Hello! My name is Sara and I'm new to both SC and SP. I recently moved to SC from Hawaii and am trying to get acclimated to this heat...holy cow is it hot down here in the south! I'm more determined than ever to lose weight and keep it off, but more importantly I want to begin living a healthier lifestyle. I don't need to fit into a certain size to consider myself in shape. I want to eat right and exercise. I've done it before and know it works for me. I just haven't figured out how to stick to that plan yet... :)
I'm happy that I've got a great gal here in SC who motivates me and is so positive. We began walking and running together at the beginning of June and could not be happier about it. I've always been a loner when it comes to exercising, but now I realize it's so much better to have someone there for support. I love it! It's great to have a buddy system.
Let's see...what else. The reason for joining SP? Well, I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 25 back in 2006 and went through the whole kit and caboodle that comes with such a diagnosis (chemo, radiation, surgery). I've had regular check ups since then and so far everything looks good (knock on wood). I did really well the first couple of years out of treatment, but have since fallen into eating whatever, whenever and not exercising. Pre-diagnosis I was fit and healthy (healthy weight, running @ 20miles per week); post diagnosis, not so much. I need to stop taking this body and life for granted (again) and treat it right. It's the only one I've got, and I want to keep it for as long as possible. So with this in mind, I've decided to put aside my bad habits and go back to the good ones I had back in the day. Hopefully by being in this supportive environment I'll be able to stick with it this time!
