Welcome back, Kathleen. The team is here, and can use some renewed blood, but most don't seem to check in often. Maybe you will bring a new spark!

Not really returning, I've been here, and nutritionally stayed well on track untill yesterday (Easter). But fitness wise and sparking I've suffered this past week so now it's time to knuckle down!

lol-- not as much of one as I used to have, although I seem to keep busy most the day and always have things left over! I know it's easy to get hung up here... I've been sick the past week so had lots more time on the computer! Plus I work out of my home currently, so again, more online time.

So looking for more people to return!

Chili, At least you probably have a life. That will keep us from checking in as much as we would like. As for me, I really need to cut back on my time here. Just when I think I am getting through the logging and other stuff quickly, I start to get bogged down with reading what others say and articles and things. And lately the computer has been acting weird (mostly on this site). I really need to get a life.
My only problem with cyber-buddies is they just disappear. When you think you have a connection with someone and invested a lot of time they don't even say bye! (probably due to a computer problem and then real life takes over, but you never know.)

You know, now that I'm all revved up to release toxins and get healthy, and I want to talk about it, and I see how sad it is when hardly anybody is here, and you keep coming back hoping someone has posted, and there's only a couple of us.... I FEEL LIKE SUCH A SCHMUCH for all the times I wasn't here for OTHER people who wanted to talk...and how MUCH I appreciated people like Tara and Paula and RW and Tracy who HAVE been steady-eddies, and kept on...and I am just SO SORRRY I didn't, I wasn't... emoticon

only way I can make up for it is to really commit myself from here on to be a better e-buddy

Welcome back, ThinSparkle!

I've been reading the book, "The Secret," and according to it, we should stop focusing on "losing weight", because by constantly putting it in our mind that we "have to lose weight", our mind wants to abide by our wishes, so makes sure we always have weight to lose. (You have to read the book, I don't explain it very well.)

They say it is better to focus on reaching our perfect weight of ____ (whatever), and believe it will be so, and our brain and body will work toward that goal. Interesting concept. --Tara

The scale is my slave,
I shall never cave,
No matter the measure
Exercise is my pleasure!

Fuel choices are plentiful,
Healthy amounts make me full.
Mindful of tracking --
Meals and snacking.

No thought entertained without consent
Encouraged by Spark, Negatives absent
Knowing the scale will surrender
Visuals galore in my spark reminder.

Wearing a smile now
Wearing a size 8 wow!
No fast food shall entice me
Lack of results will not deter me!

'No matter the time it will take,
My mind is set! Living thin is my fate!

THE SECRET employed. The scale reads 130 now!
Visualizing my future, me taking a bow --
Sparkers cheering
Me smiling!

Hi, Cindy Lou! Glad to see you on the board again. Stop by Words of Wisdom, too!

I'm planning a fall foray in the New England area this September/October, for our 25th wedding anniversary. Trying to lose at least 40 pounds before then. Trying to stay in the Zone. Ever heard about the Zone, by Barry Sears?

Hi everyone,

I am returning again as well. Put on a little and have decided to work at changing my lifestyle again. Need to take a little off before we head to Vegas and drive over to Dallas in September. Want to look great when we celebrate our 30th anniversay! Nice to read the posts from so many friends from the past. I always like to hear about other places and the differences.

well, I am impressed by your poem!
My isues relate to chocolate and cheese. I don't eat fast food- in fact I cook all our food, so it is healthy. However we do eat out a lot with my husband's work- and chocolate is sooo yummy!!
However, what you say is true. Each day of not gaining is a day to be celebrated.
Take care,
Gabriel

I definitely want to come to Australia/New Zealand now! Thank you so much for all that information.

Yes, I know what you mean about Easter. I don't know what has happened--when I was a little girl, it was a big holiday, but now it seems to go by without much ado at all.

