Your quitting smoking did not give you high cholestrol. High cholestrol is developed over time and generally runs in your family. You have just now become away of your high cholestrol. Eating better and using Sparks can help lower that cholestrol.

I also have high cholestrol, am trying to stop smoking and not gain weight. My quit date was 2/2/09 so just over a week now. Food tastes so much better when not smoking. I have not been active on Sparks since the holidays and today decided I need to get back to Sparks.

Cold turkey - that has got to be tough. I am doing Chantix and nicotine replacement. All nurses I talked to said use everything available to help with quitting. Kudos to you and keep up the goood work.

Cheryl: I just happened upon your post. Please go up & click on the TEAM name, then find all of our active posts under "Trying Chantix to Quit". We would love to support your break away even if you are not using Chantix. Otherwise, not very many of the other threads are very active on this Team (as you can see by the dates of the last posts).

Look forward to seeing you over in the Chantix Room.

The quitting did not lead to the high cholesterol..the high cholesterol led to the quit smoking! My family has a history of heart problems and high cholesterol and high blood pressure too.

Quitting the smokes was the first step to lowering my cholesterol. Eating healthy and losing weight is the second step of the process.

Remaining at a good weight is the third and last step to the process.

CHERYL

Congratulations! Sorry quitting led to high cholesterol. Have you had your thyroid checked? My freinds that quit smoking turned out to have thyroid problems that went undetected due to smoking. Take a small amount of thyroid med lowered their cholesterol, etc.

Good luck on losing weight and getting healthy.

Hi there, I'm Cheryl and on January 8, 2008 I quit the smokes - cold turkey! I've done it this way before but always went back with a myriad of excuses for doing so. Now that I have high cholesterol something had to give!

I joined Sparks on January 13, 2008 with a dual goal: Lose weight and get healthy!

So far I'm doing ok. I find that I need to change my habits more and more so as not to entice me back to the cigs. Being on here and typing, alot, have helped keep me from sitting in front of the tv and eating and/or smoking!

I really have no desire to go back to the cigs but I certainly don't want to gain that 'stop smoking' weight so here I am!

JACKIE,

Congratulations on not smoking today. Doing both at the same time is difficult. Go easy on yourself. The easy way to quit smoking book recommended deep breathing five times to cope with nicotine withdrawal. Breathe in thru the nose and out thru the mouth. Try eating low calories foods like celery, carrots, take a walk, bath, brush your teeth or do something with your hands.
