hopefully have more ups and less downs.

Hello, My name is Cheri. I have been eating clean since Jan 9th and feel much better for it. I was a sugar addict and could stick with calorie counting only so long then would binge and gain the weight back. So far I have been consistently losing at a steady pace and I have been eating a tsp of raw unpasteurized honey each night before bed...helps my sweet cravings and helps me sleep much better. So I just got back on spark to log weight and saw this team...which is exciting. I need new recipes and friends who share the same interest.

Hello everyone. I have watched my daughter and best friend change their bodies and health over the last few years through clean eating. I always put it off. I didn't want to give up my sugar or soda. But since I have started working a straight night shift I have felt drained of energy. I decided I could put it off no longer. I always thought I couldn't start unless I did it perfectly. On January 26,2014 I just jumped in. Cleaned home of all unclean food and drink. A week ago today clean eating began. It is not perfect, but practice makes easier. I have more energy now that the headaches are gone. The headaches lasted 3 days, almost gave in to my soda. I feel better not weighed down. This morning scale showed very close to 8lbs gone and I went to Winter Jam last night and it was okay (took my food with me). I am hoping this team can keep me motivated to change to this new lifestyle.

ONE DAY AT A TIME

God bless you all,
Molly

Hi! I suppose I've been eating mostly clean for a while now; I definitely don't eat processed foods and I have happily been off sugar for a month (I'm planning on never going back!). I'm 25 and I've found a lot of motivation in the form of eating to prevent/dissuade from getting sick/cancer down the line. I wish you all the best on our journey and if anyone's looking for a spark buddy I'm pretty available! Peace =]

Hi everyone - I'm a young mom to one fantastic little boy! I'm not entirely new to the idea of clean eating but I in process of putting it into practice :) I'm taking it slow, and really learning what's what and cutting things out along the way. I wanted to join this group to get support, ideas, and helpful information!

I am not a beginner to the concepts of clean eating, but am looking to put into practice what I have been hearing and learning for years. Looking for support, ideas, and friends to share my path with!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the team but not SP although I really didn't avail myself of all SP had to offer when I first joined. I've committed to start again with my husband also fully on board this time with me. Clean eating is going to be a huge part of our success and I'm already noticing more energy and an improved mood which plays a big part in my ability to stay on a healthy plan and remain motivated! emoticon

Hi, I'm new to spark people as of 1/1/14, and new to this group as of today. I am in my 40's and have over 100 lbs to lose. I am enjoying this new idea of eating clean, consistently. I know if I change my life style I'll reach my goal. I'm giving myself the recommended 13 months to hit my goal this time, instead of rushing and failing. I have a dog I hope to walk once weather gets warmer. I am working out 4 days a week at the school gym. I also returned to college to get a degree in pre-law. Hoping this group will keep inspiring healthy clean eating consistently!!! emoticon Bri

Hello, I'm Rachel, an almost 35 year old mother of three lovely children and married for almost 14 years. We are working on making healthier choices as a family. Both for our own health and the health of the planet. I am new to the team but not SP. One of my current goals is to be more active here on SP. I'm looking forward to getting to know team members and exchanging ideas. emoticon

Hi, I'm Audrey.
I'm new to this team but not new on SP.
I live in South Australia and am trying hard to eat clean. I do well while I'm on holidays and during the summer, but struggle with work days and when the weather gets colder.

Height 163cm = 5 foot 4 inches.
Highest weight 81 kilos = 178.6 lb, Dec 2005.
SP Start Weight 8th July 2006 78 kg = 172 lb
HALF WAY 17th September 71.5 kg = 157.6 lb
June 2007 reached original goal 65 kg = 143 lb
July 2007, 62 kilos = 136.7 lb
December 2008 72 kilos = 158.7 pounds.
December 2009 78 kilos = 172 pounds!!! Going the WRONG way!
December 2010 77 kilos = 170 pounds.

Hello. My name is Cynthia and I am new to SparkPeople. I am a former and soon to be current athlete and nutrition enthusiast who has gained many pounds when the perfect storm of live events converged. I ate clean before eating clean was something to do (began back in the early 70's) but over the past 7 or so years I've slowly moved away from eating well and exercising. Time for a change. The scientists tell us it takes 7 years to replace all of your body's cells. My cells are showing it...lol. Am looking forward to learning and contributing here in this forum. emoticon

Hello!! My name is Natasha. I am not new to SparkPeople but haven't been on here for a while. I am trying my hardest to get rid of this weight that I have been carrying around for a few years. My best friend started eating clean about 2 years ago and has had amazing results!! She has tried in the past to give me her plan ..but I tend to start off really well and then the cheese starts to call my name and I am done. I think that before I failed because I really wasn't ready but now I am at a point where I am wanting babies of my own and I know with my medical background that excess weight plays a part in making that dream hard to achieve. SOOO here I am looking for any tips/pointers or ideals that anyone is welling to give to me!! I am all ears :)

My name is Erica. I am not new to SparkPeople but I haven't been online in a really long time. I just recently did a 30 Felling Fit using Arbonne products. They start with clean eating and cutting out caffeine, refined sugar, breads, cheeses, soy, vinegar and focused on eating things that were not processed. I found that I felt better doing it and have noticed how addictive sugar is.