I think it has to do with the fact that the government here tries not to impose any one religion on anyone, and our country has so many different belief systems, that Catholics and Christians have backed off from public displays of religion on Easter. There is still a bit of resentment over Christmas trees from non-Christians, but I don't think we'll see them disappearing. We try to separate church and state as much as possible, however.

Oh--did anyone ever see the poem I posted on my Sparkpage, called "Ode to the Scale"? Here it is, in case you haven't seen it:

I stand on the scale,
And again I must frown,
After all that (*^%!+ work,
I haven't lost a pound!

My body seems quite stubborn,
Every calorie it hoards,
It seems to take no interest
in burning what it stores.

So how can one win
this struggle to lose?
As I attempt to get thin,
My fat stores are amused.

But every day I do not gain,
Is still a win for me,
And so I struggle and I fight,
to be healthy; to be free,
From this miserable junk-eating traitor
That resides within me!!

And I know that in the end,
I am sure to be the winner,
'Cause no matter how long it takes,
My resolve is to be thinner!

If only I may grow firmer, simpler, quieter, stronger.

The Australian native trees, shrubs, spinifex and plants do not change colour as do those in the northern hemisphere; however in the tropics there are many imported plants that change colour and in the temperate zones there are imported trees that change colour and drop leaves. I remember, though, we took photos of leaves when we were in the northern hemisphere, because of the range and densities of colours in the leaves. It really surprised us! So even when we have the same plant the change in leaf colour is not so great!
The good news is that I've returned to the site today after I noticed your reply!
The not-so-good news is that I've put on more weight- I'm up to 65 kg, which is 141 lbs!
We've had parties within the family- two funerals, Easter, 2x 21sts, an 18th- as well as a variety of other opportunities to eat chocolate.
My Mum gave me a pineapple but everyone else gave me chocolate- ginger chocolate, Lindor balls, etc... Easter is quite a big holiday in Australia- bigger, it seemed to us, than it was it was in the US, when all the shops were open.
Anyway, I have my yoga class tomorrow and it could have been worse.
I'm attending a weekend seminar Fri-Sun and school holidays begin.
It is hot and muggy in Florida.
I love solving sudokus, too! There are lots of sites that provide them but I generally print them out and do the daily newspaper ones.
Take care and thanks for your message,
Gabriel

Thanks for the tour of the country. That certainly makes me want to come visit. When your season changes from summer to fall do you have trees that change color in southern Australia? We never hear much about all that here. The most contact I have from that area of the world is from Sudoku.com.au. That's a neat site that goes around the world, but is based there. I love to read the comments, though I've never posted. Lots of nice people and pictures from there and around the world when you solve the puzzles. (I like to do them to keep my mind working and not thinking of food.)

You know our seasons are inopposition to yours- Our Summer starts in Dec and finishes at the end of Feb. Australia is almost the same size as the US, so where we are is most like California- San Diego area. However we have our desert areas and we have coral reefs on the north-west and eastern coasts, We have rain forests- tropical and temperate. "Up north" is more like Florida, Louisiana.
I can direct you to tourist sites, but I'd just like to say that Australia and New Zealand are wonderful places to visist and/or live. Our countries were joined with South America in the past and there's a great deal of flora that we have in common. Our animals have developed independently and natives are mostly mammals. We have wonderful waterfalls- like UDP Falls where Crocodile Dundee was filmed. My husband and I have swum in that pool beneath the waterfall. Our beaches are the best in the world- sorry, my husband made himself unpopular in the US, by saying so- our sands are soft and white, mostly, though sometimes golden.
Here' s what one of my favourite poets says
"I love a sunburnt country a land of sweeping plains of rugged mountain ranges of droughts and flooding plains"
We do have subway, MacDonalds, Hungry Jacks(Burger King) Pizza Hut, Dominos etc... but we also have fresh food- we grow fruits, veges, meats and they're available from the Markets in various locations around the country as well as at shopping centres.
I was in Albany, two weeks ago and at the market I bought locally grown smoked fish, venison products, lamb, chicken and fruits and veges.
I have spent time in the US and Canada- and I loved it. We walked the canyon- down and up- and slept in the car at Yosemite! Australia produces wines that are not so sweet as your Nappa valley ones- but we have an incredible range of wine growing areas and we produce great wine! lol! We have boutique breweries, (like the Lone Star in Texas!) and there's diverse scenery.
Our daughter has just returned from a trip to NZ for a month- she loves it- but she also loves Comicon! This year she's returning for a second visit!
I don't want to be tedious, so I'll leave it at that but there's many amazing worlds in any land the size of Australia!!!!
I attended a book launch today and enjoyed curried egg sandwiches- something I've not eaten for quite some time!!!
Tomorrow is another day!!

Gabriel,

Good for you, as far as the yoga and walking. Getting our lives uncluttered is a monumental task very much worth attempting--take heart, and just tackle it one step at a time.

Sorry to hear about the funeral. I try to avoid them as much as possible, myself.

I have always wanted to visit Australia. What's the Autumn like there? I grew up in New York, so in the Fall, the leaves changed to bright orange, yellow and gold colors, before browning and falling off the trees. The air was crisp, cool, and invigorating, which I find is not the case for the hot and muggy weather here in Miami. Although yesterday the temperature was down in the 50s in the morning and at night, so I got a slight taste of the weather I miss from up north. In the Fall in NY, we also had bright orange pumpkins everywhere, with scary faces carved in or painted on them for Halloween. It was always my favorite season when I lived up north.

Here in Miami, the seasons are hot, really hot, hot and rainy, and not so hot and rainy. BORING. If you put a pumpkin on your doorstep, it will be rotten in a day or two.

Although I will say from January through March I appreciate not having to shovel my car out of a snow drift early in the morning or scrape ice from the windows to get to work. So, tell me more about your seasons and what I should definitely see when I come visit Australia and/or New Zealand.

If only I may grow firmer, simpler, quieter, stronger.

On the positive side I have attended yoga classes each tuesday- and I have walked a few times, after work. I also uncluttered a few aspects of my life.
I have not altered my reckless way of eating and have put off doing anything- so thank you Aeroflot, for responding to my message! It' caused me to remind myself tomorrow is a new beginning. We had several huge family meals on the weekend- in Australia it's a four day break- and we had a 21st and a Funeral in the family as well.
For us it's Autumn, now, but this time last year I was in the West Indies, in the spring! It was hot and I swam a lot.
Take care and thanks for replying!

Well, guys--I guess we're all doing some Spring Cleaning in our lives. I, too, have re-committed to getting healthier and exercising more. I hate it when I fall off the wagon, but I'm climbing back on again, and it's good to have some dedicated fellow-travelers on the journey!

Of course I remember you, ChilePalm from Tampa, and Gabriel and PMS! I hope you will help me keep motivated, since I have the biggest job to do! I'm having to start all over again and I've gained everything back I lost, but they say (whoever "they" are) that sometimes things have to get worse, before they get better. I'm groveling around here at rock bottom, so I need some help pulling me back up into the driver's seat so I can get control of my life and whip myself and those runaway horses into shape!

If only I may grow firmer, simpler, quieter, stronger.

Good for you, Gabriel! I'm returning too...I've been active on another site, but my heart tugs me back to Sparkpeople... I committed to this lifestyle in October 2007, and have not looked back. I've steadily lost-- a blip on a few weeks, but then right back to it!--- and I am getting reacquainted at Sparkpeople myself! I remember Tara...hope she comes and posts soon, and maybe she remembers me! Chilepalm from Tampa....

I have decided to recommit to the healthy choices I made over two years ago. I was 58 kg when I stopped visiting the site, daily- over a year ago- and now I am 64kg. I promise to take the steps necessary to return to 58kg, as I know I can do it!
I am actually choosing to focus on the positives of this.