Hi, I'm Cathy. New to the team but not to SP. I've been trying to eat cleaner - growing lots of produce organically in my garden and increasing the amount of organic foods I purchase at the store. Trying to cut back as much as possible on processed foods (hubby has some favorites he always wants, so I'll still be buying those for him) and doing more cooking from scratch again like I used to, but I know these changes take time.

Hi everyone! I'm new (again) to SP and the team. I allowed my routine and good habits to be undermined by some challenges in my life. I'm back on SP and ready to feel like I used to. Clean eating and exercise helped me battle some health problems that are trying to come back! I want to keep my focus and drown out the naysayers! I even changed one of my doctors and feel much more support from them! Here's to a great new year!!! emoticon

Hi! I've been on Spark for several years, but just got more active on it a few weeks ago. I'm maintaining my goal weight, give or take four pounds, and healthy eating has been important since before my weight loss journey... I just ate a bit much of it back then. I'm looking forward to new ideas and inspirations from folks on this team!

Hi! My names Gina. My first time with spark was a success but i did not maintain, so im back again. But this time, ive changed. I started researching real food websites and im seeing all of the terrible chemicals and toxins that are being put in to my body, and i want to change that.
The thing that first got me researching online was my daughter's reaction to yellow 6 (its in CHEETOS), it turns her into a maniac!
So im hoping to change my familys way of life!

Hi, I'm Lucy. I've been on Sparkpeople for quite a while, and have lost 30 kilos (66lbs) through calorie counting, a range of exercise and improved nutrition. I'm very interested in clean eating, cutting out processed food and particularly reduced unnatural sugars.
I hope to learn a lot here!

Hi, I'm Alisha and back on Spark after a couple of years off..unfortunately! I am very interested in eating clean and looking to lose 15 pounds...sounds easy but with my busy life with work travel, a teenage son and hitting the big 4-0 this year, it's harder than it seems. I need help with meal plans and also if anyone has suggestions for traveling and keeping it clean, I would appreciate the help! Thanks!

Hi I'm new!! my name is Melanie and I have been reading a book on clean eating, I have a huge interest in starting to eat cleaner if not completely clean. I eat alot of raw items, however I still love my pasta. I live in AZ, I have been on spark for quite some time and have restarted my weight loss goals.

Hi y'all! So glad that there is a group on here to find support around eating raw, natural foods. I got my start after my doctor told me to watch Forks Over Knives. I eventually found my way to Engine 2 which has some great whole foods recipes I use from time to time. A bit about myself, I'm 43 with 3 teenagers. Yes, I do appreciate all prayers said on my behalf. If I survive teenage-hood it will truly be a miracle! I have a partner of 7 years whom I adore. Both of us are working on changing our lifestyle to be more active and eating cleaner that we have ever done before. And what a difference it has made. My body is slowly beginning to heal itself, not to mention I'm losing weight. It's awesome. Hope to get to know some of you better and be of mutual support and encouragement!

My name is Sarah and I have been clean eating for over 2 weeks...but my son came to visit and I admit I have eaten things I wouldn't normally.I am on disability for fibromyalgia, RA and degenerative disc disease so how I eat affects how I feel in a BIG way. I'm looking forward to sharing ways of eating healthy.

Hello! My name is Dianne and I am new to this group but not to SP. I have tried a lot of different ways to lose weight - but recently I have been following a lower carb plan through Maximized Living and simply eating less processed foods. It has made a tremendous difference in how I feel and the amount of energy I have. I joined this group to get tips on eating healthier foods!

Looking forward to what everyone has to say!

I am a 40-something Mother of three. I am looking to lose weight, but I have finally come to realize that it was important for myself and my family to start eating clean.
I got rid of 'almost' all processed food (and all toxins from my cleaning supplies as well) We have decided to eat organic, locally- produced food and decided to grow a garden in our backyard. My DH is the only one who eats red meat, but we do eat fish.
That being said, I lost 17lbs this month, and I do eat 6 meals a day, every day. I do still go to restaurants, but only 1x per month instead of daily. And when I do it is usually Indian Thai/ Japanese food, which is not too bad for you, in my opinion. :)
My goal is to shop locally at farmer's markets, to slowly wean myself off of meat, and to buy food that is pesticide-free and grown organically. I also wish to buy fresh eggs from vendors who do not inject chemicals in the animals.

Hi my name is Tia i've joined to group to help me come up with meal plans and eat clean. I tend to eat my children's snacks when im lazy and don't want to cook or grab something healthy instead. I'm the biggest i've ever been in my life at 185lbs. My goal is to workout and eat clean to shed these 65lbs to get back to 120lbs. I looking forward to being encouraged and encouraging others as well. :)
